  1. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 11:23 AM) I would guess he'd fly into Fort Lauderdale. It's a lot closer. What he said.^^ QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 11:52 AM) He's not the player he once was, but he was sure close this spring. Since 2010, Brodeur ranks 40th out of 44 goalies in EV SV%.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 12:05 AM) Dumb. We have two young pitchers with closer stuff in Jones and Reed. DeAza and Viciedo under club control almost indefinitely. Rios and Dunn for two more years, Alexei even longer, if we so chose to keep him or trade (and we have no replacements in the minors, so it's not just an obvious move to deal him). We have Sale, Danks and Quintana together for at least four years. The situation isn't that bleak. We probably will bring back AJ for one or two more years and work Flowers in there, so that position will be at least "average" for next year. We do need to find a solution (permanently) at 3B and 1B, but what are the odds we won't try to retain Konerko for at least 2014? Mitchell could be a factor as early as late this season, but probably 2013. Beck, if we can straighten out his mechanics and get him to shed weight in the off-season, could move QUICKLY. They might even put him in the AFL. Then we have a long line of pitchers like Axelrod, Castro, Hernandez and others that are showing promise...Rienzo, Petricka, we've got some very good pieces, and a ton of depth in terms of bullpen arms. Eventually, Santiago could be a factor as a starter as well. He's not quite getting it done in the bullpen, with tonight being a good example. But the problem is that he's still a better option than Ohman, PROBABLY. We legitimately had about 10 options to choose from to replace Ohman. And that's calling Phil Humber a lost cause at this point, which is far from certain. Or closing off the possibility of Peavy still being on the Sox again in 2013. Neither one of those are slam dunks. So why was what I said so dumb? It seems that we agree. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 07:56 AM) Mitchell will not be up in 2013. Right now he's struggling a bit but has started to hit again. Sure, his average isn't great but he's a great athlete and his OBP is fantastic. By the start of 2013, I expect him to compete to win a job with the Sox. By then, Rios will be gone and they will need a RF'er unless Danks works out. He's probably a natural CF, but the Sox can get him started in RF and eventually move him over.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 08:34 AM) It will be interesting to see where he lands. I think a sleeper might be New Jersey. It looks like Brodeur is on his way out which might be a blessing in disguise because he's not the player he once was or even close, and that could open up a spot for Luongo there. The Devils' downfall was when they gave Kovalchuk all of that money. He's a good player with a disgusting one timer, but now they won't have Parise and maybe Salvador next season. BTW, an interesting rumor I heard today is that if (when?) Brodeur leaves NJ, the Devils might want Crawford. If that's the case, the Hawks would go after Bernier. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 07:57 AM) Destination: Sunrise or Toronto. It still hasn't been 100% confirmed that it's him, but his supposed Twitter account has been hilarious, especially when trade rumors are brought up. Fixed.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 12:08 AM) Ozzie was manager of the team; that's generally regarded as a pretty important job. The Sox didn't want Ozzie anymore. If they did, he'd still be here. And quarterback of an NFL team isn't a pretty important job. Ok. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 02:06 AM) So if it's so important, he's why the Marlins are failing, right? NO. HEATH BELL IS TERRIBLE. THAT'S WHY
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 29, 2012 -> 06:19 AM) For having the worst farm system in the history of baseball, the Sox sure got some nice contributions last night from Axelrod, Tank, & Reed. Even though De Aza wasn't brought up with the Sox, you can say him too since he did spend time with the Sox farm system.
  6. How will the Bulls make the playoffs? Who's going to score? You can't win every night 78-73.
  7. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 09:54 PM) There's just no way Rose can guard the best SG's in the nba, I don't care how good his vertical is. Guys will just be pump faking in his face daring him to jump. The second rookie is Jimmy Butler, who Bulls fan assume will take over the Ronnie Brewer role this upcoming year Once again, I'm not an NBA fan but I do watch some on a boring fall/winter night when there's no NHL, NCAA or NFL, but if the Bulls are going to be without Deng until November, Rose until March, and depending on Butler for big minutes, they might have a chance at a top 8 pick next June.
  8. Hopefully Rowand does well. Listening to DJ on the radio makes me want to swerve and hit a post.
  9. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 05:15 PM) No conflict at all. With or without Viciedo there's not a lot to build around after this year, dude. Mitchell will be up in 2013. De Aza is pretty damn good. Sale is OK I'd say. Floyd is a 4 or 5, Danks is a 2 or 3 when healthy, Beckham is a great fielder and is starting to hit, Jordan Danks has shown flashes, Flowers has a cannon, and so on. Hopefully Thompson and Hawkins can turn out to be alright. Axelrod showed tonight that he can be decent. After the year, they might be able to get an OK prospect for Alexei if they so choose, and if Rios keeps this up, I can see a team like Pittsburgh taking a chance on him after the season for a good prospect. Why so mad?
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 05:33 PM) With a week to go in a long lost season? Negotiating with the total approval of his current team that didn't want him? KW prolly held a party praying Ozzie would negotiate with the Marlins. I have the ultimate defense: A world series title. Case closed. The Sox gave him approval to seek a job somewhere else in the middle of September? Is this a joke of some sort? And a WS is the ultimate defense? Hey, Trent Dilfer was great at football because he won a ring. Dan Marino therefore sucked a**. Robert Horry is better than Michael Jordan since he has more championships. Hey man, it's the ultimate defense, right?
  11. The Sox should bring up Dan Johnson to take Viciedo's spot.
  12. I'd love to see the Hawks sign Parenteau, Suter, or Doan (for 2-3 years only).
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 09:59 AM) Sale wont even be eligible to pitch in the ASG because he is starting that friday. Sorry to disappoint. Didn't Ventura say yesterday that he'd plan their post-ASG rotation around who gets into the game?
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 28, 2012 -> 08:20 AM) Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN This is great: Giancarlo Stanton will be in the Home Run Derby. Sale and Stanton are my two favorite MLB players right now, and one will be in the HR Derby and the other might be the ASG starter. Wow.
  15. I'm not really an NBA guy, but if New Orleans drafts Tyler Zeller and Anthony Davis, and Eric Gordon is healthy next year, you have to figure that they'll win at least 35 games next year, right? That's not good by any stretch but much better than the mess they were this past season.
  16. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 03:07 PM) And Theo's spects are always the best, right? Guy's got the PR thing down cold, but he's been about as good as KW since 07. Didn't Theo win a championship in 2007 or 2008? Maybe their records are identical, but let's not compare KW to Theo. I would've been extremely happy if he took over for the Sox like he did for the Cubs. QUOTE (whitem0nkey @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 02:12 PM) have the cubs lost a year of control by calling him up this season? No. They waited until 2 days ago to prevent losing a year. The cut off was June 24 or something, I believe.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 07:56 PM) I'm glad the white sox are in first is all I can say about that. I really don't care how the Marlins do because it doesn't really matter. Ozzie Guillen has more money than unfortunately I'll ever be able to count and he's a grown man who is fine. I take no joy in them winning and no sadness in them losing. I do, however, stand up for Ozzie Guillen when he is attacked or ripped or mocked concerning his time spent in Chicago because IMO he's one of my favorite Sox players ever and by far my favorite manager. It looks as if Robin has what it takes and if KW does his job, I'm happy to believe Robin could also win some WS titles. I see no point in people blasting ozzie for the time he spent in Chicago. It's not his fault Dunn and Rios sucked last year, it really isn't. He supported those guys and kept playing them and they failed him. Big deal. He's a grown man, as I said. He also gave Jenks every chance to succeed and Sergio and sometimes yes they failed him too. He was a great White Sox through and through and now I want us to win with Robin. I don't feel sorry for Ozzie and his millions of dollars. I do stand up for him when he is unfairly attacked for his years in chicago. That's "all" you can say? Or that's "all" you want to say considering that Ozzie had a better team on paper last year and quit on the team?
  18. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 05:00 PM) Wait, did you not create this thread as a joke? StrangeSox is to Ohman as to what Greg is to Ozzie.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 03:38 PM) And I will ban the first person to post a "Will Ohman Appreciation thread". Whoever does it, don't ban them yet. Ask them for confirmation. It might be a hacker.
  20. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 11:31 AM) I've thought for a long time that Greg is just a fake account by another poster that was made to rile us up. Nobody can be that happily clueless IRL can they? Thinking the NL is better than the AL was the last straw. Maybe greg is Cowley?
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 27, 2012 -> 12:15 AM) Bell is horrible. That is not Ozzie's fault. I don't even know how many WS titles Weaver and Tommy won, but arguably Oz is already better than those two because he led the Chicago White Sox to a WS title. Do you realize Chicago teams DO NOT win WS titles? And guess who led them to one?? Ozzie. Before Ozzie? I don't even know who our manager was in 1917 or whenever we won one. If you think heath Bell is good, then bless you. Heath is a trainwreck and he's not Ozzie's fault. Why? I don't think I'm banned yet. So wait, Ozzie is better than those other two because he won a World Series with the White Sox? YOU are the trainwreck.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 07:45 PM) If he's the owner, then it's pretty crazy to think my defense of Ozzie would elicit such a venomous response. All I'm doing is stating my defense of Ozzie. It's not like I'm starting threads saying Ozzie this and Ozzie that and I wish Ozzie was still here. You guys think Ozzie quit on the team whatever that means. I say the Sox didn't want him and he sped up the process by negotiating the final week or whenever. If the Sox wanted Ozzie Guillen and made it known they wanted Oz through thick and thin, he'd still be here. Also, who cares if he's playing on the internet before games instead of scouring advanced stats. What did Earl Weaver do back in the day w/no internet or Tommy Lasorda? They played grabass with the media I'm sure or played cards. Who cares? A manager brings the intangibles and semblance of strategy DURING games. If demanding a new contract in the middle of September and willingly negotiating with another team during September isn't quitting on the Sox, what is? Did he literally have to not show up to the park? I suppose that would've been Kenny's fault, or the gas prices were too high at the time. And please, NEVER use Ozzie in the same paragraph as Earl Weaver and Tommy Lasorda, unless you're listing reasons about how different they are as managers, as in, "Ozzie is dogs*** compared to Lasorda and Weaver." Please get over yourself. I'm 24 posts in and you annoy me already. There's a reason Ozzie was a .525 manager with the Sox and his current team sucks, but I suppose that's Miami management's fault. Getting Reyes, Buehrle, and Bell was horrible. RIIIIGHT. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 26, 2012 -> 09:58 PM) I still think his account got hacked. No, it didn't. He just doesn't like you.
  23. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 25, 2012 -> 10:23 AM) Sale Starts 14-4 Peavy Starts 14-4 Quintana Starts 14-4 Floyd Starts 6-12 Axelrod/Danks/Humber Starts 2-16 Unfortunately, the Sox are 0-5 in Peavy and Sale's last 5 starts combined.
  24. If we were any luckier, we would've heard Hawk say "it's not who you play; it's when you play them" for the 6th time tonight.
  25. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 11:34 PM) I may be wrong, but I believe that the Bears can franchise him again in 2013 even if he sits out 2012. Call me crazy, but the Bears should tag him this year and in 2013. He'll get all ~$17M, and that should be enough to live his life on. After that, they should let him walk. IIRC, he'll be 29 or 30 at that point. That's too old to give him a $8-9M/year deal. If he doesn't sign the tag for 2013, get the highest draft pick you can for him.
