  1. QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 9, 2017 -> 11:27 AM) Maybe MLB will disallow the trade. Fact is, they allowed the Jeter Group to buy the team and watch as they immediately tried to make the team worse. Never saw that before. I always thought that one of the requirements for new ownership is to have the liquidity to run the franchise. I guess MLB looked the other way in order to get Jeter in the Owners Club. I think this definitely needs to be investigated. This deal is so much worse than the rumored Giants/Cards offers. Jeter will always be a Yankee
  2. Ditto... actually I've never watched it
  3. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 06:42 PM) Surprised nobody was able to sneak me in here....only player I hated more than Tyler Flowers was Avi Garcia And, ironically, both are now valuable players
  4. Just because he plays a lot doesn't mean he's not injured.... he has played through lots that other players would take games off for, sometimes for weeks at a time.
  5. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 02:12 PM) At least we know it should be done by the 22nd. I think he'll decide in the next few days, although I know he could technically wait until the 22nd
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) CarGo is Gonzalez According to baseball-reference, it's both players' nickname. https://www.baseball-reference.com/search/s...p;pid=&idx=
  7. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) There is nothing in Boston's farm that is worth Abreu at this point. If I was Hahn, they'd have to get my attention by offering either Benintendi or Devers straight up, or I'd tell Dombrowski to go pay JD Martinez and pound sand. That's basically what he did, and that's why we're not talking to Boston about Abreu anymore. The thread title isn't updated
  8. One more thing I forgot: Sox sign Addison Reed for 4 years, 34 mil
  9. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 09:53 AM) I do not see the point one bit at extending him if it is going to cost that much.. Can someone give me a reason why extending a 33 year old 1st basement for 20 million makes sense? Just wait till his contract is up and extend him then if he is producing at 20 mil a year He's 30.
  10. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 09:44 AM) I think his comment implies extension. That was my intention, sorry if I was unclear. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 09:46 AM) I think if we put a decent 3 to 5 year deal in front of him, he would sign it. Everything you hear is how much he likes it here, and how much he is liked here. Even if his bat fades at the end of a deal, his money wouldn't cripple the team where they would be in the rebuild and overall salary structure. Plus even if he does fade, he is still like having another coach on the bench and the kids seem to love him. I agree. I think something like 4/80 or 5/95 would get it done.
  11. A. Garcia traded for one back-end top 100 guy and a couple minor pieces, Abreu stays, a few minor moves made (a Kevan Smith trade, for example)
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 09:18 AM) Then the only question I have left to ask is...what are you going to do to make sure Abreu doesn't walk after 2019? Barring any major changes, I find that very unlikely. He seems to express his desire to stay in Chicago for life every time he's interviewed.
  13. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 06:15 PM) I'm going Thursday for this exact reason. Same. Don't know if I posted this here, but TFA got spoiled for me on a Derrick Rose YouTube highlight video comment section. The top comment about highlights from a 29 point performance was " ". This was after I had avoided Twitter, Facebook, etc. all day. :/
  14. QUOTE (Quin @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 03:10 PM) Yeah, Kelly would necessitate trading one of Omar or Smith, if not both. I'd focus on Flaherty, Perez and an OF Definitely both, given that we'd have Castillo/Kelly in the Majors and Collins/Zavala ready relatively soon. It's just not a position of need at this point.
  15. If we traded for Kelly, why not eventually flip one of Collins/Zavala for pitching? Or, even include one in the Kelly deal to maximize the return. I personally think the trade would be redundant, as Collins is a fine prospect, but pulling the trigger would cause a prospect logjam.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 3, 2017 -> 06:15 PM) Well do the Sox even have a beat reporter to ask Hahn? Dan Hayes would've tweeted by now!
  17. Evan Grant‏Verified account @Evan_P_Grant I think only clubs being told they are out are commenting on Ohtani. Jon Daniels has made no comment. Take that as you wish.
  18. Jon Heyman‏Verified account @JonHeyman sounded like it's west coast heavy as mentioned. that probably bodes well for both LA teams. when we say smaller market, we just may mean smaller than ny.
  19. "Or a smaller market"... not "and"... maybe we're still in it?
  20. Jon Heyman‏Verified account @JonHeyman haven't heard yanks are officially out, but ohtani is telling teams he prefers a smaller market. which could bode well for twins, mariners, padres, pirates, etc.
