Some good advice on pest control is being given on the Sox pre-game broadcast. Very informative.

I'm kinda peeved that for the second time one of our top prospects is scheduled to start yet there are no viewing options available. First Rodon's start and now Danish's. Whatever, at least we've seen a fair amount of Anderson, Hawkins, Micah, etc. I thought we were supposed to see Montas the other day but we didn't.

3/7 ST: White Sox vs Mariners

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 7, 2015 -> 01:33 PM) JJ Stankevitz @JJStankevitz 14m14 minutes ago Erik Johnson in today's B-game: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K. #WhiteSox Coop did say EJ's spring has been encouraging. That line looks good to me even though it's a B game. Sanburn got lit up to say the least. I'll take anything positive I can get when it comes to EJ. Hopefully he can build off this. -

I would kill for a stream of this game... -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 30, 2015 -> 02:49 PM) He's likely going to end up in RF, but that doesn't mean he won't be able to play CF. Given his body structure and how he's filling out, there's a good possibility he slows down. It seems strange to me that, according to Baseball Reference, Hawkins has never played a single game at RF in the minors (159 at CF, 110 at LF).

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 11:06 AM) The backup catcher race will be an interesting one, though. I think Brantly will win it, but Kottaras and Nieto have a shot. Let's say Brantly does win the backup catcher job; where does that leave everyone else? Kottaras would be a sure bet for Charlotte, but who would be the other AAA catcher? Nieto or Smith? Who would start, Kottaras or one of the younger guys who should be playing everyday? Smith seems ready for AAA and probably doesn't need to repeat AA at 26-years old. Would it be good for Nieto's development to go from a full season in the majors to AA instead of AAA? ML: Flowers/Brantly AAA: Smith/Kottaras AA: Nieto/Whoever It'll be even more interesting if Kottaras win the backup catcher job. Barring any transactions, that'll leave three guys who should all be playing everyday in the minors (Brantly, Nieto, Smith).

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 12:14 AM) IF Micah wins the 2B job I can definitely see us keeping Tank. A bench of... Sanchez-SS, 2B Bonifacio- CF, 3B, 2B Tank- LF, RF, DH Shuck/Campana- OF Brantley/Kottaras- back-up catcher Pretty good and covers pretty much all of our needs in my opinion. If Sanchez wins the 2B job, keep that same bench expect for no Shuck/Campana (Bonifacio backup CF in addition to IF, Viciedo backup LF/RF) and either Saladino or L. Garcia as the backup SS/2B. Johnson can then play everyday at Charlotte until he's needed due to injury or Sanchez faltering.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 11:08 AM) Add me to the "Andy Wilkins is nothing" group. He looked like a AAAA player to me, but it was a small sample size. He could have been nervous, still making adjustments, etc. but I'll be surprised if Wilkins can contribute at the MLB level.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 12:40 PM) I'm not 100% sure. I just now he was majors and minors in 2012, 2013 and 2014. I'm fairly confident that means he has used 3 option years. I'm pretty sure Danks actually does have one option remaining, due to, IIRC, a relatively obscure rule that I read about somewhere. I don't recall the nature of the rule or where I read it, but up until he was DFA'd he was listed on this website as still having at least one option year (there's an "Out of options" column and it wasn't filled in for Danks). I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure.

QUOTE (Douglas Rome @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 02:07 AM) 20 homers, are you saying a 20 homer guy is a home run hitter? I say no way, a 40 homer guy is home run hitter, but not 20. thanks, douglas This ain't the steroid era, my man. Exactly one player hit 40 or more dingers last season (Nelson Cruz). I guess Abreu isn't a home run hitter? Besides, who's saying Viciedo is a "home run hitter?" Whatever that term means to you or anyone else is irrelevant. elRockinMT simply pointed out that Viciedo is a 20+ HR guy, which is factually correct as he's hit 20 or more HRs in two of the past three seasons. Despite his numerous shortcomings, Viciedo does have power and is still young. Like elRockinMT said, he's not a guy you just dump. Maybe he can't be traded right now and it's hard to see a long-term role/future for him on this team, but something will open up eventually. It's not like he's taking the roster spot of an everyday player. We're talking about Viciedo vs Danks/Campana/Shuck. Sure we'd have more flexibility with a left-handed bat that can play CF, but with Bonifacio in the fold it's a luxury, not a necessity. It can wait to be addressed when/if someone in the OF goes down (knock on wood), if Viciedo isn't traded by then. Thanks, Ding-Dong

QUOTE (Douglas Rome @ Dec 27, 2014 -> 04:54 AM) you guys prolly don't spank your kids either. Most of these modern players are big spoiled crybabies and so rich they could care less. If I was manager, no facial hair, no jewelry, butch crew hair cut and if they don't like it they don't play. thanks, douglas

QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 26, 2014 -> 11:46 AM) Maybe we should hire Hawk as manager. Yes! YES! HELL YES! Anyway, given the team that took the field the past two years, I don't think we really know what we have in Robin. This year should tell us all we need to know about him as a manager.

This game is taking forever.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 16, 2014 -> 05:03 PM) Now we can start to see if Bassitt is actually a decent pitcher, or if his last start was a product of a terrible A's offense. Regardless of his performance tonight, how is three starts enough to determine if anyone is a decent pitcher?
-
Though I was very complimentary toward Bassitt after his last performance, I also said at the time that it's too early to pencil him into the 2015 rotation or even bullpen. He's got a good future, but he still needs some time in the minors. He hasn't pitched a single inning in AAA.

White Sox v. Oakland A's

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 10:25 PM) lol people are writing off Garcia? Come on if healthy he's a 4 tool player. Check the projections on him as well, it's not just scouts that love him he's projected for around 10 WAR through age 27. It's terribly over used but his hit tool is legit, he's hitting 278 with all his experience coming before age 24. His OPS+ is 103. He's already a solid hitter, when he gets some experience under his belt he could be an excellent hitter. Not to mention he's fast and can field a bit if he continues to improve. I think personally he's been good since returning from injury in RF. I agree completely. Let's not forget, no one expected Avi to even be playing right now. Of course there's going to be some rough edges. -

QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 09:22 PM) Bassitt showed the ability to recover from his rough introduction. Might not be ready at the start of next season, but he's got a chance to be a useful piece. I agree. Let him get some time in AAA next season; his future seems bright. -

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 10, 2014 -> 07:28 PM) Abreu might not even beat the Sox franchise rookie HR record anymore. It seemed like a sure thing at the ASB, he just needed 6-7 more. Yeah, I don't know what to make of his power outage. That double he hit in the first inning would have been gone a few months ago. -

Bassitt's looking good so far. Nice late movement on his pitches. -
Hawkins is firmly in the "stock up" category for me. He's still got a long way to go, but improving from .178 to .249 speaks for itself, especially considering he's still young for level. He cut down on his Ks and upped his walks. He showed the power potential he has too by finishing second in the league in HRs.
-
QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Sep 4, 2014 -> 03:56 PM) Jacob May should be stock up as he showed some power and his SB ratio was real good. He had a horrific start and more than overcame that before he got hurt. He hit two HRs this year compared to 8 last year. I don't know, I'd day he had a neutral year. Same thing goes for Barnum. He got off to a terrible start (I remember I just about wrote him off at one point) but somehow managed to finish over .250. He didn't quite show as much power as I thought he would and IIRC he had a lot of errors at 1B. So I'd say neutral for those two, but they did show great resiiliency by bouncing back from rought starts, so they deserve kudos for that.

Carlos Sanchez: I really like what I've seen from him so far. He's got a compact swing and makes good contact. I agree with those who think he'll develop into a 10-15 HR guy eventually. He's solidly built and seems to be growing into his body without it affecting his range or athleticism. It's probably why he hit 7 homers in the minors this year compared to the 3 total he hit over the course of his previous 5 years. He's shown flashes defenisvely but also has made some mistakes, which isn't surprising given his age and experience. I think he's got a great shot to be an everyday starter next year at 2B (possibly SS is Alexei is dealt). Marcus Semien: There's a lot to like about Semien too. We already saw how well he works the count in his first stint this season when he had some timely/clutch hits, and I like his power potential and versatility. He can play all over the infield and possibly the outfield, which is why I think he'll be our super sub/utility guy as well as Gillaspie's platoon partner next season. I think he'll get plenty of playing time spread out over several positions even if he's not a "starter." Andy Wilkins: Too early to say really, but I love his AAA numbers (obviously) and I just hope his bat can play at the ML level. It'd be great if he can fill the DH role and give Jose a break on occasion. Lots of strikeouts so far in his brief tenure with the Sox, but he hit a foul ball the other day that was pretty close to going out and IIRC he barreled one up in his first game and sent it out to deep right-center. He's got great power, but will he make enough contact and get some walks?
