Parque and Sirotka
i was at that game Siro pitched it was in late August at Fenway on a Sunday afternoon. I believe the run was unearned because of a -- believe it or not -- Valentin error. Sox had a chance to score in the ninth, but couldn't get a big hit. Von Joshua got tossed because he laid a towel down in the dugout to show John Hirshbeck how wide his strike zone was. Siro literally gave his career to the Sox. Pitched lotso innings. Pitched hurt in the Division series against Seattle. The pitching was actually pretty good against Seattle, considering Parque, Baldwin, Sirotka and Eldred all were sore or shut down. Foulke gave it up in one game in Comiskey as I remember. And the offense was a total no-show. TOTAL. Three full years on the sidelines tells me Sirotka will need a miracle to come back.

Don't expect any help from the Tigers
Sox got no right to say a word about the Twins' schedule not after losing 8 games to that rotten team. Not after that three-game series in July when the Sox huffed and puffed their way to THREE runs in THREE games. They dug the hole. They gotta dig out of it -- THIS WEEK. As for the Tigers, we'll be lucky if they beat the Twins twice in seven game. I believe Minnesota has won 21 of its last 22 against Detroit. Two or more will be a bonus. One thing that does give the White Sox hope is White Sox history. In 1967 they were locked in a four-way race against Minnesota, Boston and Detroit. With a week to go, I believe the Sox were a game out. But insiders were predicting the Sox would win it all because they had the easiest schedule. So they lost the last five games of the season -- a twi-night doubleheader at Kansas City as well as a three-game series at home against the Washington Senators. KC was the worst team in the 10-team AL with a final record of 62-99. Washington finished 76-85, tied for 6th. The Sox ended up fourth, three games out. As bad as KC and Washington were that year, they look like the 1927 Yankees compared to these Tigers.

if the sox are going to win it, they're going to win it with pitching. Need the same kind of chunking in the Twinkie Dome starting Tuesday Kudos to buehrle, who can finish this year over .500 after starting 2-10

Butter gone
somebody will give Par-Kay another chance he didn't pitch that poorly this year. His velocity wasn't much -- topping out at 85-86, still -- but he never was a hard thrower. In fact, he started two games for Durham in the International League playoffs. My sources say he wasn't released because of the way he pitched as much for the way he tried to 'big-league' too many people. Maybe getting released by a dreadful team like Tampa will knock him down a few pegs.

Flash unavailable
it appears that Flash Gordon left the team after last night's game to return to Florida for the funeral of an uncle. He'll definitely miss today's game and maybe Sunday, too. Thoughts and prayers with Flash and his family. He is also negotiating a possible contract extension with KW. Sox trying to get it done before the end of the season. As reported earlier, Tampa is probably going to make a run at him, appealing to his desire to stay closer to home and his four children year round. seems like a strange time to be talking about contracts with Gordon, Robbie and Bartolo, but that appears to be what is going on.
