2 trades in the last 2 days and 7 guys on the DL.

Late June I may be going to a game in Anaheim or Phoenix. Maybe.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 18, 2005 -> 12:37 AM) you know im in on that plan. 1 - It starts the arbitration process early. 2 - Would Ozzie actually play him everyday over Dye or Timo? No. 3 - It's his 1st season in AAA. Only 137 AB's there. 4 - Joe Borchard showed what happened when you promote people too early. 5 - K/BB ratio needs improving still. 39/15.
-
The thing is with Dye is this. Brian Anderson will probably be ready at the start of next season. Do they want a guy who's making $5.15 million, or a guy who'd put up pretty much the same sort of numbers give or take @ $300,000 and throw Anderson into the fire?
-
QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ May 17, 2005 -> 11:11 PM) How about Brian Anderson? Drop Timo's useless ass and bring up Brian Anderson...any takers? That ain't going to happen, especially considering Anderson won't be playing everyday. Let him develop down at Charlotte, where's he's doing a pretty good job.
-
Happy B-Day Cerb!!! Hope you have a great 1!!!
-
I remember a piece from a scout saying "I don't care if he's a criminal, he can throw the absolute s*** out of the ball", which is pretty much what the Sox brass thought when they picked up this guy. Hopefully he makes it, because he's got too much talent to waste.
-
Gotta say I've been very impressed with Reynoso this year as well. Maybe there's something to look forward to there with him and Jenks.
-
Well it wasn't going to stay that way forever, and it won't with Garland. Let's just hope he can continue to do the job to stop this little losing streak. On that, the Sox have shown that after their 3 games losing streaks, they can go back on a run, so let's hope they can do it again.

QUOTE(YASNY @ May 17, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) Konerko and Dye have both had success at the major league level where Borchard has not. That's like comparing apples and oranges. And Konerko has shown he can hit very well in 1 half of a season, and not so good in another half. Dye, well we'll just have to wait and see.
-
When the hell do we start worrying about Konerko??
DBAHO replied to Wise Master Buehrle's topic in Pale Hose Talk
How long until Gload is scheduled to come back? Also with Frank coming back, that gives you a possible option, but I don't want to see him fielding at 1B. -
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 17, 2005 -> 06:19 PM) It's pretty sad when we are discussing which player should be ridiculed more between Konerko or Dye. Maggilo Ordonez.

Here's a wildcard if the Bulls don't sign Bell (which by the way isn't a bad idea); Doug Christie

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 17, 2005 -> 01:24 AM) His ERA doesnt change when he gives up someone elses runners who are on base. The guys coming out of the pen after a starter has come out are there to stop the bleeding or to keep the situation from becoming a disaster. Cotts arm designation doesnt matter. He cant get lefties out so whats the point. You can replace him with a righty. I would take Arnie against a lefty over Cotts. Baj at least throws strikes. Munoz's stats down in Charlotte FWIW; 1-3, 5.04 ERA, 8 BB's, 24 K's. And everyone, I'll just say to calm down a bit. This thread has had some real good discussion so far, and I don't want it to get to the stage where it has to be locked.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 17, 2005 -> 01:15 AM) I dont want this guy up when the game is on the line. Last year we jacked off trying to see if this experiment or that would work. Enough already lets get someone who can throw strikes and strand a few runners. Most of the time, at least with Cotts when he's on in the 6th or 7th, at least the Sox can come back for a rally. Quite amazing his ERA hasn't changed this month either, it was down to 2.89 before the Tampa game. See this is what I don't like with all the Cotts bashing. Who are you going to call up to replace Neal Cotts? Jon Adkins? He's struggling starting down at Charlotte. Brandon McCarthy? Don't go there. Arnie Munoz? Still needs more time. Jeff Bajenaru? A righty, and his September stats from last season are still going to hang over him no matter how great he's pitched down in the minors over the past season and a half. Kevin Walker? Puh-lease.
-
QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 17, 2005 -> 01:08 AM) He's switched the homers into singles and doubles. BTW, his career numbers are a 5.78 ERA in 90 innings with 54 walks. Hey at least the Smallball Theory is working right!!!???
-
Comes out on Thursday here. Hopefully I'll be able to find some time during the day when it's not busy to go see it.
-
QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 17, 2005 -> 01:05 AM) He was hard to defend last year when he had a 5.65 ERA over the ENTIRE season. Defend that! He gave up way too many homers for a reliever last season. At least that's one aspect of his pitching thus far that has improved.
-
QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 17, 2005 -> 01:03 AM) My bad, it was against Anaheim where he walked 6 guys in 2.1 innings. We knew we had a stud in the making. Still his AA numbers before that were hard to shy away from. And right now if he had those numbers 2 years later, he wouldn't have been in the majors like he was back then, which is a perfect example of why B-Mac should not be promoted right now.
-
Here's Cotts' page on Baseball Propectus as well Jackie. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/dt/cottsne01.shtml In the Translated Pitching Stats for 2005, 37 BB's, 35 K's, 5.67 ERA, but only 3 HR's given up for the year. Cotts has also had a little bit of bad luck with hits and runs.
-
Terry Ryan and George Steinbrenner.
-
QUOTE(aboz56 @ May 17, 2005 -> 12:52 AM) Andrew, don't you realize that there are no stats that can cover up Kotts's shortcomings. I'm just glad you are sensible enough to not defend this slug. LOL, I'm just asking. He's been getting crucified around here though, and it seems that those who have been sitting on the fence with him, have jumped overboard. But I guess one question I'm going to ask, is if you're going to criticize Neal so much, why not Luis? Why not Shingo? Those guys haven't exaclty set the world on fire either, it's not like Cotts is the only person in our pen who's been sucking it up.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 17, 2005 -> 12:49 AM) Ponson actually had a successful 2003 season, so you can definitely make an argument for him. He was a high fantasy pick in 2004. But yeah, if I were a GM looking for starting pitching, I'd disregard Ponson with the quickness. The Aruba incident probably didn't help his value much either.
-
Anyone got a stat on how many of Neal's pitches have been balls, and how many of them have been strikes?
