  2. QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 28, 2014 -> 05:54 PM) Didn't we draft one of those Guillens a few years and he expressed indignation at either the contract offer, or that we had waited so late to draft him? Any Guillens left in the minors? Last I heard, the one we drafted is playing indy ball.
  3. Noesi's been up and down with us so far, but he was truly excellent tonight. His stuff is pretty good. He and Rienzo have done a great job of picking up the slack. With Sale back and Danks coming off a great start, maybe things are starting to look up as far as our rotation goes. Nice clutch hitting by Sierra. I hope we start phasing De Aza out in favor of him. Great to get our first sweep (against the Indians no less) and move over .500.
  4. Carlos Sanchez with 2 HRs in 4 games, Keon Barnum hitting .371 over his past 10, and Myles Jaye with a dominant performance upon demotion... what the heck is going on here?
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ May 26, 2014 -> 09:42 PM) https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/470957604802277376 The Sox actually apologized over this. People need to lighten the f*** up. Wow... If they watched the game today they'd know the Sox respect veterans and Memorial Day. You have to be really reaching to find offense with that "BBQ & Baseball" comment. Unbelievable...
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 26, 2014 -> 06:29 PM) Gillaspie is just a thing of beauty right now. He's a good baseball player, too.
  7. There's no way that was a strike, but I'll take it.
  8. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 25, 2014 -> 07:43 PM) Well I'm glad they finally got rid of that bum. I hated him here and I hated when he resigned. Kind of a bizarre guy to hate. He played what, a couple dozen games total for the Sox? Hard to even remember a guy based off of that few games, much less hate him. It's not like we're talking about Keppinger here.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 23, 2014 -> 10:53 PM) Did anything good happen tonight? @FutureSox 1h Keon Barnum has a 5-game hitting streak. He’s 8-17 during the steak. Just one double and no homers though.
  10. That was freakin' awesome. What a way to start the 3-day weekend. Noesi with the QS; Nice job by him. Eaton in this lineup changes everything. Alexei already has more homers than he did all of last season. Dunn's been great. I can't wait 'till Abreu is back and all our key guys are healthy (knock on wood). I really hope Danks gives us something tomorrow so we can get the W and get over .500.
  11. Random question: Does anyone have any idea how "Cleuluis" is pronounced? Every time I say it in my head I just know I'm butchering it.
  12. Barnum went a total of 3-6 during the double-header today after going 2-3 yesterday with only one K during those three games. He must have read my post in the 5/20 thread.
  13. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ May 21, 2014 -> 10:08 AM) Alright, let's pump the brakes here. The kid is 21 and only has 100 pro games under his belt. He's got a couple more years until we can forget about him. I still like his potential if he ever figures it out, but he's not far from going the Jared Mitchell/Keenyn Walker route either. He's got a long swing and (obviously) strikes out a ton. I think a demotion to Kanny may be in order if he doesn't get it together soon. Everyone knows Hawkins struggled mightily in WS last season, but he was at least hitting homers. I know injuries have derailed Barnum's short pro career to this point, but he's yet to display the power that has drawn Ryan Howard comparisons. The kid's confidence must be shot, and you can't just leave him in WS hitting .150 and hope for the results to change. He gets like 3 Ks just about everyday. Think about what that can do to a player mentally.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 20, 2014 -> 09:22 PM) Barnum's still alive, barely. I've all but given up on him. He's a fringe prospect at best at this point.

  16. Another good outing for Rienzo. He's solid and gives his team a chance to win. I can see him sticking as a back of the rotation starter. He's definitely not going anywhere when Sale returns. It'd be really nice if E. Johnson could rediscover his velocity so he could help Rienzo round out the rotation. I missed pretty much all of the 8th and 9th innings because a thunderstorm ruined my signal. We were leading 7-2 when my signal went out, then it was 7-5 when it came back on. Nice game for Conor. I really like him, even with the lack of power from 3B. His defense seems to be improved from last season too. Tumbleweeds looked pretty iffy behind the plate, but he did hit that dinger. He's still hitting over .300. I never wanna see Downs or Francisco again. Francisco should be on the first plane back to Charlotte. Downs should do himself a favor and retire. Let's get the sweep tomorrow.
  17. Where would we be without all of Semien's clutch hits? Great pitching duel between Q and Samardsgvfdsdfgby. I almost feel sorry for him. Beckham can do no wrong in Hawk's eyes. This game would have ended a lot sooner if the wind hadn't knocked down a few of our would be homers. Petricka has been awesome. Downs has not.
  18. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ May 1, 2014 -> 11:49 AM) http://www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2014/...tch-marchapril/ It seems like a fun rookie class for our Sox this year, with a numbers of players in key roles. I will be tracking them all with monthly updates and ranking by WAR. Good job and a fun read, but you made an error in regards to Charlie Leesman that I have to point out: "He only lasted 2.2 IP in his MLB debut, predictably getting hit around for 9 H and 6 ER, issuing 1 BB with 0 K." It wasn't his MLB debut. He pitched in 8 games last season including 1 start (which was pretty decent given the circumstances).
  19. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 29, 2014 -> 10:56 AM) I wouldn't go as far as Leesman. He's simply not ML material. It was just ridiculous after the first bad inning everyone was saying "f*** Rienzo" and then in the 6th he's better than Erik Johnson. It's silly. This game is cyclical and small sample sizes are nothing to get worked up about. Rienzo is what he is. He's got pretty decent stuff but he's not the smartest pitcher. That being said, he's a competitor and he can get through, or perhaps gets past, tough innings. He's a fringe #5 type and could be a factor in the bullpen. Right now, with injuries, he's a decent option to have. He really needs to start getting more first pitch strikes though. I don't know if it was just when I was watching or what but he had fallen behind off the bat way too much. Hawk and Stone were right that he was wrong to abandon his curveball in the early going. Leesman was awful in his start this year (I think he was throwing like 85-87), but IIRC he was pretty decent in his lone start last year. I don't see him as a ML starter, but if he can get his velocity back up to what it was I could see him being a decent reliever.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 07:29 PM) Rienzo is no good. No different than Axelrod. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 07:31 PM) He is better than Axe. But long term he is a reliever. QUOTE (Flavum @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 07:34 PM) That remains to be seen. I hope this is Rienzo's last start with the Sox. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 07:30 PM) Call Hanson up send Reinzo packing. Overreaction much? He got off to a bad (terrible) start, but he battled back and did pretty well the rest of the game. He's started twice now, was solid in each, and is 2-0. He had some good games last year, too. What are you expecting from a 5th starter? He's no future all-star, but aside from two bad innings through his first two starts (the 4th inning in his first start, the 1st inning in this game) he's been pretty good. I don't get the Rienzo hate at all. Would you guys like to give Leesman another shot? Or Paulino?
  21. I will be at this game tonight. Here's hoping the game is as exciting as last night's.
  22. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 09:23 PM) I imagine Gordon will play 2nd and Marcus 3rd ... for now. All I know is I don't want Beckham playing over Semien or Gillaspie.
  23. Solid outing from Rienzo, he did what a 5th starter is supposed to do. Good resiliency to bounce back from that rough 4th inning. Abreu is The Hulk. Semien is Clutch with a capital C. Leury made some plays today. Paulie did good. Webb for closer.
  24. QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 18, 2014 -> 08:46 PM) Leesman and Scott Carroll look like the 2 best starting pitchers at Charlotte. I don't care who it is as long as it's not Paulino.
  25. Robin: "Paulino, how's your arm feeling?" Paulino: "Great!' Robin: "Good. Take this note over to the umpire." Paulino: *reads note* "We forfeit?"
