  1. If we trade Alexei, we need to get at least one top 100 out of it. As far as replacement goes, grab Stephen Drew as a stop gap. No draft pick loss, good defensively at short and honestly I don't really trust 2 young players up the middle when they were both pretty shoddy defensively last season.
  2. Trade Beck and Trayce Thompson. Take on all salary. Make him primary DH/4th outfielder. Sign a left/right fielder capable of playing center for when Eaton gets hurt. Eaton CF Ramirez SS Abreu 1B CarGo DH Garcia LF/RF Rasmus? RF/LF Gillaspie 3B Flowers C Second baseman
  3. QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 6, 2014 -> 08:32 AM) Independent of all the other points you made - Sandoval's camp saying he's looking for $100M does not mean he'll get $100M. He'll still be too expensive for my liking, but him reaching nine figures would surprise me. I don't know who will give it to him. Giants are only willing to go 3 years I guess. I'm guessing he signs same deal as Pence but with the Red Sox
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 6, 2014 -> 08:14 AM) $100-116 million for a 3B who's very likelway when Eatono continue to battle weight/health issues into his 30's....and who's likely to put up a 725-750ish OPS in the coming years? I don't think the upgrade is worth the money unless it's for an all-around superstar-caliber player with offensive and defensive skills in the OF or at catcher. Sandoval's a 12-18 homer guy now, which isn't FAR off what Conor could be expected to provide in the next year or so. The major difference is his defense, but is that really worth a nine figure contract for a team that hasn't approached that number for a single player? Personally I think the best route is to get two outfielders making one of them the primary DH/4th outfielder. That way when Eaton gets hurt you don't have to start Danks for 13-14 games in a row. Danks is better as a 5th outfielder. Could totally see us getting a Seth Smith or Matt Joyce to bethat kind of DH. I mean you already have a DH in Tank, but if you want to get more left-handed.
  5. My wishful thinking off season would be: signing Sandoval to play third, trading for Heyward (include Davidson in deal since we have Pablo), signing a McCarthy type pitcher, and signing some non-top relievers (Cotts had a solid year, Soriano could be a buy-low option). You could also trade Viciedo for possible bullpen help. Eaton CF. Ramirez SS Abreu 1B Sandoval 3B Garcia LF Heyward RF Flowers C Gillaspie DH/1B/3B maybe platoon with a right handed infielder (Saladino?) and let Pablo DH those days Whoever breaks camp at second I know none of that will happen but it would be interesting to see
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 09:08 PM) I seriously doubt those first 2 would get Hayward. If you include Tim Anderson with the other 2, you might start getting their attention. Hence why I stated: "whatever else is needed." I'm not implying just throw-in guys, just whatever it takes.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 07:55 PM) Tempting, but even our best offer of Montas, Danish, Anderson and Hawkins might not be enough to get it done. They would ask for Quintana in addition and that would be the deal breaker IMO. If they would accept the first deal, it's definitely something to consider. However, a Rockies player coming to the AL, his injury history...his going into his decline years, only the Kenny Williamses of the world have the balls to make that deal. And the problem is that the farm system still doesn't have enough depth to recover from losing every top prospect but Rodon in one fell swoop. It would take another 18 months to replace that level of talent. I want them to get Heyward. Hawkins, one of Danish/Montas and whatever else is needed. Deal also happens with a 72-hour negotiating window to work an extension
  8. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 05:39 PM) stat wise, I was looking at them side by side. well I will the other post their thoughts on it. look at flowers, the last 3 months. and then at castro. I would like to see your response. How do they look? On a phone and unable to look
  9. If I had to make a bet, I'd bet on Castro having a better season than Flowers next season.
  10. I'd rather see Viciedo dealt for Castro than Viciedo dealt for Dominic Brown.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 03:19 PM) I would be okay with Castro but I'm not giving up a ton for him. What about for Viciedo? Maybe we get something back like a BP arm as well.
  12. Castro didn't really have a good year last year but I can see a Castro for Viciedo swap easily. Maybe other pieces added in from the Astros or not.
  13. Anyone think Castro can be on the move? More specific, to us?
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 5, 2014 -> 10:19 AM) He won't be offered arbitration. Actually the Angels are looking to move Kendrick so a great chance he will be.
  15. Also saw that Beckham is projected to get $5mill. Glad we will be paying someone 1/10 that price to put up similar/better numbers than him.
  16. I'm on the side that says trade for Heyward, but would request a 72-hour window to work out an extension. Trade Hawkins, one of Danish/Montas, and then whatever else needed to make it happen.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 11:11 AM) I just want to clarify my vote in this poll. The question is "Do you want Victor Martinez?" My answer to that question is yes, assuming that we are defining "want" as "want Victor Martinez to play on the Chicago White Sox" and not "want Victor Martinez to send me a naked selfie." I absolutely want the former, I absolutely do not want the latter due to the bodily effects gravity plays on people. However, it's all cost dependent. I think Chicago White Sox mentioned 3/$48 as his limit; I agree with that. Really, anything much more than that on either end is getting too long and too expensive. This is a who has, for all intents and purposes, zero defensive value and he is getting older. Those types of players historically do not return a ton of value and are typically overpaid based on previous performances. I could do 3/48 on him. Maybe even try to front-load it a bit? He has been primarily a DH the past 4 seasons so how bad could his body be possibly wearing down? I'm sticking with wanting to add him to hit 4th and taking over as veteran leader.
  18. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 2, 2014 -> 07:37 PM) Supposedly VMart is looking for a 4 year deal with a contender and at 36, I belieRasmusGVMart alone does not make the Sox a contender which means the Sox would need to get holes filled first so the Sox can go to VMart and show how they have taken steps to make the team better and tell VMart that he's the finishing touch to a Sox contender. I cannot stress this enough, do not get your hopes up Sox fans. Stop believing what idiots like Levine have written. DH is only one of the holes to fill on the Sox along with LF, two or maybe even three bullpen spots, 2B , possibly a starting pitcher and a case could be made for a defensive upgrade at 3B. That's a lot of holes to fill in one off season and a very hard sell to VMart. Sorry, I just don't see VMart being interested and that doesn't include the love spat between he and Sale. I think they end up with Rasmus on a one year deal so he can rebuild his value to enter free agency again next season. Eaton Alexei Abreu Martinez Garcia Rasmus Gillaspie Flowers second baseman
  19. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 2, 2014 -> 08:26 PM) I think you are correct with who bids the highest. I just read an article that speculates the contract could go 9 years and top 100M. I say go for it. He can't. He is under the restrictions of international spending
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 2, 2014 -> 08:02 PM) Frontload the contract while you can afford it. You won't hate yourself as much later on and it might make him tradeable if things don't work out so well. I agree with this. Especially if they find other cheap 1-2 year deal kind of guys in other areas
  21. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 2, 2014 -> 10:53 AM) http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/arizona...ade-talk-110214 He has 3 years/40 million left on his contract. 31 years old, but has struggled the past 2 seasons since signing that extension. He is a lefty bat but I don't think he's that much of a upgrade than Flowers at this point. What are your guys thoughts? F*** no
  22. QUOTE (Scubadentist @ Oct 24, 2014 -> 11:58 AM) what about bringing in Maddon?.....I'd love to see him replace Robin, but what about as bench coach?....though Parent gets a lot of accolades.... Really think he goes to LA
  23. Maybe he didn't ruin baseball for other team's fans but as a Sox fan after 2011, I never felt confident this team would do anything with him on it. Never hits with guys in scoring position. I didn't care if he hit 40 homers the year before, when guys were on base it was almost certain they wouldn't score with him hitting.
  24. Hasn't Heyward batted leadoff a lot the past 2-3 seasons? You can change your approach at the plate depending on where you hit.
  25. QUOTE (lord chas @ Oct 22, 2014 -> 08:56 PM) The atmosphere at that game was incredible. I miss playoff baseball on the South Side It has only happened what, 3 times in the last 15 years? It's not like it was that common haha (at least in more recent years)
