Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
BlackSox13 replied to blackmooncreeping's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 24, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) What kind of package could we see to get Ethier? I was wondering the same thing. I posted an article yesterday in the Ethier thread that mentioned the Dodgers would have to eat some money in order to trade him due to Ethier being used in a platoon last year. I'd guess the less money the Sox expect with Ethier the less the Sox would have to give up for him. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 24, 2016 -> 10:13 AM) this is some what interesting...... http://www.southsidesox.com/2016/1/23/1081...ns-undetermined what i also found very interesting is a snippet near the end of talks of a NL dh...... That article is not being fair at all to the Sox. Gordon wanted to stay in KC, Cespedes wanted to stay in NY, Upton didn't want to play for the Sox and the Sox had no chance at Heyward with his roughly 200M price tag. The Cards and Nat's are rumored to have offered more than the cubs but Heyward chose the cubs. What else could the Sox have done, lol? The problem is not that the Sox were unable to sign one of those four outfielders, the problem is that Sox fans assumed that the Sox would sign one of those outfielders. Bad assumption. I usually enjoy Margalus' writings but the whiny undertone in the article is a bit much. I understand the frustration but fans need to keep their expectations in perspective too.

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jan 24, 2016 -> 12:39 AM) How many outfielders do the Dodgers need? Jesus. Lol, no kidding. The Dodgers have enough pitchers and outfielders for two teams. Supposedly the Dodgers are interested in Fowler because he is a good lead off bat with his speed and OBP but unless the Dodgers move Ethier or Crawford to make room for Fowler, I think they go with Micah leading off. -
Dexter Fowler as a secondary option

http://www.todaysknuckleball.com/around-th...h-negotiations/ This is about the only Fowler news I could find. Imo,it's a gamble ( like Desmond) to give up a pick just to sign a player to a one year deal. If the player tanks, the team is screwed once the player becomes a FA again. If the Sox are still interested in Fowler, I hope it's for a multi year contract. Otherwise, the search continues. -

QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 08:52 PM) I remember Bowden said a week ago that he asked the Cubs about Fowler and they wouldnt answer him. He thinks they've definitely moved on. As of right now the cubs have 153.5M committed to 18 players and that does not include Arrieta or filling out the roster with league minimum players. By the time the cubs fill out the roster and settle with Arrieta, they will probably end up in the 165-167M range. That leaves them plenty of cap space but that doesn't mean they have or are willing to spend the money for Fowler. Bowden might be right since this is Fowler's chance at a nice payday that should bring him security for the 3 years or so. -

http://www.tampabay.com/sports/baseball/ra...n-moves/2262481 Sounds like the Rays could be a Debbie downer with regards to the cubs interest in bringing back Fowler, then again so could the Dodgers' suspected interest in Fowler. -
QUOTE (scs787 @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 06:55 PM) What's going on with Alexei Bell and Yadiel Hernandez? Will either be available before the season? Could be worth taking a look see. He's got a showcase February 23rd and is waiting for the MLB to clear his FA status. Sounds as though he could be available just in time for ST.

http://www.latimes.com/sports/dodgers/dodg...0119-story.html I figured I would bump this since Ethier's name has been mentioned more lately. If Dilbeck is right and the Dodgers would willing to eat a significant portion of Ethier's salary, the Sox and Dodgers could match up again in a trade. Over the last few days I've seen some articles written about the Dodgers interest in Fowler as a lead off bat so they could be motivated. For those that might be interested in Ethier, care to take a stab at what the Sox would need to offer? I'm guessing the less money the Sox ask for the less they will have to give up.

QUOTE (captain54 @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 01:03 PM) two more things: 1) About 90% of the human population that uses a computer and is regularly online, is on Facebook.. if you chose not to go that route and tap into all that info, that's not my problem. 2) you put in a request to join the group.. there are 100's or 1000's of members.. its not some elite selective thing Ha ha, I never said I wasn't on Facebook. You're missing the point. You are trying to discuss a topic in detail without sharing the details with people that are apparently not in that group or care to join the group or possibly not on facebook where the topic originated. So to those that aren't privy to the info, its just hearsay and nothing more. I don't doubt Cooper may have had some exchanges with fans on Facebook but I also know that there are fans that are too uptight and pretentious as well. Some fans just have a thin skin. Fans need to remember that were talking about social media so we all have opinions and sometimes were going to read things we may or may not agree with. What's ironic to me is that some fans of their favorite Baseball team spoke negatively about their favorite Baseball team to a member of the coaching staff and then instantly play the role of victim when the member of the coaching staff responds back. We are fans that are entitled to our opinions but so are the people we criticize. If fans don't like what they hear then maybe they should consider what they say and who they are saying things to before they open their mouths in the first place. You get what you put out there. Did the fans ever stop to consider what kind of response they might get before they opened their mouths? Obviously not. I have gripes just like any other fan and I'm not afraid to voice my frustrations here on SoxTalk but I don't take to social media and directly rip the people that run the team or its coaching staff that I'm a fan of. Too many fans get so self absorbed that they they think they know more than the people running the team and yet fail to realize they don't know dick because if they did they would have a job in baseball. Some fans are just miserable assholes, period. If what Cooper supposedly said is true, I agree with him. If someone doesn't like the way things are done then they can either accept the FO really is doing their best or they should find a new team. I hear the Marlins have a really swell fan friendly team owner...

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 12:50 PM) I think he is Jeff Samardzija. Oh no, please tell me you are joking. I , I, I just couldn't take it if that were true!

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 12:31 PM) You all are a bit rough on poor Caufield. Ouch! Actually,I'm fine with Caulfield and have enjoyed discussions with him plenty of times. Caulfield is known to take extended breaks here and there and since the Sox are rumored to have interest in Desmond, its seemed like the logical choice.

QUOTE (captain54 @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 12:10 PM) With all due respect, couldn't be further from the truth.. I didn't even start this thread.. I just looked it up myself when I heard about it and posted it on another board..another poster read it there just passed that along here… Do you really think I have the time to document this whole thing when it's easily available online for anyone to read? C.mon.. Two things. 1) you're talking about a closed group on Facebook so its not easily available to those not in the group. 2) not everyone is on Facebook.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 12:13 PM) What happens first, Desmond signs or Caulfield returns? Hmmmmm, I have no idea but I'll guess Desmond signs. I base this on how the Sox seem interested and that Desmond has seemingly no interest from any team but the Sox. Are the Sox still rumored to be interested in Desmond?

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 11:53 AM) if you don't mind, using known assets to help the team now.... to win to improve and to obtain other assets. i would hate to loose him, but helping this team ...... now .... is more important for me. It has to be the right player. I wouldn't use Anderson in a trade for players like CarGo, Ethier, Blackmon etc but I would use him to trade for a long term team controlled outfielder like the players I named. Even then, that's pretty much based on if the Sox not only signed Desmond but signed him to a multi-year contract. If Desmond was only for one season then the Sox keep Anderson. I still remain open to the idea of trading Anderson for his OF minor league equivalent though.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 11:52 AM) Here's my plan. - Trade Avi and Tyler Danish for Carlos Gomez - Sign Ian Desmond to a 3 year/$45 million deal Lineup: 1. Adam Eaton (RF) 2. Carlos Gomez (CF) 3. Jose Abreu (1B) 4. Todd Frazier (3B) 5. Melky Cabrera (LF) 6. Ian Desmond (SS) 7. Adam LaRoche (DH) 8. Brett Lawrie (2B) 9. Alex Avila/Dioner Navarro © Thoughts? That lineup seems pretty well rounded from top to bottom IMO. I seriously doubt Houston would have interest in Avi. They have enough outfielders and DH's as it is to be honest. Plus, I think Houston is looking to trade an outfielder for another starting pitcher to help them this year so I doubt Danish would peak their interest either.

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 11:44 AM) I haven't thrown a temper tantrum yet, but signing Fowler would send me over the edge. No worries, the cubs will take care of that.
-
QUOTE (captain54 @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 11:48 AM) No dude.. Do the research yourself and look it up.. That's just it, I don't see it being an issue worth looking into or making a stink over. My point is that you want to discuss the issue without providing the info needed to have a proper discussion. To be honest, you're coming across as just spamming SoxTalk to get members to join the Facebook group where Cooper supposedly had these exchanges with some fans.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 11:31 AM) Why is everyone so quick to want to trade Anderson? Lol He is the one position player we have in the minors that looks promising. It's not about being quick to trade Anderson, well, not with me. My thinking is that if the Sox were to sign Desmond, they would have two legit short stops in Desmond and Saladino with a shortage of OF depth. Trading Anderson for his OF equivalent would make sense for a team like the Sox in this scenerio. The only reason I would entertain the idea would be if the Sox signed Desmond to a 2-3 year contract. Another example I would be open to trading Anderson would be for young team controlled outfielders like Ender Inciarte or Preston Tucker. Trust me, I'm in no rush to trade Anderson but am open minded to trading him for the right outfielder to fill a position of need/depth.

QUOTE (captain54 @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 11:30 AM) Because I'm not obligated to provide information that is easily attainable online.. or prove anything to anyone.. Go to the Sox Pride and Passion FB group and the Donny Cooper FB page and do the research yourself, if you are so inclined.. My guess is that you'll figure out a way to poke holes in it either way. So you expect people to take you at your word?

QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 11:07 AM) Lock at 400? Absolutely. It won't take much useless spamming, trolling and thread derailing to make it happen. Take post #5965 for example.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) There isn't nearly enough petulant temper tantrum in this post. I am going to ignore these facts and rant on. No worries. These things blow over pretty quick after folks find something new to rant about. I'll just go ahead and say that Dexter Fowler will be the next rant victim for some Sox fans.

An alternative idea could be to sign Jackson and Desmond, then trade Anderson for his outfield minor league equivalent. Something like Anderson to Milwaukee for Brett Phillips. I know Milwaukee has Arcia but they could always slide Anderson over to 2B. That said, I have no idea if the Brewers would be interested in such a deal, just using the Brewers and Phillips as an example.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) Can we stop acting like because we missed out on the Big 3 that all of Hahn's plans fail to come to fruition? He targeted Lawrie and Frazier and got those done. What was he supposed to do here? There was no way we were going to pry away Gordon or Cespedes unless we grossly overpaid, and Upton didn't want to come here. +1!
-
QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Jan 23, 2016 -> 10:06 AM) Are you kidding? We really couldn't match the Mets offer for Cespedes? Honestly, what was the point in even trading for Frazier if not to actually try and field a full roster capable of making the playoffs? We have the worst outfield in the league. The point of trading for Frazier was to improve the 3B position, which they did. I'm happy as hell the Sox aren't the team that signed Cespedes to that crazy contract. The Mets can have him. There are plenty of outfielders available on the trade market. It's won't be difficult finding an upgrade over Avi's sorry ass.
