QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 3, 2013 -> 08:09 PM) Not only is it "harsh", but it's also incorrect....He only gave up 7 runs. I'm sure there's been worse starters in Chicagos history, but ya, he was pretty bad, and there's probably no way he's brought back. Agreed. Also love how that sounds: "he only gave up seven runs!"

Pretty harsh reviews on Axelrod's wikipedia page. We know he won't be back, but sheesh. "In 2013, Axelrod was a starter for the first half of the season. He was decent, but his season spiraled out of control in mid-June. After being moved to the bullpen in order to make room for the sensational Hector Santiago, his ERA increased at a rapid measure, and by mid-September, he was considered by many Chicago fans to be the worst pitcher in White Sox history. After that, Axelrod made a spot-start for the injured Andre Rienzo, only to allow twelve runs in two innings. Axelrod is not expected to be resigned by Chicago in the offseason."

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 3, 2013 -> 06:44 AM) Rasmus has averaged 138 games per year over his career, and that includes many games where LaRussa sat him just because he didn't like him (which has been well documented). He has never had any injury problems except for this year. Have any other arguments against Rasmus that you need disproven? In 2011 he only played in 129 games- 35 of which were with the Blue Jays. He missed 15 Blue Jay games because of injury.
-
Ok fine (about their defense) but keep in mind you're getting Rasmus for 135 games and Markakis for 162 (except one year).
-
Screw WAR, I'll take Markakis over Rasmus any day. Rasmus is too injury-prone and lacks defense. Markakis is solid all around

QUOTE (Leonard of Berwyn @ Sep 28, 2013 -> 10:21 PM) How about Trumbo and Hank Conger for John Danks and Tyler Flowers? I'd do that in a heartbeat

My ideal yet unrealistic team- Transactions- CF Grady Sizemore signed to 3 year/ 30 million dollar deal. I have no idea if the price is too high or low, but coming off an injury I'd have to imagine he's not looking for 5/90. LHP Hector Santiago traded to Angels for 1B/DH/3B Mark Trumbo. RHP Gavin Floyd re-signed for 1 year/ 3 million dollars. This is to give some younger arms a bit more time in the minors. RHP Jesse Crain signed for 2 years/ 9 million. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia signed for 2 years/ 5 million. Rotation 1. Sale 2. Quintana 3. Danks 4. Floyd 5. Johnson Bullpen Reed Crain Veal Vance Webb Jones Minor League Starter such as Rienzo or Leesman to handle long relief C- Salty 1B- Trumbo 2B- Beckham 3B- Keppinger SS- Ramirez LF- Viciedo CF- Sizemore RF- Garcia Bench Notables- Flowers Jordan Danks Semien Gillaspie

Allow me to make a leap. Starting center fielder- Grady Sizemore.
-
Also Addy Reed 40 saves

Sox win! No 100 losses for us! Set off the fireworks! :D

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 05:39 PM) And a better FIP. And xFIP. And WAR. And SIERA. There are plenty of things that will say "Chris Sale was better this year compared to last year." Of course, I knew that, but most people tend to look at it in this order- wins, losses, ERA, strikeouts, whip. Only the smarter more modern-minded fans are aware of the new stats.
-
Of course he'd be angrier than me. I'm not denying that
-
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Sep 27, 2013 -> 04:48 PM) He'll probably be even angrier than you. I could pretty much care less. I got over my anger about anything concerning this miserable season well over a month ago. He's pitched significantly better this year than last, and if his ERA is identical or worse then last year, he won't have much to show for it except for WHIP
-
Why is Kevin Vance being left out of all the bullpens?
-
If Sale finishes with a 3.05 ERA or more I'm gonna be so angry

Can someone please tell me what happened? I've been in a meeting all day and I'm sneaking this under the table -
SN- If Miami gets Rodon... deadly 1-2 punch along with Fernandez. Damn

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Sep 26, 2013 -> 10:20 PM) Still obscenely early, but I'll throw out an Alex Jackson. Never too premature to start familiarizing yourself with names/players/positions. Like his resume but I don't want him as catcher, would prefer outfield or third base (his other positions). Not that we have a good catcher but because I don't want him to have a shortened career/decreased batting numbers due to catching. Example Joe Mauer hits .12 points better when he's 1B/DH instead of C
-
Now the question is, who do we pick? Rodon probably off the table

How about instead we try to enjoy the last series of the year?

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 26, 2013 -> 07:06 AM) Axelrod's ERA+ is 75 and Keppinger's OPS+ is 62. That wasn't my rationale for every grade, but relative to the norms for their positions, Keppinger was much more of a failure. Oh ok, because I looked at it more as how many games did they lose us, and it was something like Axe 14, Kep 12 (0-4/0-5 games)

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 26, 2013 -> 06:59 AM) Only graded 25 players: A: Sale, Crain A-: AGarcia, Quintana, Lindstrom B+: Rios, Santiago, Reed B: Dunn, Peavy, Thornton B-: Viciedo, DeAza, DanksI, Jones C+: Gillaspie C: Beckham, DanksII, Veal C-: Konerko, Ramirez D+: Axelrod D: Keppinger D-: Flowers, Phegley how did Axelrod do better than Keppinger...
