I attended the 1964 SOX-CUBS game and it was by far the largest crowd I ever saw at old Comiskey. My girlfriend and I had to sit in an aisle in the upper deck down the right field line, there was nowhere for venders to sell their goodies except in the lower and upper deck walkways that separated the box seats from the grandstand seats. I still contend it was larger than the 55,000 that supposedly showed up on Bat Day in May of 1973, that was a big crowd that day but not as big as 1964 as fans were standing on the warning track from dead center field to the right field foul pole. To say they oversold the ballpark is putting it mildly.

During the Yankee series we made it to 7 under .500 and had a better record than the Cubs who are hotter than hell right now, is there any hope at all of the Sox getting hot, I’m not too optimistic but you never know.

I remember that 1956 sweep of the Yankees, the fans were simply delirious and so happy that the Sox were sweeping the Yankees, I also remember Jack Brickhouse being extremely emotional with events of that day. What I remember most about 1956 was the next time the Yankees came to town in August and my favorite uncle took me to the second game of the series which was a night game and the Bombers killed us 10-1 and my uncle wanting to leave after the Sox batted in the 8th inning, this 10 year old was crying like a baby that we were leaving before the game was over and his boyhood heroes were being clobbered by the hated Yankees. I miss the 1950s so much as the Sox were truly the darlings of Chicago with stars like Nellie, Looie, Minnie, Billy and Jungle Jim, everywhere you went people were talking about the Sox and of course the town went nuts in 1959 when the Sox won the Pennant.

Yep and instead we hit into tailor made double plays.

Very few of our guys look like they’re having fun, Robert Jr is definitely one that’s looks like he’s bored out of his mind and of course there’s Moncada who always looks like he’s going through torture.

I’m not worried about his speed, how many fast first basemen are there, certainly Paul Konerko wasn’t. He’s serviceable as a fielder, probably won’t win a Gold Glove but as he matures as a player he will get better, Abreu was no Mike Squires with the glove when he came to the Sox. I really expected AV to be more productive offensively with a higher BA near .300, at least 25 homers, 100 RBI and .850 OPS. Again I say, give him through 2024.
