Manuel just said on the radio that it's time for Frank, Maggs and Konerko to step it up. And IT IS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm discouraged, but you can't give up when you're only 1 1/2 back. Crazy things can always happen. Ask Red Sox fans.

Borchard or Reed
My thoughts: Give Rowand a chance. He is a solid outfielder, decent runner and has the potential to be a solid hitter. I think this year we got a false read on him because of the injury and I believe he pressed when getting his first opportunity. Because nobody was hitting, his flaw were magnified. Borchard will have to show me. His strikeouts are wayyyy too high, especially right handed. His power numbers plunged in one of the easiest parks to hit in in the International League. You should improve during your second season in AAA. He declined. And the fact the Sox didn't bring him up in September tells me they have seriouis questions. I wouldn't be surprised if Borchard is dealt. Reed needs to start in AAA. You can always bring him up if needed. He's been a pro less than two full seasons. He's obviously a strong prospect as a hitter, but he's not going to be a big power guy. Haven't seen him play so I have no idea if he can handle CF in The Show. I, too, would love to see an upgrade at SS. Somebody with less power, but a better understanding of the value of getting on base. That's not Jose. If Robbie takes a reasonable salary, welcome him back. But remember he's in decline. This is two straight sub-par offensive seasons. I'd only be in favor of trading Konerko if you can get value. Makes no sense to deal the guy when his market value is low. Good chance he'd got somewhere else and hit 35 hrs and knock in 110 runs and we'd all be ripping KW for trading him. To me signing Colon is the Number One priority. With Colon, Buehrle, Garland, Loaiza, we'd only need to find a fifth starter. Pitching would keep us compeititive == just as it did the first 3 months this year while the offense snoozed.

If Maggs
Maggs needs one of those 12 games streaks to finish the season like that streak he had right after the all-star break

9/17/03 GAME THREAD...
Dude's been in the big leagues more than three years. We're not asking him to outpitch Hudson, Pedro or Pettitte. He's got to outpitch The Gambler. Do it. Besides it was 20 years ago tonight the Winning Ugly Sox won the division. time to step up, fellas.
-
Turn the attention to today
we need two of these three -- Maggs, Frank and Konerko -- to deliver. plain and simple. Another dead zone in the middle of the lineup, packed with the inevitable double plays, and it will be ugly. Rogers and Lohse are guys you HAVE to beat if you expect to win the divison. No excuses
-
Most dissapointing season ever?
This one cracks the list simply because the division was there to win -- and it shouldn't have even been that difficult. Twinkies floundered for so long, begging the Sox to take charge. Sox didn't answer the call. That's why this season has been a disappointment

jonny be great that's my hope

Most dissapointing season ever?
Exactly. you've really got to work at it to go into Detroit and get swept while scoring only 3 runs in 27 innings. First game Detroit won this year was against the Sox. Team Detroit beat the most this year was the Sox. Team Detroit beat to start the second half of the season was the Sox. It's a total embarrassment.

Jerry Manuel Days Numbered?
Six years -- and three straight years of underachieving -- are enough. JR might not want to pay Manuel off, but he knows the fan base is fragile and people will stay home if Manuel comes back. Manuel knows it, too. That's why he's building his dream house in Sacramento. It's time for a change -- two years too late.
