If I'm wrong on the avg, sorry. Listening to the first game on AM 1000 I could have swore Rooney and Farmer mentioned that Thomas' avg. was back down to .270 and would have been lower after Saturday.
As for Giambi winning the MVP in 2000..... no DH is ever going to win the MVP unless he hits .375-.400 with big time HR and RBI numbers. A sports writer (can't recall the name) said it best when he stated, something to the effect of, "An MVP helps his team offensively, defensively, and in the clubhouse." I happen to agree.
And yes, apologists. Let's forget the time Thomas left the AllStar Game early cause he had better things to do. That's when the fans were voting for him. "Thomas should be going over Everett." Well, not according to the MLB players. Maggs is announced as Ramirez's AllStar replacement and you're not 5 posts into a thread and people are b****ing and moaning, "Why didn't they take Thomas?" Waa, waa, waa. Maybe because they needed an OF replacement ? Oh, by the way, since it hasn't been said too often in this thread, congratulations Maggs .
While I don't deny the fact that Thomas' career numbers are stellar in a White Sox uniform, Sox fans need to realize that Thomas' numbers aren't as good as they once were and his numbers this year, for the most part, are not AllStar worthy. But let's give him an AllStar roster spot because it's at USCF at any cost . Makes Sox fans sound like fans of a certain other Chicago baseball team.
