Does this mean we won't be seeing an Avi Garcia trade? I heard that Everett will be giving a biblical lecture about dinosaurs.

Gerardo Parra signs with Rockies, 3 yrs 27.5mil

http://www.denverpost.com/rockies/ci_29370...cluding-rockies "There has been speculation that Parra, a free agent who began his career with Arizona, is seeking a three-year deal in the neighborhood of $24 million, but Mijares would only say that his client wants a three-year contract. Mijares added that he hopes to have a decision "within the next few days." If 3/24M is true, I am all aboard the sign Parra bandwagon! Somehow, I think he gets more than that though. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 12:52 PM) Looks like it's only a 3 year deal Follow Patrick SaundersVerified account @psaundersdp Gerardo Parra's agent says he's looking for 3-year deal. #Rockies one of three teams in the mix. Hopes for decision soon. Uh oh.... QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 12:52 PM) I bet it's the Angels for 3 years and $30 million. You may be right, I may be crazy! Parra looking for a 3 year deal has me even more curious how. I wonder if the Sox have moved on from Upton/Cespedes due to their demands and would rather sign a 2nd tier OF FA while there's still a selection to choose from. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 12:39 PM) Predictions on his contract? I'll say 3/$28M. I think he'll do better to be honest. I'll say 4/44-48M. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 12:25 PM) Chris Cotillo hints that the Angels are one of the other teams, So, it's between the Rockies, Angels, and the dreaded #MysteryTeam, The Angels make alot of sense. As for the mystery team, its hard to pinpoint who that it. The Sox, Cards, Astros, Orioles as well as others could fit into the mix. -

Curious where this leads to if CO signs Parra. I don't see the Sox getting CarGo but still curious to see where he lands. Also curious about the other two teams involved for Parra, whom BTW comes with no comp pick attached. I've been on the fence with Parra but at this point I prefer him over Fowler. -
I think Upton would be stupid to turn down a 3/4 year deal. If he accepted such a deal he could re-enter the FA market at age 31/32 and get a big payday that should carry him well into his regression years. Another point is the inflation that will happen over the next 3-4 years will only enhance Upton's next contract. Despite the Sox farm being rather thin, I still think that in the end they pull off a trade of some sort.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 10, 2016 -> 10:15 PM) The problem there is they would have no desire to add another outfielder in Garcia, especially in "win now" mode and not having the luxury of any more development years from their players...just depends on how desperate they are to rid themselves of Singleton I guess. Good point. Astros have too many outfielders and the Sox have too many DH's. In the end, I seriously doubt there's a match between the two teams but what can I say, I'm bored why I wait for all this to sort out.

Lmfao! This thread was started on December 13th, is just shy of being a month old and is over 150 pages long, yet we still have no clue what's going with Cespedes.

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jan 10, 2016 -> 07:04 PM) I think any trade talk starting with the Sox would almost immediately revolve around Anderson or Fulmer. Teams would be stupid to not at least try. Doesn't mean that's a fair deal, but I can't see any team not attempt to pry either away. I hear ya and if I was the Astros GM I'd ask for the same thing. Personally, I wouldn't give up Anderson or Fulmer for Marisnick but I'd be open to ideas outside of those two. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 10, 2016 -> 07:20 PM) Well, on one hand, the Astros just drafted Tucker's brother as well, right? They might want to keep them together like the Sox did with the Danks brothers, or sell high on Tucker if they perceive him more as a 4th outfielder than regular going forward. If they can't trade Rasmus due to the QO being accepted, that only leaves Marisnick and Springer's obviously not going anywhere. The only way to possibly make it work without trading top pieces is also taking on Singleton's contract, seemingly. Wow, I forgot about Singleton. Call me crazy but I'd take a chance on him and his contract. Dude is making chump change. Problem with taking on Singleton is that Melky stays in LF unless the Sox/Astros worked LaRoche into the deal somehow. Maybe Avi/ Guerrero/LaRoche + cash for Marisnick/Singleton? Hell if I know.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 10, 2016 -> 05:42 PM) Who do you think the Sox would have to trade to get Marisnick? I'd like him for sure as a Gold Glove quality defender in CF. In 2012, Marisnick was rated as the 35th overall prospect and from what I've been reading is still considered a potential 5 tool player. Might cost more than Adams? I really have no idea.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 10, 2016 -> 05:52 PM) Probably Adams...if you're Houston, with an already deep system, nobody else will get your attention. Limited upside offensively...but that defense. Of course, by that argument, why not just hold onto Trayce Thompson? Thompson helped net the Sox Frazier and the Dodgers wanted Thompson for his RHB to potentially platoon CF with Pederson. If Houston wanted Adams for Marisnick I'd have a hard time saying no. I think Marisnick has some power left in his 6'4" frame. I wonder if the Astros would do Avi + Danish or Guerrero? Probably not but ya never know.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 10, 2016 -> 04:56 PM) That's the situation where we end up with Tucker, Marisnick or Rasmus instead... You read my mind, although I don't think Rasmus can be traded at this point due to his accepting the QO. I know Tucker would cost an arm and a leg and don't really see a potential match but I think Marisnick could be had, not sure for what though. I wouldn't mind a trade for Marisnick to play CF, sign Cespedes for LF, move Eaton to RF, Melky becomes the DH. That would be defensively upgrading all three OF positions.

This sounds more like the Astros kicking the tires but ya never know if they trade one of their outfielders. http://houseofhouston.com/2016/01/08/houst...nd-ian-desmond/ "The Houston Astros have had preliminary discussions with both Justin Upton and Ian Desmond according to Evan Drellich (Houston Chronicle)." "Upton is a big name, but the Astros currently have their outfield and DH set. Luhnow could look into trading an outfielder to open up a spot for a guy like Upton, but at this point it’s likely the Astros stand still unless they find a way to get creative." Ya know, the Sox need to get "creative" and the Astros need to get "creative" so why not get "creative" together?

Interesting perspective from a Rockies fan POV. I don't think it's any one particular thing keeping Colorado from trading CarGo but I'd venture to guess their FO is over valuing CarGo in a market full of OF options. http://www.purplerow.com/2016/1/10/1071374...lb-trade-rumors "Colorado Rockies trade rumors: A number of things could be delaying a Carlos Gonzalez deal"

Sounds like the Tigers are taking a similar stance like the Sox. Interesting in that no team, as of yet, is willing to commit to a long term deal for Cespedes. https://detroitjockcity.com/2016/01/10/detr...ding-to-report/ "One major league source indicated that Cespedes is a hot topic within the Tigers organization and the reaction is split." "One possibility that would keep all of the offseason reports consistent would be if the Tigers are considering Cespedes, but only if his value slips to the point of accepting a short-term deal. They’re not going to get themselves into a bidding war, but he would fill a need at the right price."

QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 10, 2016 -> 12:08 PM) How long would this business be open and not bankrupt? About as long as it takes for smart Baseball fans to find a new favorite team. So, not long at all. That said, Jose Reyes is a TRUE hero! Bet the house on it.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 10, 2016 -> 01:44 PM) .691 OPS, with high K and low OBP.....for a #1 starter. How about for E Johnson...maybe I'd do that, doubt Miami would. I think Miami is just entertaining the idea on the off chance a team is willing to over pay. It would be smarter to take a chance on hoping he rebounds this year and then put him on the market next winter when there's less outfielders on the market.

QUOTE (Saufley @ Jan 10, 2016 -> 12:07 PM) I'm with you on this one BlackSox13. Right on. I will admit that advanced stats say Desmond is a small upgrade over Alexei but the only SS that had more errors than Desmond (27) was Semien (35). Desmond has positive range whereas Alexei is negative but Desmond is negative in throwing whereas Alexei is positive. Meh, I'll roll the dice with Saladino. For anyone interested : http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...=&players=0

While I like the idea of Ozuna and was all for trading for him at the beginning of the off season, I've moved on. I think the Marlins will get the price they seek for Ozuna and I don't think the Sox have enough left if they don't include one of Fulmer/Anderson. Imo, Ozuna to the SOX ain't happening.
-
Well, Chuck got it half right in that Cespedes being a part of a dream scenario. I'd rather let Saladino to man SS and let some other team (SD) sign Desmond. Desmond's error total has increased in each of the last three years and maxed out at 27 in '15. No thanks! Instead of spending in the area of 10M on Desmond, spend it on another starting pitcher or see if the Sox can sign one of Fowler or Jackson for that kind of annual salary.

ESPN forgot to add Avisail Garcia to the breakout list. Must have been an error of some sort.

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 04:23 PM) Plus Upton costs a pick. A 1-yr deal is dumb. Yep, agreed. And unless we can be sure Jacob May will be ready in '17 or that Engel miraculously goes from A+ in '15 to being MLB ready by the end of '16, the outfield search will continue again next off season with less available options at a more costly price. Now is the time to secure an outfielder for the next 2-4 years, IMHO.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 04:00 PM) No but he isn't and wasn't blocking anyone either. Things change in 4 years. Things change in 3 years. The White Sox have no position players on their roster that were on the team on opening day 2013. Overpaying just to overpay is fine if you have a $300 million payroll and could just suck up the $25 million or so in 3 or 4 years, but the White Sox aren't that team. Maybe the ultimate price means they have to go 4 years, but it doesn't make sense for them to go there until they have to. Neither Lillian nor myself said anything about overpaying for a FA. In fact, I agree and have said more than once that I think Hahn is doing the right thing by not offering more than 3 years to players that have not been offered more than 3 years and also that I feel the Sox are willing to go 4 years if necessary. The Sox offering 3 years to players seeking 5+ years is simply negotiating and posturing. I don't buy the "Sox only willing to go 3 years" nonsense one bit and believe it's purposely leaked PR bulls*** by either the Sox FO trying to gain leverage or the agent trying to make the Sox look cheap in an effort to apply pressure on the Sox publically by making them look cheap. As you and I both have pointed out, the Sox have offered 4+ year contracts in the past so there's no reason to believe that all of the sudden they are unwilling to do so now, if necessary and within reason.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 9, 2016 -> 03:46 PM) Who is John Danks blocking. I am sure you wouldn't mind if the Sox obligation to him was at least one year less. The fact is these guys might suck in 3 years, and as of now, there I are some nice looking free agent targets in 3 years. There is no reason to be locked into a player longer than needed. Uh, Lillian never said anything about Danks.
