  1. QUOTE(max power @ Mar 4, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) Jim Hendry is a disgusting looking human being. I don't call him Quasimodo for nothing.
  2. Now, I have to admit that changeup was awesome. I like what I saw from him the last inning though. Even with several of the fastballs which were tagged, he doesn't appear to pitch up in the zone or go deep in counts. And it's quite obvious his stuff is superior to Buehrles.
  3. I really hope to see Gonzalez or Danks pitch. If we see neither today, they'll likely pitch tomorrow. Then we'll have to wait until Sunday, if then. I'm just too damn impatient for that.
  4. You know, some of these pitches look awfully close. Hawk was right last year when he said many umpires don't know how to call strikes for a knuckleballer.
  5. Oh, and in case anyone was curious, McCarthy pitched today. 2IP, 4 SO's, 1H, 1BB.
  6. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 4, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) Besides the homer that was a great inning for Haeger. I like. Haeger really needs to throw more strikes. I believe he started every count 2-0. That wouldn't fare too well as a reliever with those type of starts.
  7. Soriano didn't look too comfortable with that read. This should be an interesting year in CF.
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 4, 2007 -> 02:27 PM) Leave Santo alone, it was a tough week for him. Speaking of him, Len/Casper haven't even gotten around to the topic yet. That'll be a interesting 6 innings of talk.
  9. Rich Hill doing exactly what he does best -- dominate minor league talent.
  10. Jesus, Ramirez wasn't even in the frame during that DP. Pinella should be on his ass for dogging it.
  11. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 4, 2007 -> 02:19 PM) Garland looks uninterested, like everyone on the team in the spring Garland always looks uninterested. And considering this is the first televised game, I don't know how you could generalize about the rest of the games.
  12. Looks like we're going to have "all fastball" Garland today. And doesn't even appear to have good control with a 88 mph fastball at that.
  13. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 3, 2007 -> 11:23 PM) I have a sinking feeling that it could be local WGN and not the Superstation. Your seeking feeling is..........WRONG. Superstation TV Guide
  14. QUOTE(max power @ Mar 3, 2007 -> 02:40 PM) I just watched "City of God" after seeing it as #17 on the imdb Top 250 Movies of all time. I have to say, I was very disappointed. While the movie was solid a 7/10. I see nothing about it worthy of such praise. I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course but I am curious about why people love this movie so much. To me it was just a simple story, one that was very typical and not ground breaking in any way. The guy starts small with big dreams, gains power/takes control, gets huge, controversy happens between two groups, people die. I mean, its like the movie copied its plot from scarface. The only difference being its about life in the slums, its told by a narrator and its foreign. My ideas are some people like the movie simply because its foreign. They hate hollywood. I hate most of what hollywood has done lately, too. It doesn't make this movie a 10/10. The other thought I have is people love this movie because its lessor known. They like being in an exclusive group that knows about this movie. Anyone else see this movie? I believe what defines the movie for many of its fanbase is exactly the points which you alluded to -- particulary, a similar plot structure to Scarface. When you exclude setting, the main character's narration, and the foreign element as being the "only difference" from Scarface, those are each significant differences which set it apart. For me, originality isn't what I immediately look for in identifying a quality film. It's just too rare for an inventive idea to come along. And when you really think about it, the only genre of film capable of such an accomplishment is science fiction or horror. Large percentage of thriller, romantic comedy, mystery, action film (insert remaining genres) typically have retread and/or simple story lines. It's what filmmakers do with the film which matters. I'll give you this for example -- Heat. What exactly sets it apart? You systematically tear apart it's storyline, you simply have a cops and robber movie. Obviously, it's not that simple. The characters, dialog, cinematography, soundtrack all set it apart from other films. Similarily, City of God sets itself apart from Scarface by using an old storyline in a unique way. I'm not really a huge fan of the film, either. Although I can understand why people like it. Scarface is practically god-like in stature to some, yet personally, I'd rather view Carlito's Way because it's not nearly as over the top. People just have their own preferences.
  15. Updated roster photos have been posted on the official website. Someone really should have told Floyd to shave his neck beard prior to taking the photo. Or for Thornton to put on some sunscreen.
  16. When trying to access Soxtalk's chatroom, which requires a java applet, I'm giving the option of downloading the missing plugin. This is under Mozilla Firefox V.2.0. When I follow the instructions and download the software, nothing happens after completion. It says the transfer was successful, yet, I'm still unable to access the chatroom. The same icon available before installation which says to download a a plugin still mocks me. Ridiculous. Is there an easy solution to this? The exact program in question is J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11.
  17. You figure Gonzalez and Danks should be pitching tomorrow. That's reason enough to watch.
  18. Hell, Floyd didn't pitch great; but it's certaintly better than the other starters. And considering he's fighting for a slot within the rotation, he'll need to pitch his best every start.
  19. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 08:29 PM) Its very apparent that Ozzie is going to be given the bait almost everytime he gives an interview to say something outrageous. It appears he can't help himself and will spout off. It will eventually lead to his demise, and a lot of people will be shocked. I won't. This is why I mentioned before, following Tim Hardaway comments and such, that Williams should specifically instruct the team not to say anything outrageous if they're asked about gays in professional sports. Or really anything with political connotations. You figure a reporter somewhere is dying for the opportunity to ask Guillen what he thinks on the issue, hoping for some homophobic rant. I'm afraid what he may say beforehand.
  20. QUOTE(beck72 @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 07:49 PM) KW's philosophy got him the 2005 WS. That's not to say a guy like Delmon couldn't be given a break. But if the guy's an ass, KW and the sox don't want a part of him. KW has made many public statements to that effect, on having the right mix of players, not necessarily the most talented team on paper. I'd argue his philosophy of seeking under the radar acquisitions from FA and trades got him the world series. Not acquiring good spirited grinders. What about signing Pierzynski? Wasn't he universally panned as an ass? I guarantee if I were to find the thread where he signed, a large majority of the posters here would have looked by his past because it filled a hole of ballclub. We needed a catcher, Pierzynski fit the bill, and thus, he was acquired. I don't believe the phone calls from Williams to various people about Pierzynski mattered much, either. You talk to the right people (ie; Hawk, Hermanson), someone will always have something good to say about another. Ask yourself why else would Sabean hold onto Bonds, with consistent steroid suspicions, if he weren't one of the league's best players? Why would the Rangers sign Sosa? Teams care more about winning with than appeasing the media. I dont' believe Williams is any different. He'd rather give someone every opportunity to fit in here than trade them.
