How can you not be excited about the potential of slotting Will Middlebrooks and JBJ in your every day lineup for the next 5 years?

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 12:24 AM) For every spot you name around the Cell, I can name 5 for the Wrigley area. The walkable options you have around the Cell is extremely limited. You wouldn't want to walk far south in that neighborhood. And no one wants to hangout at Chinatown after the game. I go to Chinatown pretty frequently after games... -
Sooo slow for Sox news right now, monday can't come soon enough

Merkin talks winter meetings and other possibilities

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 08:29 PM) I live in South Loop and make decent money for a single guy. I only go to about 5 Sox games a year, and probably just as much Cubs games. Why? Because most of my buddies who are Sox fans couldn't afford to go to more games. Most of my coworkers who could afford to go to games are Cubs fans. Plus, every time we go to Wrigley, there are always things to do after. And I consider myself a diehard Sox fan. It might not have quite the multitude of options that wrigleyville has, but there is plenty to do around the Cell. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 3, 2014 -> 05:42 PM) Then please explain to me why the Cubs draw well. They've had an even worse situation and yet they've never had any problem drawing fans. I don't know man, he makes some valid points. Hard to rouse a fanbase with such limited success. Ya the Cubs have been historically awful, but they've always had exposure far and wide with WGN and they sold that image of classic baseball in America playing in that s***hole of a stadium. People wanna root for underdogs and the Cubs have been underdogs for a long time. That stadium use to be pretty empty itself in the 70's and 80's. As we've seen with the Blackhawks, winning and winning frequently can turn around the fortunes of a franchise quickly. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 07:59 PM) Heisey traded to Dodgers. Seems like Van Slyke will be traded. Strange move bringing in another OF -
QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 12:43 PM) I'm hoping it's CarGo. Same. Eaton L Semien R CarGo L Abreu R LaRoche L Avi R Gillaspie L Flowers R Alexei R

I think this ends up being the big trade of the offseason regardless of which team it ends up being. Hoping it's the Rockies, but have a feeling it'll end up being the Reds.
-
Why not? He would fit the foundation and time frame the Sox are looking at, he could be put in RF to move Avi to LF, and then you can bat him 3rd and put Abreu where he is a better fit in the 4 hole. The price would probably be substantial, but I don't really see the negatives in going after talent like him. Make him a legitimate extension offer and act like a team that sees their window open. Don't waste these productive years from Abreu, Sale, and Q.

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa

If people think Shark is going to get 18-20 a year, I think I'd much rather just sign Scherzer for a couple million more AAV and keep the specs. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 1, 2014 -> 05:57 PM) That is the most comforting article I've read in a long time. Rick is an intelligent guy, I have complete faith in him to make this organization special. -
Dodgers asking the Mariners for Walker or Paxton in return for Kemp. Lol.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 1, 2014 -> 10:01 AM) If he isn't that great, why would any team give up much to get him? He's old, he's falling apart, but he should net a really good prospect. How does that make any sense? Alexei is falling apart? News to me

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 30, 2014 -> 09:38 PM) And once he's tendered a contract, IMO he's your starting corner OF next year, because I don't know why anyone would trade anything for him. Not really, at best he is a platoon next year, though I don't like the proposition of carrying 5 OF for late inning defense as well -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 04:25 PM) You guys may not want to hear it, but that's 100% the exact thing that was said over and over and over again about Samardzija when he was with the Cubs. That's supposedly why hew as traded. You have to spend enough money on him to get him out of that mode. In other words, you're talking about a 9 figure deal to get him to give that up, because that's close to what he'll get as a free agent. I know that's what he's said for the last year or two, but I don't feel like Rick would even be pursuing then as he still talks about going after controllable assets on numerous occasions. Unless the trade was for less than we expected and he's just looking for a year of competition with Shark and then getting the draft pick compensation. -

And seriously, the White Red? f***ing laziness from Gammons. East coast indifference. -

QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 02:57 PM) Not sure if posted @pgammo: With the White Red, Red Sox, Rangers, others talking Samadzija, AL GM says "there is no way he will sign and not go to free agency." I wish I could take Gammons more seriously, but everyone knows he is a Red Sox schill. If that's true though, good luck to the A's on getting anything of consequence for him. -

I'd be much more interested in a guy like Upton coming back to the Sox if they are giving up top specs. He fits their model much better than Shark. A lineup of something like: Eaton Semien Upton Abreu LaRoche Avi Gillaspie Alexei Flowers Looks legits -

Really hope Anderson isn't going anywhere, would think him and Rodon are untouchable unless the package is huge. -

Please don't trade usable assets away for a year of Shark. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 04:04 PM) Sox need a RH starter, or at least would like one. Phillies GM just came out and said he had a good offer for Cole Hamels in hand, but it was from a team not yet mentioned in the media about him. I'll go out on a limb and say the Sox may be taking a shot at Hamels.
