QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 09:38 PM) Bingo. Rick Hahn is a helluva poker player. Yes he is. He's a magic man! Why do I hear Ann Wilson's voice as I type this?

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 10:46 PM) If he's referring to me, it doesn't make sense. I'm just throwing out that another team could possibly be a fit. Just because I said it doesn't mean I think it'll definitely happen. I believe in Hahn to get one if Upton and Cespedes. Well, I'm in agreement with you cause I see the Jays as a much bigger threat than the Nat's before they traded for Revere. As you said, Toronto has an open corner in the OF and seemingly money to burn. Also, they take pride in their powerful offense so it wouldn't be surprising if they added a big bat to an already big offense. As you said, not saying they will add a big bat but I'm not ruling them out and in fact I think they are a player in the Cespedes/Upton sweepstakes after the Revere trade.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 10:34 PM) Keep f***ing doubting Rick Hahn and Kenny Williams. Who's doubting Hahn and KW?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 10:17 PM) Not signing Price opened up this possibility, fwiw. Imagine that line-up with one more power bat. Blocking Pompey won't stand in the way of a super team if they can make the numbers work. The brewery certainly wants to sustain the financial success and bandwagon that kicked off last July. Yep, gotta agree. They could sign a big bat and trade Pompey for a comparable young starting pitcher. I definitely would not over-look the Jays at this point and the kicker is they are not afraid of long term commitments.

Just my speculation but I wonder if Toronto is the mystery team? Salary commitments to 10 players = 99.6M Arbitration projections for 8 players= 26.5M Minimum salary for 6 players @500k= 3M+ Toronto's total payroll for 24 players not including Revere sits at about 129M so they have room for one of Cespedes/Upton and I'd venture to guess they could have the money since they were a playoff team and made a few extra bucks.

Never really considered Washington much of a threat but the good news is they are a zero threat now. Horrible year to be a FA outfielder ( excluding Heyward). Too many sellers, not enough buyers, too many rebuilding teams, too many teams pushing their payroll limits and other teams simply don't need an outfielder. It's a great time for the Sox to be buyers though!

Looks like the Nat's found their LHB for CF.

Trade targets: who is available and at what cost?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 09:07 PM) They just signed Carter for $2.5 million and incentives. Pedro Alvarez is still out there. LaRoche is stuck for better or worse. But Pedro Alvarez will not get a rebuilding Brewers team out from under 90M in salary commitments over the next five years. This based on the idea the Brewers would be interested in trading Braun in the first place which is what were talking about. -
QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 09:01 PM) He's playing the market perfectly or so it seems. Kudos to Hahn, I love the fact he's the polar opposite of KW and has patience when trying to make deals - even if it causes us to go out of our minds for waiting around. Agreed. Hahn is doing the right thing and lets not forget what he said after the winter meetings, they have many irons in the fire. Seeing how the outfield market has opened up so much, Heyward was smart signing early. I'm amazed at the amount of outfielders available through FA and trades now. Imo, the OF trade market is kind of hurting free agents like Cespedes and Upton. Plus, it helps when big spenders like Boston, NYY and Dodgers are out of the loop.

QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 08:49 PM) If the Brewers send a truckload of cash AND take Laroche...maybe I would take on the contract if it meant the Sox could unload LaRoche and limit the prospect quality the Brewers would seek in return, iow, they can't have Anderson or Fulmer. -

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 08:47 PM) Ryan Braun anyone (probably costs too much) "Brewers “would not hesitate” to trade Ryan Braun | HardballTalk" via http://TeamStre.am by Bleacher Report http://teamstre.am/1IViYBE I would take Braun in a second but like you said, he probably costs too much. Doubtful the Sox would be willing to part with what the Brewers would desire in a trade. Still yet, fun thought to ponder over. -
As time goes on and more rumors surface, the White Sox stance makes much more sense. The Sox know there's realistically less than a handful of teams that can pony up the money or have the need for players such as Cespedes/ Upton and that there are also numerous options available on the trade market. IMHO, Hahn is playing this perfect. I know the waiting game really sucks but I think when all is said and done, most Sox fans will be happy with what Hahn pulls off. Even if its not Cespedes or Upton. We as fans need to keep in mind that we really don't know the discussions Hahn is having in the FA/trade markets so all we can do is trust that Hahn will add a solid upgrade to the OF.

QUOTE (coco1997 @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 05:28 PM) Wouldn't be the first time the Sox acquired an alleged wife beater. Remember Brett Myers? You cannot be serious. This is your justification for the idea of trading for Reyes? Forget that Reyes could likely serve a suspension. Forget Reyes is owed 48M including an '18 buyout. Forget that Reyes is declining. Forget Anderson should be ready before Reyes' current contract expires. f*** Reyes, he's the Rockies problem.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 06:14 PM) This is equally likely. Raymond Reddington pilfered the new $100 bill printing plates and paid back JR for a past favor. Catch me if you can!

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 05:06 PM) Nobody wants Adam LaRoche. Nobody wants Jose Reyes. Yep. I'll take one year of LaRoche at 13M and hope for the best instead 2 years 48M of Reyes wife abusing ass. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 05:10 PM) I strongly disagree. Absolutely agree! QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 05:10 PM) Also, where are people getting the idea that we may get both Cespedes and Gonzalez? Apparently they have the inside scoop to White Sox finances or JR is playing with Monopoly money.
-
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 05:02 PM) Why would anyone want Jose Reyes? Glad I'm not the only asking that question. I'm all for playing fantasy arm-chair GM but come on!
-
A few questions. 1) why in the hell would Colorado want LaRoche? 2) why in the hell would the Sox want a declining Reyes, his 22M annual salary through '17 and his domestic violence nonsense? 3) with so many outfielders on the market, why the hell would the Sox give up one of Anderson/Fulmer?
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 01:15 PM) Reds supposedly needed one of Fullmer / Anderson for Frazier. Rumors are what they are. I guarantee Sox and Rocks have talked and will continue to talk from time to time on their outfielders (given our need). I can't imagine a scenario where Hahn and Kenny are entirely focused on one guy. Just not the reality of things (and it isn't as if their is one guy who is hands down the better option, imo). I'm sure they have preferences though, but the situation is fluid and they do not control the situation, so those preferences probably change depending on market circumstances. I forget who but a writer had said yesterday that the Sox had been in contact with Colorado about the asking price of their outfielders and Hahn said after the winter meetings that he had many irons in the fire. I definitely see where you're coming from although I don't think the Sox match up in a trade for CarGo as long as Colorado's asking price is along the lines of Q.
-
Where does Desmond's suspected defense come from? His range? Desmond's errors have been steadily Ascending the last three years up to 27 in '15. Much rather see what Saladino has to offer and spend the money elsewhere.
-
Just guessing but I think the Sox have moved on since Colorado asked for Q in return. That's the rumor anyway...
-
I like option #4. Cespedes/Saladino/SP.

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 01:53 PM) Start getting ready to have that thought all the time my friend. I would imagine everyone on here has these thoughts as you watch yourself age in comparison to players. Age 16-18: You start seeing those real young prospects and have the moment you just did where you are shocked that these guys are younger than you, but have so much potential. Age 19-22: You start seeing some of the superstar prospects make appearances in the major leagues and you start to wonder why you never were better at baseball. Age 23-26: You see most of the guys who make it to MLB come up and it hits you even though it was always obvious. You will never play in the major leagues. You'll stop having daydream fantasies about somehow becoming an MLB player. Age 27-30: You start to think about how the players your age are in their MLB prime. Then you evaluate your own physical condition and question if this is your prime. Age 31-35: You start seeing guys your age who had good careers, but are starting to fizzle out of baseball. You think about how young the new rookies look, even though it felt like just yesterday that they were your age. You'll start saying things like, "Oh to be 23 again". Age 36-40: You rarely see guys your age playing anymore. Than you once again have the feeling that you know you can never be a MLB player. I would imagine it keeps going from there. I bet you get to a point where you have all these feelings again, but instead of about you, you're comparing the player to your kid. Age 41-45: Players you grew up watching are now pot bellied managers with a 41-45" waistline.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 10:39 PM) Maybe Cespedes is stuck on 5-6 years and Sox are trying to get him to 4 years. It's all a guessing game at this point IMO since the sox are so tight lipped. This is what I'm thinking, despite the media PR stuff. Cespedes is known to want 6 and despite what the media says I believe the Sox are willing to go 4. I'm guessing if the Sox are to sign Cespedes that the two sides meet in the middle with 4 years + a 5th muatual option or a 5th year vesting option. Just guessing. While I have been skeptical of the Sox being able to sign Cespedes I have to say the Sox chances are decent since there's less than a handful teams after him and big money teams like Boston, NYY and Dodgers have been out of it from the get go. Maybe Sox fans should be glad the Yanks haven't been able to deal Gardner, yet.
