Floyd article
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 01:19 PM) Considering Floyd did nothing to prove last year he's anywhere close to being ready to start in the American League, I hope KW/Ozzie aren't that stubborn. It's their responsibility to rationalize the selection of Floyd over other starters if the results don't match. Such as, if Floyd's ERA is hovering around 8; Haeger around 4; Danks below 3, Williams can't exactly spin anything other than having the decision made before spring training began. Unless Floyd's peripherals are amazing and aren't indicative of his inflated ERA, a reasonable picture of who's good and who's not should be provided by late March. I'm sure his ass-lickers will mention how Haeger is a knuckleballer and Danks could use time in AAA. But then, why give anyone the impression this race is wide open? If I were anyone vying for a position, I'd rather Williams come out and suggest "Floyd will win no matter what" rather than pitching my ass off, only to have a reservation in Charlotte awaiting me. I can't be the only one who believes Floyd is destined to win the position because Williams needs to prove the immediate results of trading Garcia benefit this club.

So What Do We Think of This Jersey?
Sure as hell not worth $250.

Sox vs. Rox, March 10th 2007, 2:05 CST (SS)
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) f***. Masset is pitching, looks like we'll have to wait another couple days to see him pitch for the first time this spring. There are three games televised next week. One more on MLBTV next Sunday. No way he avoids pitching all of these days. Judging from his stats, he hardly appears ready for the majors. Although I'm not sure how hard he's throwing or what pitches he's using.

It'd be hilarious if Buckvich gave up a game tying grand slam here. Whether spring training or not, defeating Oakland is never easy.

Sox back in it. 11-9 Colorado in the 6th. Thome hit a 2-R HR.

Sox vs. Rox, March 10th 2007, 2:05 CST (SS)
Look at Buehrle's line. It's just hilarious. 4IP, 6H, 6ER, 2BB, 4SO, 2HR, WP, HBP. I'll base my thoughts on this line based upon his comments. If he's "frustrated" or talking about "hitting spots and the other players are making contact" I'll be worried. Anything suggesting self-doubt isn't good.

Now I understand why the Cubs traded Aardsma -- Angel Guzman is his Latin clone. Nothing but fastballs all over the zone.

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 03:49 PM) I'm telling you, it's such a blessing for our organization that Buehrle isn't serious about signing a contract extension. One area of his game that I may potentially miss is the innings he provides. But, yet again, if our bullpen in future seasons reaches their expectation we won't need every starter to throw 7 innings every night. Guillen (or whomever else) won't have to leave out a start one inning too long.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 03:46 PM) He threw 1 breaking ball off the plate Mike Sweeney wiffed at, whoever the hell is in the booth with Kermit today wouldn't shut the hell up about it. That's the sort of thing you're going to see highlighted tomorrow. Well, he allowed 8 runs but he made Sweeney look bad on a breaking ball and at this time in the Spring that's really all that matters. Dan Plesack was slurping that particular pitch. Only breaking ball Prior successfully threw for a strike, at that.

Sox vs. Oakland, March 10, 2:05 (SS)
Prior has given up four runs in two innings of work. No one can spin this.

Sox vs. Oakland, March 10, 2:05 (SS)
HA, Nice home run Prior. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) No chance they'd give us him for Cotts. Marmol has excellent stuff. I really hope Aardsma is better than I think he is. I wouldn't have expected it, either. Just suggesting Marmol alone would have been fine. Even with the fact he may not have been in our bullpen for 2007. Oh, no now Tracey can hit people.

Anderson needs to drive in Crede from 3rd. These are the type of situations Guillen will focus on if he fails.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 03:26 PM) You think we could have gotten a better prospect then Vasquez from the cubs? I would have been satisfied if Cotts were delt for Carlos Marmol alone.

Sox vs. Oakland, March 10, 2:05 (SS)
QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 03:18 PM) I think once Prior leaves the Cubs organization he will revive his career and become a solid pitcher. If it's his arm, changing organizations won't add velocity. It'd be different if Prior were throwing 94-95 mph and experiencing failure. Watching him this last inning, he threw 88mph for several batters; but couldn't even elevate a weak breaking ball. Right on. The scrub prospects have no entered the game.
-
Sox vs. Oakland, March 10, 2:05 (SS)
Prior pitching for the Cubs now. He has yet to exceed 87 mph........until the last pitch at 112 mph. Looks like someone is tinkering with the gun. Oh, and now he throws 94. Bulls***. He looks bad. Real bad. Poor control and worse stuff.

Sox vs. Oakland, March 10, 2:05 (SS)
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 03:01 PM) For a control pitcher, he certainly has terrible control. That's sort of the problem. Buehrle may have comparable 'stuff,' but he has control. Broadway gives up hits, surrenders walks, AND has low strikeout totals. Not a good recipe for success in the majors.
-
Sox vs. Oakland, March 10, 2:05 (SS)
Three run, bases clearing double from Your-Ebay. 5-2 Sox. Swisher's scruffy ass misplays a line drive from Crede. 6-2. Bases loaded AGAIN for Broadway in the third. sigh...

Garland's shoulder sore
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 02:14 PM) I know this is shocking coming from me, but I feel like our starting pitching could really be a disaster this season. I know people don't consider wins in evaluating players, but if you were take the victories from our starters last season and apply it to 2007, it's going to be difficult for our staff to compensate for Garcia. We can't have Floyd giving us under 10 wins unless Contreras, Vazquez, Buehrle, and the bullpen improve. The offense can't regress, either. I don't believe our rotation will be a disaster, but it won't be enough to reach the playoffs if their statistics are comparable to last season.

Great play from Uribe saves Broadway. Inning over. Bottom of the 2nd, tied at 2.
-
Sox vs. Oakland, March 10, 2:05 (SS)
Bases loaded, 0 outs, and Broadway almost surrenders a grand slam. Instead a sacrifice fly makes it 2-1 White Sox. I can't wait until he leaves our organization. -------------------------------------------------------------- I'm still blaming Broadway for that misplay by Lopez. Run would have scored, regardless. Tied with Oakland, 2-2.

Oh, so I guess his poor start wasn't the result of 'working on pitches' as many here assumed....
