Abreu trade "unlikely"
QUOTE (ron883 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 07:06 PM) .871 with poor defense at 1st base. Good, but not great. Let's take a look at his 1st half stats from the two previous years. 2015: .296/.343/.492/.835 2016: .272/.326/.430/.756 Not too bad in 2015. But still, from a 1B with poor defense, not too impressive. Look at 2016. BAD. The dude stunk up the 1st half of the season. He is a notoriously slow starter. I think waiting until midseason has the potential to tank his value. You never know if father time catches up to him soon. Maximize his value and trade him THIS offseason. I'll be sad to see him go, but the sox have a chance to cash in on a slugger who may or may not be part of our contending teams. Remember, the sox can always resign him if he is still effective two years from now. Hell, he will probably get offered a job by the sox when he retires. In 2017, among qualified first basemen, Abreu ranked 10th in UZR/150 and 4th in RZR. Wouldn't call that defense "poor". I'd say, over his entire career, it's slightly below average at worst. Source

Abreu trade "unlikely"
QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 03:49 PM) Fangraphs warns Sawks to not trade JBJ for Abreu. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/dont-trade-...for-jose-abreu/ Over the last three years, Bradley and Abreu have produced roughly equivalent WAR totals despite Bradley getting 600 fewer plate appearances. Abreu’s clearly a better hitter, but there’s a huge gap in baserunning value, so the offensive difference has only been about worth 10 runs per 600 PAs, and Bradley’s outstanding defense in center field is clearly worth more than Abreu’s mediocre defense at first base. Bradley’s WAR isn’t inflated by some huge UZR numbers either; in fact, the public perception is that Bradley is more valuable defensively than our fielding numbers suggest. Wow, I really disagree with the weighting of those statistics. Sure, Bradley is the superior baserunner, but I don't think it's so extreme to the point where Abreu is only barely the more valuable hitter.

Abreu trade "unlikely"
QUOTE (ron883 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) Can't argue with what Hahn is doing here. Jose has value right now. Jose is historically a slow starter. You don't wait until the deadline when his value is low due to the predictable crap ass start to the season. Jose's value is higher now than it will ever be again IMO. Ship him out of here and see what type of return you can get. At the 2017 trade deadline, Abreu was hitting .295/.351/.521/.871 with 19 home runs. But go on, keep embarrassing yourself.

Moncada's post translates to something like: Happy to play alongside Abreu again, he has always been an example for me and I am very thankful for all he has done for me

IMO we could just be helping them posture in the Stanton talks.

This sucks if it's for JBJ as the centerpiece. I am not changing my name to Jackie Bradley Jr.

Cafardo: White Sox Likely to Pursue JBJ
Hard pass... sure he's solid defensively but he strikes out a lot and is a very inconsistent hitter. Not worth it, especially when we have plenty of outfield prospects.
