Crain has thrown from mound
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 15, 2015 -> 04:07 PM) I believe that there were 76 relievers in MLB that averaged at least a K per inning. The Sox had 1 - and that was Cleto in limited duty. (veal, too, in 6IP). The guys were young, so they can improve; but I also don't think we had many "must carry" on that staff last year. As for Crain, he hasn't pitched in nearly 2 years and is 34. Even if he does come back, at what level of effectiveness will he deliver? No one really knows at this point, but chances are extremely high that he'll be better than Belisario/Downs/Francisco/Veal/Snodgrass were last year.

ST: 3/15 vs Angels, 3:05
Putnam was filthy today. That's a good sign.

If you could acquire one last player to complete the offseason...
QUOTE (dewssox79 @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 12:11 PM) Well I have always wanted SP Roark. Just so happens he maybe going to the pen. Such a waste of talent going to the pen. I'd love Roark as our #4. I don't know what it'd take to get him, but make it happen Mr. Rick Hahn. A rotation of Sale/Shark/Q/Roark/Danks is nice.

Brandon Beachy
QUOTE (Whitey @ Feb 13, 2015 -> 06:34 PM) This would be a great signing... Lets face it, Noesi is no slam dunk for next year. Neither is Danks for that matter.

White Sox sign Matt Albers
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 13, 2015 -> 03:22 PM) Another very nice move. I fully expect that one if not both of Crain & Albers could be key pieces for this bullpen moving through the season and providing stability for this pen. Can't beat these low risk/high reward moves. Brad Penny could be in the mix too. 100% agreed. These low risk/high reward signings are very nice.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 08:22 PM) Fielding independent pitching, it's basically a better version of ERA. Thank you for clarifying.

FutureSox TV - Right Handed Starters
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 07:05 PM) This is WELL done Agreed. Great job. To stay on topic, I'm hoping that at least one of Adams/Danish/Montas/Beck can be a serviceable starter in the big leagues. I bet Montas converts into a reliever eventually. I think Adams has the best chance to be a successful starter out of the all White Sox right handed pitching prospects. He seems like the real deal.

If you could acquire one last player to complete the offseason...
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 07:35 PM) Nope. He's overrated (4.5 FIP in 2014) and a terrible person (domestic violence and assault). We don't need that. What does FIP mean? Forgive my ignorance, I don't really understand the sabermetric aspect of baseball besides WAR.

If you could acquire one last player to complete the offseason...
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 07:03 PM) I'll pass. Find me a reclamation/depth starter for a 25-50% of that. Rodriguez would definitely be a luxury, but I think he'd boost that bullpen a ton. A few under the radar players that I'd like to see the Sox get are Chris Young (the pitcher), and Brandon Beachy. Both would probably be cheap, but they'd be nice to have just for rotation depth.

If you could acquire one last player to complete the offseason...
I just heard on MLB Network that the Sox could possibly be interested in Francisco "K Rod" Rodriguez. Would you guys be ok with him on a 2 year/$20 million deal? That gives Robertson an elite set-up guy ahead of him, and Petricka/Putnam/Duke would just have the cover the 7th inning. What do you guys think?

James Shields
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 5, 2015 -> 02:05 AM) To be fair, Kaplan thinks the Cubs are getting everyone, so I rarely take anything he says too seriously. Exactly. That biased egghead doesn't have a clue.

Konerko's number to be retired
QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 2, 2015 -> 10:49 AM) Cool card... https://twitter.com/toppscards/status/562260439283679235 I'm buying this for sure. Are there any other card collectors here? I have over 500 Konerko cards.

White Sox sign Jesse Crain
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 08:32 PM) Another candidate for the pen. There are some bodies to choose from this year. If everything works out a perfectly, a bullpen consisting of Petricka, Putnam, Guerra, Duke, Crain, Jennings, and Robertson seems damn solid to me. You also have guys like Cleto, Montas, Jones, Carroll, Surkamp, etc who could possibly be in the fold as well. It's nice to have a plethora of options.

Anybody else left feeling a little disappointed?
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 22, 2015 -> 06:00 PM) I think if you told a Soxtalk poster on the last day of the 2014 season the moves that we would make up to now, they wouldn't believe it for a number of reasons. We may not win enough games to contend this year, but I have an extremely hard time faulting Rick for what he's done thus far. 10000000000% agree. Hahn has put us in a position to contend, and that is all fans could've and should've hoped for this season. I don't know how anyone could be disappointed. This is the best offseason the Sox have had in a long time.

White Sox sign Jesse Crain
I LOVE this move. My expectations aren't high for him, but I'm glad he's back with the Sox.
-
Sox sign Geo Soto
I don't understand why they'd go after him, but a Minor League deal is very low risk. It's worth a shot.

If you could acquire one last player to complete the offseason...
QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Jan 19, 2015 -> 11:56 AM) I'd look for another SP on the cheap -- maybe a flier on someone like Billingsley. Brandon Beachy, Ryan Vogelsong, Freddy Garcia, Chris Young, and Billingsley all come to mind. The Sox have to take a chance on one of them.

Does anyone else think Doug Fister is now a possibility for the Sox since Scherzer went to Washington?

If you could acquire one last player to complete the offseason...
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 18, 2015 -> 10:27 PM) I'd trade Melky in a blockbuster and acquire some pieces for him. I don't see the Sox trading Melky right after signing him only a month or two ago. But you never know with Hahn.

Tom Ricketts has thoughts.
Ricketts is an idiot. Also, he's hideous looking. He looks like a squirrel on crack.

If you could acquire one last player to complete the offseason...
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 17, 2015 -> 09:51 AM) Rodon is going to be a part of this rotation at some point next year. We'll also have two of our top four pitching prospects at AA in Montas & Danish and two wild card prospects at AAA in Beck & Johnson. We'll actually have some interesting options if we need a starter later this year. Do you see Montas as a starter long term? I thought I saw somewhere that he projects to be a closer.

Flowers signs 2.675
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 17, 2015 -> 07:14 AM) Do you really believe WAR is that accurate for catchers? I think WAR is a nice stat, but it's not an end all be all type of thing. I mean what is the definition of a replacement player anyway?

Jordan Danks DFA, Phillies claim him
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 16, 2015 -> 04:33 PM) Are you kidding? Amaro is ready to sign him to a 5 year 100 million dollar contract This made me laugh. Well done.

Phil Rogers argues for Buehrle to the Hall of Fame case building
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 10:05 PM) You know what would be a good tradeoff: Dump Danks for Buehrle in our rotation. Mark's style of pitching rubs off on others and he always sets a good example. Danks arguably has better stuff, but I'd take the tradeoff. I realize Mark makes a ton of money now, though. I can't rip the Sox front office since they've added a lot of salary already since last season, but in theory ... I'd be all for this. I'd take this version of Buehrle over Danks anyday.

Jason Castro
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 15, 2015 -> 08:33 PM) Problem with that idea is Sanchez. He might be the most useful piece from that list, but the Stros are already sitting on an all star 2b in Altuve. I'd be interested in Sanchez as a team with a hole at 2b where putting a decent player in there would be an upgrade and that isn't the Astros. Do you think Sanchez could be an everyday MLB shortstop? If so, the Astros might have a use for him. Otherwise, I'd have to agree. I didn't think of Altuve. He's one of the best around.
