  1. Ayala battled in his first at bat, but struck out looking. Second at bat, he chased a 1-2 breaking ball in the dirt, and struck out for his second time. Hopefully, he'll fare better once the Elizabethton starter is gone.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 22, 2013 -> 05:38 PM) http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?g...ox&sid=milb http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?s...mp;ymd=20130622 Hawkins down to .192 from a season high of .229. 3/37 with 22 strikeouts during that stretch. Still has a season OPS of 767, amazingly. It's getting close to time to pull the plug and send him down to Kanny so he can play together with Anderson, Micah Johnson and Barnum. That would be my play. About 10 days ago, I was against moving Hawkins down, but enough is enough. They might think about putting Micah Johnson in the OF and sending him to Winston-Salem, too. If I'm Buddy Bell though, I stick all four of those guys together and let them win a second half championship in the SAL and learn how to play AND WIN together, as well as learning how to play the game the right way. Exactly. What is struggling at a higher level going to do? It seems he's not quite ready. Kanny should help him develop some more.
  3. Is this your opinion or did you get this from somewhere?
  4. Michalczewski just got his first professional hit w/ a single up the middle.
  5. Bristol White Sox Lineup for tonight (6pm EST) vs. the Elizabethton Twins. 1) Thurman Hall, CF - .333 (3-9), 1 R 2) Jake Brown, DH - .000 (0-3). Hit .316 in 15 G in Kanny 3) Toby Thomas, SS - .400 (2-5), 1 R 4) Patrick Palmeiro, 1B - .375 (3-8), 1 2B. Hit .190 in 40 G in Kanny. 5) Nolan Earley, LF - .167 (1-6), 2 R, 1 RBI, 3 BB 6) Trey Michalczewski, 3B - .000 (0-1), 2 BB 7) Sammy Ayala, C - Season debut, hit .202 in 24 G with Bristol in 2012, but hit over .300 over his last 10 games. 8) Antonio Rodriguez, RF - .000 (0-3) 9) Victor Velasquez, 2B - .000 (0-3) Pitcher: Jordan Guerrero - Season debut, 0-1, 3.00 ERA in 7 games (0 starts), 10 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 6 K in 9.0 innings for Bristol in 2012.
  6. Reed closes it down...a pair of popups and a shallow flyout.
  7. Looks like CF Thurman Hall, LF Nolan Earley, RF Carl Thomore, CI Patrick Palmeiro all started again for Bristol. Different players in the other 5 spots. Not a great start for Thomore...0-for-4 last night with a pair of strikeouts, and he's 0-for-4 today thus far with 2 strikeouts. Why has Ayala not played yet? The other 3 catchers have played so far...Stoner started at catcher last night, and Rosario tonight. Parent was the DH tonight...Ayala should play tomorrow, right?
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 10:07 PM) Yep, Puig stands way off the plate. Two sliders, down and away. Had him off balance once he got ahead in the count. He threw all sliders to Uribe. I went to the game. Marquis made him look foolish at the plate after he hit the home run. Struck him out twice and then got him to break his bat and ground out weakly. Puig AB's 1) vs. Jason Marquis: Sinker: Home Run 2) vs. Jason Marquis Sinker: Ball Sinker: Foul Slider: Swinging Strike Slider: Swinging Strike (Strikeout) 3) vs. Jason Marquis Slider: Swinging Strike Slider: Swinging Strike Slider: Ball in Dirt Slider: Swinging Strike [in dirt] (Strikeout) 4) vs. Nick Vincent Slider: Swinging Strike Slider: Weak, broken bat ground out to short. 5) vs. Huston Street Slider: Foul Slider: Ball Slider: Ball Changeup: Swinging Strike Slider: Foul Slider: Swinging Strike (Strikeout)
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 02:07 PM) So Ronald Bellisario just made one of the worst plays you'll ever see http://msti.files.wordpress.com/2013/06/be...06-19.gif?w=450 2 errors on one play? !
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 09:34 PM) Is Bristol going to have Ayala, Tim Anderson, Barnum, Basto, and Michalczewski? That will be a box score I check daily. Especially with Danish pitching there. Mitchell is going to Great Falls. Hopefully as a SP. Well, looks like Tim Anderson and Keon Barnum are both in Kannapolis now.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 11:54 AM) Bristol and Great Falls rosters not fully posted yet, but starting to get some assignment information trickling in (draft picks and returnees). So far looks like: BRISTOL LHP Jordan Guerrero RHP Matt Ball LHP Andre Wheeler INF Tim Anderson INF Audry Santana RHP Charlie Sharrer INF Toby Thomas OF Nolan Earley GREAT FALLS RHP Brad Goldberg LHP Jeff McKenzie C Dillon Haupt C Trey Wimmer --Tyler Danish is talking going east, but not sure if he means Bristol or Kanny. --Sammy Ayala likely back to Bristol, given that the two drafted catchers are going to GF. --Barnum will go wherever Hayes doesn't, I'd assume, but we don't know either yet... but given Barnum's youth, he's likely ticketed for Bristol, with Hayes to GF, if I had to guess. That's all I got right now. Tyler Danish: Tweeted "Hello Bristol" two days ago. Sammy Ayala: Still listed w/ Bristol. Keon Barnum: He's actually listed with the Kannapolis Intimidators. Danny Hayes: Still playing in the CWS. Tim Anderson is also now headed for Kanny.
  12. I think so. Is the best way to follow them the Gametracker/Audio? I'm a bit annoyed that I miss the opener. I work from 8-5:30ish PST (11-8:30ish EST) that day. Might catch the tail end. Also, is there a season preview yet?
  13. Now, I would like to see some players you all are excited to watch as they start their season in a few days. Personally, I am interested to see how Tim Anderson starts off his professional career in Bristol. Sammy Ayala was hitting well towards the end of his first year in Bristol, and I think he can have a solid 2013 campaign. Keon Barnum, 1st rounder from 2012, starts the season in Bristol, where he appeared in just 13 games last season. Hopefully, this year will yield strong numbers for him.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 05:32 PM) If they want to give us Castellanos (their only top prospect) for either of those guys, I wouldn't say no. If the Sox go into rebuilding mode, you can't worry about catching the Tigers the next few years (a team that's "all in"). Tigers are always all in, haha...their farm system is pretty depleted. Also, they took a ridiculous amount of arms (a fair amount are projected to end up in the bullpen) to start the 2013 draft.
  15. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 03:16 PM) We should have a contest--name the player, date of trade, and destination of the first player traded and win some kind of prize. Jesse Crain to the Cincinnati Reds, July 19.
  16. Well, look at the Bristol roster...7 pitchers, 1 catcher (Ayala...I assume he'll get some solid playing time.), 8 infielders, 1 outfielder, and a DH (Stoner).
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 17, 2013 -> 01:42 PM) Think they'd be interested in Peavy? I could see the Padres going after Peavy. He's done pretty well this year. Maybe they'd move Richard to the bullpen...give them a rotation of something like: Peavy, Stults, Cashner, Marquis, Volquez. The Padres have a pretty good farm system. Don't really have any big name prospects, but are one of the better farm systems.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 11:09 PM) Jake, why in the hell should you stick it out with Dunn? I'd trade him so fast if anybody would take him. I'd get Tank out of here with his .267 OBP. Sick of guys who swing at everything, thus are easy outs. You might be able to get something out of somebody looking for a bat off the bench...Sox might have to eat part of his contract though.
  19. There is a lack of bullpen arms that will be on the trade block next month. Jesse Crain could bring in some solid prospects for the subpar farm system. A typically reliable source of relievers, the Padres are contenders right now. Unless they struggle over the next month and a half, Gregerson or Street will be staying put. The Sox should probably hope for that, as that increases Crain's trade value. I have to wonder if they'd trade within the division, as the Tigers desperately need someone to close out games. Nick Castellanos or Avisail Garcia would likely be included in the deal.
  20. What do you all think of the Padres? Just moved to a game over .500. Don't have any clear all star players, yet have had a lot of success since their 5-15 start.
  21. QUOTE (sammy esposito @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 09:05 PM) How about Brent Tanner catcher bats left handed but hitting only .346 He's the same age as Phegley, and in High A ball. Phegley is up in AAA.
  22. 1) Erik Johnson - Throwing well for the AA Birmingham Barons 2) Tim Anderson 3) Courtney Hawkins - struggling in high-A ball 4) Carlos Sanchez - started the 2011 season in Bristol, and has worked his way up to AAA 5) Trayce Thompson - currently in AA Josh Phegley is a pleasant surprise. Doing well in AAA at 25 years old.
  23. ManbearPuig has been tearing it up. Hoping to see him play when they come down to San Diego.
  24. Sammy Ayala, C Born 07/12/1994 in San Diego, CA School: La Jolla Country Day School (HS) 6’2", 195 Throws: R Bats: L OVERVIEW/SCOUTING INFO Ayala's three-sport prowess kept him somewhat under the radar in baseball circles, but he made a name for himself at the Southern California Invitational at the MLB Urban Youth Academy in June, hitting an inside-the-park homer against top prep lefthander Max Fried and an RBI single to the opposite field against righty Andrew Potter. A standout defensive end in football, Ayala has a physical, 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame. He projects for average or slightly better power down the road, but scouts are divided on whether he will hit. He tends to get pull-happy and is vulnerable against soft pitches away or hard pitches in. He'll look bad at times in the batter's box, but his feel for hitting has improved and should solidify once he focuses on baseball. Ayala's arm is above-average, but his receiving and blocking is a work in progress. He moves well enough to play a corner outfield spot, but plenty of scouts think he has a chance to stick behind the plate. A club that believes in his power and defense could take him as high as the second or third round, while other teams would be content to let him go to UC Santa Barbara. (Baseball America Scouting Report) Catchers with defensive potential and true raw power are always interesting prospects, and Ayala is no different. While every part of his game is raw, Ayala has the raw power to hit 20 home runs a year if the utility of his hit tool matures completely. His defense needs considerable work but he is a quality athlete, hard worker and has a strong arm. Ayala will have to develop as a hitter to remain a prospect but at least right now, he is highly intriguing. (Baseball Prospect Nation) Among returning players [to the Bristol White Sox], Sammy Ayala is the most intriguing. The Sox pried the catcher away from college after a lengthy negotiation process with a sizable $258,000 bonus for a 17th-round pick, and he played 24 games for Bristol in 2012. He's still 18 for another month as he rejoins the Sox for the start of the season this time around (6/20/13, South Side Sox). Top 2012 MLB Draft Sleeper by [Baseball Instinct. "Ayala is a 3-sport athlete and while the athleticism is there, questions about his ability to hit on the pro level caused him to drop to the 17th round. But he’s going to project for average power or better and if he can develop to his ability he could be an above average catcher with enough bat to move up the prospect ladder." When not behind the plate, Ayala played right field. SIGN/DRAFT 17th Round (531) Ayala was almost drafted in the fourth round by the St. Louis Cardinals, but the team's offer wasn't substantial enough to persuade Ayala to give up his full scholarship at UCSB. Ayala said the Cardinals offered him $300,000 and a guarantee to cover four years of college tuition and room and board if his baseball career didn't go well. "That's not the money I was looking for,'' Ayala said. "If someone offered me what giving up college for now is worth, I'd be a fool not to take it, but I want to go to college.'' The White Sox, Ayala said, still decided to draft him...in the 17th round and offered him $200,000 and a guarantee to fund his college education if baseball doesn't work out. "That wasn't my number either,'' Ayala said. (La Jolla Patch). Ayala later agreed to sign with the White Sox for a $258,800 bonus, which is 5th round money (Chicago Tribune). MINORS 2012: In his first season in the minors, Ayala hit .202/.261/.274, which wasn't a surprise given his age. However, he turned his struggles around in his final 10 games of the season, hitting .324, including his first professional home run in his last game of the season. 2013: After 10 appearances, he is hitting .270 with 3 RBI. He has thrown out 8 of 15 runners this season, but also has 8 passed balls. He struck out 9 times in his first 5 games, but only twice in his last 5.
