ESPN 1000: Freddy Garcia traded to the White Sox
DBAHO replied to Flash Tizzle's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Rotoworld's thoughts on the trade. White Sox acquired RHP Freddy Garcia, catcher Ben Davis and cash from the Mariners for catcher Miguel Olivo, outfielder Jeremy Reed and infielder Mike Morse. Reed for Garcia should have been more than enough. The White Sox are vastly overpaying by giving up their starting catcher, too. This is probably a better package than the Royals got for Carlos Beltran. We doubt Olivo will ever be anything more than an average regular, but he's young, cheap and better than the team's alternatives. Garcia is going to have to continue to pitch like an All-Star in order to come close to justifying the deal. His fantasy value drops slightly now that he's away from Safeco, but at least he should be comfortable in Chicago. His addition should force Felix Diaz back to Triple-A. -

Unless the Pirates are willin to pay a lot of Kendall's salary, we shouldn't trade for him. Other catcher options we could target include Mike Matheny, Brian Schneider, A.J Piersynki, Jose Molina, Charles Johnson, Greg Myers and Johnny Estrada. -
Poor Miggy, I don't blame him. Olivo was too upset after the game to comment, a team spokesman said. "It was one of the hardest conversations I've ever had with a player," Williams said.

Jeremy's Reed's last ever game for the Charlotte Knights.

Thriller ain't gonna Beat It, at least not according to Ozzie, who values his "Veteran Leadership".

Jeremy Reed's Ghost? -
Charles Johnson is definitely available, Colorado is desperately trying to slash payroll. Been hittin well at Coors this season as well. Greg Myers from the Blue Jays could also be an option, as only Roy Halliday, Miguel Batista, Vernon Wells and Ted Lilly are untouchables on that team. Perhaps Robby Hammock from the D-Backs or Brian Schneider from the Expos too.

Last 3 games the Rick Peterson magic has worn off on him. Expect the Barry Zito to the Mets rumors to heat up soon.

Depends how much the Pirates are willing to absorb of his long contract. Hits over .300 though, and would be a perfect #2 hitter for us. -

Wow what a big day, biggest one so far this year easily, beat the Cubs and make the major trade. A lot of you were complaining when is KW goin to make a deal, when are we goin to get another starter yada, yada, yada. Miggy Olivo, I think he is not the stud evey1 think he is. He can't hit RHP pitching very well, and still can't call a game well either. That said, I think he is the perfect type of catcher for Seattle in Safeco Field with his speed. Jeremy Reed, wow now that was a shock. I feel sorry for the guy, he's been injured with his wrists and is only hitting .280 in Charlotte, and his value has dropped. Be hard to see where he plays for Seattle long term though, unless they trade Randy Winn. Ben Davis, well I hope Greg Walker can fix him. He's got a great arm behind the plate and is a switch hitter. Uribe never hit too well in Colorado and Walker did a good job on him, hopefully he can do the same with Davis, and that will be a major boost to this trade. Freddy Garcia, well KW says he can sign him long - term. Is he worth 40 million over 4 years though? I guarantee you the Yankees will be goin afta him in FA if he doesn't resign before then. Of course we'll get the 2 draft picks if he leaves anyways. Also he's a flyball pitcher, which doesn't bode well for him at the Cell, where there's been an average of more than 3 home runs than usual. -
Millwood hasn't been pitching too well this season. I think if they could get a real good CF to replace Marlon Byrd, Millwood would be available. They were after Beltran for a while, but didn't want to giv up Gavin Floyd their stud pitching prospect.

Boss' blowup may spark Yanks to deal The Yankees are continuing their search for starting pitching help, with Freddy Garcia and Russ Ortiz the two top names, but the search may have taken on more urgency yesterday when George Steinbrenner witnessed his team allow nine runs in a loss to the Mets. After the game, Steinbrenner told reporters in a brief interview, "Always need another pitcher," and there are other signs that the Yanks could be intensifying their efforts. An Atlanta Braves scout has been following the Yanks' Double-A team in Trenton for the bulk of the Thunder's recent seven-game home stand, perhaps to eye two of the Yanks' top prospects - catcher Dioner Navarro and infielder Robinson Cano. The Yankees have asked the Braves about Ortiz, a 21-game winner last year, but Atlanta is uncertain if it wants to deal the free-agent-to-be yet. The Yanks have also talked to the Mariners about Garcia, but it's unclear whether the Mariners have interest in the Yankees' prospects - or whether they are interested in making any deals right now. The Mariners have extensively scouted several levels of the Yankee system - including sending former GM Pat Gillick to Trenton. A Phillies scout has been at Thunder games recently, too, perhaps a sign Philadelphia would part with a pitcher such as Kevin Millwood.

Also found this on an article bout Finley, As a 10/5 man, Steve Finley has the right to block any trade, but an associate of Arizona's ageless center fielder says he would be willing to waive it in the right situation. What about a midyear trade to the Marlins? "Sure," the associate said. "He wants to be in a pennant race. But the Marlins don't want to spend the money." Finley is making $7 million in his walk year, but the Diamondbacks might be willing to eat some of his remaining obligation for the right prospects. They are not yet at that point, however. ...

Maybe I can finally catch up to you in our Fantasy Baseball League. Hav fun at Northwestern!

Here are some more possible LH bats who will probably be available at the deadline. Frank Catalanotto could be a real good option for a LH bat, I know beck72 brought him up once before. Only making $2,300,000 this season and can play most outfield spots and 2B as well. Brad Wilkerson from the Expos. Earning $375,000 but not having a real good season numbers wise hitting .239 with 12 HR's. Could be a productive #2 hitter for us though. Daryle Ward from the Pirates. Came out of nowhere for the Pirates this year and is hitting .276 with 10 HR's. Doubt he'll keep it up for the rest of the season though. Larry Bigbie from the Orioles. Orioles are struggling in last in the AL East. Desperate for pitching help, maybe Bigbie could be had. Only making $340,000 this season.

Chris Reitsma could be a possibility, but the Braves gave up two good pitching prospects in Jung Bong and Bubba Nelson so I can't see them trading him. Of course if we trade for Andruw Jones and we go afta Steve Finley, will he accept playing in LF or RF if we trade Carlos or Maggs?

Registration is required for that article.
-
Can you imagine if we would hav signed Otsuka to set up for him too. Shingo and him are havin great seasons.
-
KW seems hellbent on trading for a plus defensive CF after the Carl Everett situation from last year. Drew would be nicer, but there's no room for him unless we trade Maggs or Carlos in our outfield. Steve Finley wants to go to San Diego, and considering they missed out on Carlos Beltran, they'll be very hot after him now.
-
Keepin him in line there Billy the Marlin.
-
You all know me as the man who cannot spell Daubach.
-
Too bad there's no SuperSheep over there. :headshake
-
Unless they don't move Julio Lugo and move B.J Upton into the outfield instead, I don't see em tradin Cruz unless they get an offer they can't refuse. They both K a lot for a #2 hitter as well.
-
Sorry sir. Won't happen again.
-
No to Burnitz. Guy struggles like hell away from Coors Field. Cruz is on fire one week, and can't get a hit the next. I don't think Tampa will trade him either.
