QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 1, 2013 -> 07:28 PM) Having tools isn't what makes you a leader, unless you want to call Albert Belle a leader. Being a bench player doesn't make you one either. Which is where Gordon is going to be unless he figures out how to hit again and not be so up in his head (which ironically was once one of Paulie's biggest issues and when he finally got over that he became a better leader)

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 1, 2013 -> 07:21 PM) Plus arm and plus glove for sure Those are the two. Maybe base running skills? So 2.5, but those aren't the 2.5 that compose a leader. I mean Paulie only has 2 as well, but those 2 keep you around for 15 years leading a club, Gordon's make you a nice utility player...

QUOTE (fathom @ May 1, 2013 -> 07:00 PM) For those not watching, it sure seems like Beckham will be with the White Sox for a very long time. Hawk said he would take over as leader of the team after Konerko leaves. Yeah that's bulls***. You can't be a leader with only 2-tools...

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2013 -> 05:53 PM) Verlander had an ERA over 5 in 2008. I bet the Tigers wish they'd released him then, right? You think the Sox are that lucky? I don't...

Glad the Sox decided that they didn't need to wait and see how Sale looked after his first full season in the rotation before they signed him long-term...
-
Sale is kind of having the season he should have had last year. Struggling from the transition from bullpen to rotation, righties killing him. Lots of homers... instead he dominated most of the year.
-
Time for Sale to give up a Kinsler solo blast to tie it up.

"That's not... good"

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 1, 2013 -> 07:05 AM) Good thing they shut Strasburg down in September. I said it last year, you never know in baseball. That could have been their only chance to win a title for years as far we know. Seems like Stras was going to get hurt either way. Even if he was tired there's a mental aspect of having your ACE going for you, not only to pump up his teammates, but to dishearten the opponent. And in October the real special ones shine, if Stras was there, even gassed I'm willing to bet he might have been able to dominate given the chance... but nope, had to baby him and now he's hurt anyway. Way to go Rizzo!

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 1, 2013 -> 07:09 AM) I don't think you can say that with any certainty. This offense has been a bowl of puke and we've still won quite a few games. Same with the defense. If the offense comes around a bit and the defense shores up, then Thornton Lidstrom and Jones aren't blowing games. I just don't see how it could get much worse but I do see how things could get better. Well Robin inherited a team that completely underachieved in 2011 under Ozzie almost in tact and turned them into playoff contenders just by getting the most out of them. The 2013 team is again almost intact from what Robin had last year and somehow all the good he bought from April-August is gone. Yes injuries are making him play AAAA players but really those fundamentals hits, with RISP and smart play from 2012 wasn't really evident when Beckham and Viciedo were playing either. And it doesn't have to get worse for this season to be a complete disaster, it could stay ostensibly the same and they still might lose 90.
-
Win 20 and we'll talk. f***, win 11 and ill be flabbergasted. The talent is just not there even when healthy and Robin has lost the ability to get the best out of his players and is allowing the poor play that cost them a playoff birth 6 months ago to inexplicably continue in 2013.

s***ty April.... No playoffs this year. Just hoping for a sell off midseason. And watching Gillaspie develop...
-
Sox don't score here, I don't think they score again for the night.
-
Yeah.... That's what you get for LOB's
-
Off the hook...over and over again
-
This game is going to be 5 hours long at this point.... Jeez.
-
Q's gonna need to be dominant the rest of the way, cause Yu making everyone look terrible now... Those LOB's in the 1st and 2nd are killers.
-
Can't keep leaving guys on base. Darvish may not be able to get it together all game, or he'll flip a switch and become dominant. Either way you gotta get that hit.
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 09:54 AM) 15 k's minimum for Darvish. He could set the record tonight. Honestly.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 29, 2013 -> 06:30 AM) They had winning records in April in '93, '00, '05, and '08. The last time they made the playoffs with a losing record in April was '83, and they were actually 20-25 after May of that year. They went 46-15 over the last 2 months. Yeah what he said. When I talked about NEVER making the playoffs I was strictly talking in context about 93-Now. That is 100% the facts. I understand the '83 team didn't have a winning April as Hawk has reminded me 8,000 times this year...
-
Since 1993 an I'm choosing that since its the most amount of playoff appearances in a 20 year gap (A whopping grand total of FOUR WHOLE TIMES! --- Christ this franchise is pretty terrible when you really think about it haha) They have never made the playoffs with a losing record in April. Never. History just not on their side. Not saying a winning April guarantees playoffs (last year for example) but historically it helps a whole hell of a lot.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 28, 2013 -> 04:31 PM) I gave Ventura all the credit in the world for how that team came out of spring training ready to play last year. He gets exactly the opposite this year for this team coming out of ST making themselves look like fools every time there's a cutoff man to hit. The lack of preparation and carryover of poor fundamentals from last September (6+ months ago!) are all on Ventura and if they team can't turn it around it will (and should) cost him his job. Inexcusable.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 28, 2013 -> 09:48 AM) Well, let's see... KC 12-8, on pace for 97 wins Det 12-10, on pace for 88 wins, and that includes them already going out west for a 4-5 trip It's not easy to determine anything with this division. But I don't think the AL Central is any more strong or weak than the other two divisions at this point. We'll see where the records are at the end of May. Get about 1/3 of the season in the books to get a better grasp on the divisions. Well if you're going "on pace" every other division leader would be on pace to finish with a better record than KC. And some of the second and third place teams would as well since they all have better records than most AL Central teams.

I'll give Dylan some credit, he's been pitching pretty solidly. Take away his start in Washington and his ERA is 2.33 Axe keeps pitching like this, he might make some interesting trade bait.
