March 9th: White Sox vs. Arizona

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 04:36 PM) And trying to figure out why we only had 5 hits over 9 with the pitching they tossed out there today. We pretty much had the primo lineup today. 5 hits is just bad with our lineup. /insert spring training excuse -
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 04:24 PM) Actually maybe this is Cotts. In 2005 he had pinpoint control, and kept the ball down and on the corners. However with Cotts he has always been around the strikezone and not necessarily in it. In the majors, you get behind with 2 pitches and you get rocked. I think 05 was the abnormality, and the rest is Cotts. If he can keep the ball down and throw with control he will be fine. I honestly believe it's his arm. Not his control. Perhaps his delivery is back to its old form and you're correct. But from what I recall, in the last several months of 2006, Cotts arm motion to the catcher was in one continuous action. This was different from the hitch/arm pump/whatever you want to label which was previously responsible for deceiving hitters. It always seemed so obvious to me, yet, Cotts failed to revert back to it. At a certain point I began to believe some part of his left arm was in trouble. When he finally delt for Aarsdam, I was happy to receive anything for him now.

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 04:07 PM) To me, if Danks turns into Gavin Floyd it will be because he's not a very good pitcher, not becuase got rushed to the bigs and couldn't handle failing. I don't think that debuting at a young age derailed Floyd. If you look at his minor league numbers he's always had low K totals, and generally unimpressive stats. Add to that his loss of velocity the last few years and you have a guy struggling to post a 6 ERA in NL. but....but...but.. OUR SCOUTS SAW SOMETHING IN HIM IN THE ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE! -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 04:02 PM) And then there are guys like Mark Buerhle who came up and did ok also. Some guys have the stones and the talent, and others have talent and no stones. You know why I'm hesitant about Danks? Not only because he may not be ready, but let's remember who his agent is. Sending him up, then down, wastes valuable service time. That's atleast how I see it. -

QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) If he's the best bet to put wins on the board, he better be starting in the bigs. Some players can handle "being rushed" (Bonderman certainly has survived). I assume the worst case would be Danks heads north and gets slammed and is repalced in the rotation by someone like Haeger. I would hope that Danks would have the resilience to survive and pull himself together in AAA. If he doesn't, that's a sign he's not the guy Williams thinks he is. Just for reference, McCarthy debuted when he was 21 (Danks is 21 now) and got hit hard. And then he came back from AAA to be lights out down the stretch in 2005. If McCarthy could do it, Danks should be able to as well. Bonderman didn't exactly succeed immediately in the majors. Instead of working himself through the minors he was sent to the majors out of A ball. Danks should atleast have some time in AAA. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 03:46 PM) If Boone Logan wasn't here and acting like Boone Logan last year, I might be tempted to call Danks this year's ST Boone Logan. Yeah. If he continues pitching well throughout spring training against major leaguers (and not the crap Logan faced in late innigns last year), he'll be on his own. -

2nd DP turned behind Danks ends this afternoon. He just completed his third scoreless inning. -
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) Cotts has allowed 14 hits in 5 innings of work this spring. Still sounds like the guy who allowed nearly a .500 OBP against him after the break. There's no way Cotts is healthy.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) Danks is really working his way into the 5th starter mix. If we're really serious about Danks, he should be starting games from this point forward. When you come into a game after the starter, there's a chance several of the opposing team's players may have been replaced. He should be giving our coaches a good look against legitimate major league talent. -

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) Is it just me or does John Danks seem ways ahead of Gavin Floyd? Well, Danks has talent. Floyd? Not so much. -

What disappoints me about Garland isn't necessarily the HR's, but eight hits in three innings? They all couldn't have been off changeups. -

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 02:46 PM) Ceaser Crispo makes it 2-1 I just turned the f***ing game on to. No more changes ups. I don't mind that it's his changeups being killed. Garldn needs the pitch to work for him. Might as well refine it now. -

Bastards. They defied local newspapers and decided to air the split squad game no one cares about.

Both McCarthy and Cotts are starting for their respective clubs today. The game will be broadcasted on Comcast Sports Net at 2:05. Just a heads up to everyone out there.

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 10:21 AM) There was a special on the History Channel last night about "300". It wasn't about the movie, but about the real stand. http://www.history.com/shows.do?action=det...pisodeId=214233 I watched about an hour and thought it was rather good. It's obvious they attempted to mimmick some of the cinematography featured within 300. The movie itself was rated 4 starts by Richard Roeper. Another film I'm interested in seeing, "The Host," was given 3 1/2.
