  1. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 09:26 AM) I don't think Eaton relies on speed that much. He's really just a good contact hitter with a great arm. Sure, his speed affects him on defense, but the marginal speed decrease that will come as he ages won't affect it that much. Even if he was some big base-stealer or speed guy, plenty of those guys still play well with age. Take Juan Pierre, for example. Eaton would cost a ton in a trade. 5 years of control for a gold glove outfielder who hits, gets on base, can run and has 15 home run pop. Unless overwhelmed I would not trade him
  2. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 04:46 PM) <!--quoteo(post=3452719:date=Dec 1, 2016 -> 04:42 PM:name=steveno89)-->QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 04:42 PM) <!--quotec-->Eaton is a proven all star at the mlb level. Regardless of Robles' ceiling, he is still 19 and there is a ton of time for him to end up as a bust. I like him as a prospect, but Eaton is not going anywhere as he is under long term control The Sox should heavily consider moving Eaton while his value is sky high. A speed/contact guy is not going to age well into his 30s - and he's already 28. It takes two to tango. If I am the White Sox I dangle the entire roster and see what bites, but teams realistically know the cost for Eaton would be huge with him being under control for so long
  3. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 04:44 PM) Cardinals too are said to be looking for a CF and leadoff hitter. Eaton is the perfect fit for them. Go get Alex Reyes ++ St louis needs Reyes more than they need Eaton in my opinion. Their farm system does not have much in terms of pitching after him
  4. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 04:27 PM) Wow, that is some surprising news. Espinosa is probably a 2 WAR player, easily worth the $5.3M he would be owed. I mean, that's about the same as Lawrie, and Lawrie is a worse player, who is hurt more often, and plays a BAD 2B, versus a great SS. That's pretty stunning that they don't feel they could tender him and then trade him for a decent piece back. Espinoza is a low obp player He could be worth $5.3 mil on a one year deal for some team though
  5. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) I would be on the phone with the Nationals regarding Eaton. If Robles was the headliner plus more I would jump all over it. Robles is one the highest ceiling players in all of minors. He's 2 years away, but love all 5 tools. If Pirates can get Robles plus more for a declining McCutchen . Eaton's value is never going to be higher. I would be on the phone with Rizzo. Eaton is a proven all star at the mlb level. Regardless of Robles' ceiling, he is still 19 and there is a ton of time for him to end up as a bust. I like him as a prospect, but Eaton is not going anywhere as he is under long term control
  6. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 11:17 AM) I wonder how Odor's arm is. He definitely has enough power for 3B. Odor is a below average fielder at 2B...I do not have confidence in him playing 3B defensively. I do not regard Odor as highly as most because he rarely walks which leads to poor on base percentages Without quality defense, I don't see Odor consistently getting on base enough to justify trading for
  7. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) Doesn't sound like Giolito is in play here. If Washington deals Robles, consider them out of the running for Sale unless they are willing to trade Turner...which I doubt.
  8. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Nov 30, 2016 -> 11:47 PM) If Avi sticks around he'll most likely get most ABs at DH anyway - depending if we get a guy like AJ Reed/keep Abreu or not. Avi sucks. He's a 4th outfielder at best and has below average defense. Strikes out at a high rate, I would have no issue cutting Avi loose. We have seen enough
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 12:33 AM) That's the problem with the Rangers' deal. They don't want to give up Odor because they need him for 2017, and Profar has fewer years of control as well. Then you run into the fact that they can't easily afford to part with Mazara, either. Too many pieces off the major league team, and not enough enticing minor league prospects at the lower levels. Trading for Gallo is the equivalent of the LaPorta/Sabathia deal way back in the day. They not only need hitting, but players who can hit and field their position at an above average level simultaneously. Gallo's value is in the toilet right now, the Rangers should have sold high when they had the chance. Looking at his minor league stats he murdered the ball at low and AA, but once he got to AAA he could not consistently hit at all. His 17 game mlb showing this year ended up with a .040 batting average and completely tanked his value. I don't see Texas having enough to offer in a Sale deal to entice the White Sox. Mazara is a below average defender and graded out a replacement level this season with a 0.4 WAR...not exactly a future star. Odor's below average defense resulted in only a 2.4 WAR season...not earth shattering as well. I see better packages coming from elsewhere
  10. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 30, 2016 -> 04:44 PM) From #whitesox GM Rick Hahn: https://t.co/uh3lmj2mTD https://twitter.com/CST_soxvan/status/804092468778192909 There are so many teams in on Sale that I cannot see the Cubs being the team that emerges with the best overall package given the long term ramifications. If the Cubs want Sale, they can have him...but they must be the highest bidder in a costly market
  11. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 12:13 PM) I might expect a little more than that, TBH. Besides the sexy name and dominating stuff, Q is arguably as valuable as Sale - with an extra year of control to boot. Plus you're adding in a year Frazier. Perhaps, but I see la being more willing to deal prospects than harming their mlb roster. Frazier should net one top 100 prospect plus one more prospect, even on a one year rental
  12. QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 04:30 PM) I think it's a bit childish and immature to outright reject dealing with the Cubs. I would treat them as any other team and evaluate their offer as I would other offers. If they were willing to start with Baez and Schwarber, we can begin negotiations and set up an offer and cross-check it with other teams. Any logical person would do this and not worry about some sorry rivalry. The cubs window to win is the next few seasons as they have cost controlled talent, as well as one more season of arrieta and Lester still in his prime. Rivalry aside, the cubs absolutely should be contacting the white sox about sale as an insurance policy for arrieta leaving in free agency. I would certainly be interested in what they could offer.
  13. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 05:17 PM) Instead of using the team friendly contracts to their advantage they are going to to trade at least one those good contracts away and lose any advantage they may have had. Then IF they become competitive Rodon and Anderson will leave for the greener pastures. They really are showing to be as poorly a run franchise as there is. I guess I had my head in the sand. Years of underdrafting and not using the international system to their benefit has caught up to them. Maybe they have realized it now but it appears to be too late. Jones is replaceable. The white sox need an infusion of young position player talent that the organization does not currently possess. Jones is a more attractive trade chip than Robertson due to the years of control and low salary
  14. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 05:03 PM) Yeah, longterm, although a lot could change in a year anyway, but regardless, both Conforto and Cecchini are blocked for 2017. Would be a good deal for both teams. The two mets are blocked and jones is under cheap control for years.
  15. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 04:11 PM) Saw Dave Cameron wrote an article about the Mets should try to move Michael Conforto now (they have a huge glut of OFs). What about something like OF Michael Conforto + SS Gavin Cecchini for Nate Jones? Conforto was the #80 ranked prospect before his 1st major league season. He has now played a full season worth of games in the majors, and despite a low average (.238), he has a fine walk rate of 10%, and an average K% of 23%, to go along with 21 HR, above average defense, 109 wRC+ and a 3.4 WAR. Gavin Cecchini is a SS likely to end up at 2B, and I would guess would come in around the top 50 in prospect lists. Was ranked #87 last year before hitting .325 in 117 AAA games this season, walking 10% of the time and only striking out a fantastic 11%. He also hits 8 HR, should play above average defense at 2B and has a strong arm. Conforto will turn 24 before the year starts, Cecchini turns 23 in a month. Both are obviously major league ready, and both former 1st RD picks (10th and 12th respectively). Both of them for Jones straight up? I would strongly consider it
  16. QUOTE (professa @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 03:56 PM) How bout this scenario where BOTH SALE and QUINTANA are traded: Sale, Robertson, & Lawrie to Houston for Bregman, McCullers, AJ Reed and David Paulino Since LA missed out on the Sale derby, they resort to Quintana Quintana & Frazier to LA for Joc, Urias, Bellinger, & Barnes I spent some time flip flopping the players we send to each team (i.e. maybe Sale goes to LA and Q and Frazier go to Houston). Either way, I think these are fairly fair deals. With respect to the topic, I think this team could be no worse than last year especially after trading both Sale & Quintana 1. Eaton RF 2. Anderson SS 3. Melky LF 4. Abreu 1B/DH 5. Joc CF 6. Bregman 3B 7. AJ Reed 1B/DH 8. Saladino 2B 9. C FA Signing Chris Ianetta or Hank Conger (Historically solid framers and cheap) Rotation: 1. Rodon 2. Gonzalez 3. Urias 4. McCullers 5. Shields I don't think Quintana and Frazier nets the White Sox Joc, Urias, Bellinger and Barnes. That is a massive return. Also, I don't see Houston dealing McCullers in a Sale trade if they want to compete. Musgrove is much more likely. Even still, that roster is not a playoff team for at least a few years
  17. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 04:52 PM) His opportunistic time to trade him is now. Waiting until next trade deadline is risky cause he could get hurt. Plus the more time he stays with the sox the less years of control a teams is getting in him. Also next offseason is a big one for free agents expecially pitching wise. Hes the best there is now on the market whether its free agency or trading. Someone will pony up cause not to many pitchers of his level are available. I think he probably will get traded within the next few weeks, but I would put it at a 65% chance he gets traded, 35% chance he stays
  18. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 04:44 PM) This is exactly the way it should be. If we don't get the return we deserve for a player of Sale's caliber then we don't make a trade. If we regroup for 2017 we build around pitching If the return for Sale is not what we want then absolutely I keep him and move forward. You can still get a ton of value at the deadline or next offseason for him
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) It would totally be a White Sox type of move. I want no part of Eovaldi 100% pass
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) It would totally be a White Sox type of move. I want no part of Eovaldi 100% pass
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 03:29 PM) I don't think levine is a good beat reporter, but I do worry that sox operate passively in trade talks and force teams to go to them vs. initiate bidding wars. But reality is I think sox are just waiting for CBA to be resolved. This is entirely CBA related right now
  22. QUOTE (shipps @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 03:26 PM) Why cant this be done while still having a good season? They still get draft picks as far as I know. Look, if you dont trust the FO I get it. Most fans dont. But to wish the team does bad after their most significant trade of this rebuild seems faulty to me. They are still allowed to make trades as they go. I get bmags point about not trusting the FO to do this but damn, I trust that having a good season is never going to be a bad thing. I hope they do well and then build upon that not loosing sight of the plan. If they decide to go full rebuild and they suck I will trust that too. I am not going to be closed to any way they want to do this as long as they have a damn long term plan. By trading Sale you would be punting on 2017 and likely 2018. But there is no reason why you could not compete in 2019 with the right moves
  23. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 03:03 PM) By all accounts Swihart should not be catching due to defensive shortcomings. Swihart has a decent bat, but is a bad defensive catcher and is injury prone He does not have near the value I have seen many place on him
  24. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 09:46 AM) Dude. Jones is a far superior reliever to Robertson at this point in time. Much better contract too. You have to get a Giles-to-Astros type deal for Jones...not a swap for Puig, who has 2 years of control left. Agreed. I would not trade Jones for Puig straight up at this point. I do not want Puig
  25. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 26, 2016 -> 05:37 PM) I'm hoping the Sox come away from the winter meetings with a Bregman package for Sale, and a Benintendi package for Quintana. Then the rest is gravy with Frazier, Melky, Abreu, etc. IMO Very doubtful they trade sale and Quintana. Rebuild or not they still have to field a team next year. Be patient and let the market come to the sox
