  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 06:48 PM) Ugh. I don't even think the Sox wanted to keep Buehrle. They didn't seem too concerned about him leaving. Why call Mark something like that? I wish he was still in Chicago. Playing the lousy Cubs may turn Miami's season around. Is that series with Washington a wraparound 4 gamer? It's 1-2 vs. Wash over the weekend isn't it? Geez. You have it in for Ozz. I think you protest too much. The only thing I'm "protesting" is that your love for Ozzie goes too far. He's an average manager. So, in your mind, tell me who's fault you think these things are: 1) Making the playoffs one time from 2006-2011 after winning a championship 2) Having poor fundamentals as a team for many years during his tenure 3) Guys who sucked last year are very good this year (Rios, Dunn, Beckham [to an extent], Peavy [to an extent], etc) 4) The Marlins raising their payroll by millions and now are many games out (hint: you can't say Heath Bell if they've been shut out 9 times) 5) Fidel Castro comments Ok, go.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 06:42 PM) I don't know if the Sox have this, but Royals had great fan promotion Friday night. One dollar hot dogs and small drinks. I think they do it every Friday during the summer. I'll take it. Delicious dogs. Guy I was with had four or five. I had 2. Nice to pay 2 bucks instead of 9 for 2 fricking hot dogs. I went to Kauffman in 2007 and 2008, and both times I really enjoyed their pretzels. Do they still have those? They were massive. Also, they weren't too expensive. Typically, pretzels are 4.50+ at stadiums. This one was 3.00, I believe, which is great considering it was also bigger than any other stadium's that I've seen.
  3. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 06:12 PM) Ozzie had a dugout to dugout yelling match today in the 4th inning about pine tar on Bryce Harper's bat. I think Ozzie thought that Harper tried to show him up about it too, saying the kid was unprofessional. Always something. Know what's unprofessional? Continuing to be a clown with the media, showing disrespect to other teams, having his teams be underachievers under him, etc. Don't worry, it's Heath Bell's fault. The Sox have corrected pretty much everything that was a problem for them last year now under Ventura, and they all fall under one category: FUNDAMENTALS. Ozzie is a f***ing joke. Enjoy your warm climate and s***ty team, a**hole. Your team has been shutout 9 times this year. THAT'S HEATH BELL'S FAULT, DAMNIT.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 12:59 PM) You mean you don't like the possibility of facing a healthy Red Sox lineup with Axelrod, Humber, Quintana and possibly someone like Leesman? Hopefully Floyd's ok and we the offense can carry the Sox. Lester, Dubront, Morales, and Cook all suck at home.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 11:26 AM) After than 459 foot homer? Yes, because it was only 451 feet.
  6. Cook's home ERA- 9+ Lester's home ERA- 5.8+ Doubront's home ERA- 5+ Morales' home ERA- 6+ f*** it, win 3/4.
  7. Garza is 4-7 for a losing team, but that's not too bad, but his 4.2+ ERA in the NL is alarming.
  8. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 15, 2012 -> 04:05 PM) 3.5 game lead! This team keeps going on long road trips and continues to gain ground. It's getting to be pretty amazing to watch. Win 4 of the next 7 and call it a roadtrip. Win 5 of the next 7 and be very excited.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 09:40 PM) Peavy vs. Hochevar you'd think advantage White Sox. Not quite tonight. KC remains a tough out when Sox play them. Hochevar seems to own the Sox and seems to be terrible against everyone else. The only guy who really hits him hard is Ramirez, IIRC.
  10. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 03:28 PM) Hope we don't give Forte too much. Lots of contracts expiring in the near future and we may have just a ton of money tied up in offensive skill players. I have a feeling Hester might be the odd man out after the season if he doesn't have a decent year as the #3/4 WR. He'll be owed, IIRC, about $9M next season. They signed Weems to be the KR and Bennett can do the PR duties. They just drafted Jeffery to be their future with Marshall and Bennett. $9M is too much to pay a guy who is an average WR. Also, they could cut Bush after the year if he follows in the tracks of being another wasted contract on a back-up RB. Thomas only got a 1 year deal. Toeaina might also go if he continues to be average. Idonije could always go if McClellin steps up or if he's just too ineffective. I'm not too worried about it. Stein is great with the finances, IMO. Urlacher, Melton, and Cutler will be getting extensions sometime during the season, I'd bet.
  11. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 09:25 AM) Since when are Lohse or Westbrook available? Cards are still contending.. I never said they are. I said maybe. Looking at their roster, I don't know who else it could be. Like you said, they still aren't out of it. I was thinking Rzepczynski as a situational LHP but he's been terrible this year.
  12. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 08:46 AM) Joe Strauss said the White Sox scouts are still following the Cards around. Any idea who we might be interested in? Westbrook or Lohse, maybe. I don't know for sure though.
  13. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 06:32 PM) Your point was that you said Kane's a center, which is incorrect. You also tried to paint a picture that Kane = Plekanec, which is also incorrect. You also said it would be a steal for the Hawks, yet the Hawks, in theory, were holding out for more draft picks. If you think that deal is a steal, well, I don't know what to tell you. There's a huge difference between Hammer an PK, but also a huge difference between Kane and Plekanec, whether you want to believe that or not is your choice. No, my point was that if the Hawks go into the season with their current team, Kane will be their 2nd line C. Coach Q and the organization refuse to give Sharp any shot at that spot, which is fine if Kane plays well. In my eyes, getting Subban and Plekanec for Kane would be a steal. It'd be an even bigger one if the Hawks received a pick or two in the deal. I never said Kane = Plekanec. The only thing I said was both are 2nd line C's. Right now, Kane is their 2nd line C barring a trade. So yes, 2nd line C = 2nd line C. However, Kane > Plekanec. But Plekanec is a good player and is only 29. 29 year old C (Plekanec) + young D man who is going to be very good (Subban) > 24 year old wing/C (Kane). It's just an opinion. If you'd rather have Hjalmarsson and Kane over Subban and Plekanec, that's fine and I can see why, but let's not act like my opinion is totally off base and wrong. Subban > Hjalmarsson Kane > Plekanec
  14. I don't know if someone mentioned this, but a 4 game series between the Cubs and Sox would be fine with me. The first 2 can be at US Cellular and the last at Wrigley, or vice versa. One series, 4 games. I don't want two 2 game series'.
  15. QUOTE (The Gooch @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 02:53 PM) So he had a winning record in 5/8 seasons he was here. Your kind of proving greg's point on the winning culture part.... Yes, a winning record for 5/8 seasons, but 3 times under .500 with the payroll they had + an 83-79 finish (.512) isn't going to cut it. One playoff appearance since winning a championship isn't going to cut it. That is not a winning culture. That's winning one championship and being very mediocre for the remaining 7 seasons.
  16. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 02:32 PM) Yes and he is outstanding there. Hes a wing, but thanks. What is your point? I never said Kane wasn't good at C and I never said he didn't play wing. My point was that Kane for Plekanec is giving up great potential for good player, but Subban for Hjalmarsson is great potential for 5th defenseman.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 09:33 PM) You said Kane = Plekanec. Case closed. Show me where I said "Kane = Plekanec." QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 11:33 PM) I'm not sure where you think that would be a steal for the Hawks. So much of a steal that the Hawks, in theory, were trying to get draft picks from Montreal to even out the trade. Indeed, case closed. Oversimplified, but also incorrect. Since when is Kane a 2nd line center? First off he's not a center, second of all he's more of a 1st line winger than a 2nd line winger. Since he played there last year.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 12:08 AM) I think you are joking cause O'Douls is non alcoholic. I'll be at Friday's Sox-KC game tho. Yes it is coincidence. Have you taken a look at Oz's overall body of work in Chicago? It's a winning culture under Oz. Rotten last 2 seasons but even then decent records. I love Mark Buehrle. Blasphemy. He was the manager for 8 seasons, and in 4 of those, his winning percentage was .512 or worse, including 3/4 being under .500. Yeah, what a winner that bag of s*** was. But HE won the World Series. Yeah, he won it alright. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 02:09 PM) I'll take a vote. Do you all really want me to go thru that long, well thought out post point by point and re-but? I will if you want that. I dont think people want me to do that. I love hawk, but he is going to make the current guy look good, which is fine. I like Ventura as well. Ugh. This argument confounds me. My god. they bring in a closer for a gadzillion dollars; you have to pitch the guy in the closer's rule. It's the closer trashing their season, not ozzie. Now I guess it's to the point he's going to have to do something; Oz has indicated that, but he STILL doesn't want to replace Bell. My guess is Bell will start the second half as the closer, as he should. See what happens. Or closer by committee, but you got to go with the high paid acquisition; why can't u guys see that?? It's called a TEAM; gm acquires players; you play them. Now the closer can be kept out of a game or two, but until the GM disposes of him, he's the high paid guy who plays. This is sports; this is life. You "got to go" with the higher paid player? Since when?
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 08:34 AM) LOL, ok, you certainly over simplified things. Kane has still massive upside. That's over simplifying things...how? Yes, Kane has massive upside, but Subban has Norris trophy type upside and, IIRC, he's even younger than Kane and he plays a position that the Hawks need more. Keep in mind, Hjalmarsson is no better than a 5th defenseman. A young, really good defenseman and a 2nd line C who's only 29 for Kane and a 5th defenseman would be a steal for the Hawks. Bergevin isn't stupid. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 11:26 AM) Updated...looks like Kane and Subban are out (if this is even true). Plekanec and Hjalmarsson are the package starters. Also, in on Doan (which we already knew). Needs more pepper. If Montreal wants a pick, Hjalmarsson, and a prospect for Plekanec, the Hawks would be dumb to not make that deal. He's 29 and will put up 55+ points next year. He even had 69 and 70 in a year before.
  20. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 11:48 AM) It's even worse when Bob Foltman is on, he dominates the conversation every time with that grating voice of his. It's not much better when Hub Arkush is on.
  21. Here's how I'd break the trade down: 2nd line C for 2nd line C- Kane for Plekanec D for D- Subban for Hjalmarsson Why the f*** would Montreal trade PK Subban for Niklas Hjalmarsson?
  22. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 9, 2012 -> 06:55 PM) It's borderline unwatchable to me. Considering they had KC Johnson on today and he didn't speak one time when they talked about the Bears, Sox, and Cubs was pretty hilarious. He's a good writer and knows his s***. Unfortunately, they need to go into their show with 3 topics in mind and have 3 guys on who can contribute to each conversation with the other two pretty much interviewing them. For example, if they have Haugh, Gonzales and that boob from Haray Caray's on, have Haugh and the boob ask Gonzales questions when they are talking Sox. However, it'll never work because Kaplan and Haugh think they are the best things since sliced bread.
  23. I'm thinking about emailing this senile Cubbie fan to tell him how wrong and how big of a dope he is.
  24. On CTL, Phil Rogers just said that Dale Sveum has done a better job than Robin this year in most categories. LMAOROFLLOLHAHA what the f***ing f***?
  25. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 10:30 PM) Are the Cubs still paying Zambrano's contract or is that on Miami. He would be one I'd have some interest in on Miami, other then MB obviously. f*** that. He's still a nutcase and he hasn't been all that good this year.
