Love to witness well executed situational hitting. Bases loaded… nobody out… back… to back… to back strikeouts. Even a (no out) conventional double play adds another insurance run. To witness three (3) straight WS batters unable to (EVEN ONCE) put the ball in play (with the bags packed) is inexcusable.

Way too many throw away (non-competitive) ABs (of late) by Goodwin, Garcia, Zavala, Collins, Hamilton… even Abreu and Anderson. Frank Menechino needs to Deliver an emphatic wake up message, to White Sox hitters. The team’s recent lack of plate discipline and situational hitting awareness is confounding.

White Sox hitters (far too often) seem unwilling to make the necessary adjustments, needed to succeed at the plate, of late. Good hitting teams routinely seek to take the ball up the middle and opposite field, thus taking whatever the opposing pitcher is willing to give them. Their unwillingness to make adjustments makes too many WS hitters incredibly susceptible to outside breaking/off-speed pitches… not to mention, high fast balls.

Relievers are unpredictable (and tenuous) from one year to the next. The best (one can hope for) is to have enough quality arms and pitching depth (in the system and MLB pen) to mix and match relievers throughout the 162 game season and playoffs. Most clubs (including top contenders) have to manage these realities throughout the course of the season. I fully expect Hahn and company to add 1-2 (solid to good) relief pitchers at (or before) the July 31st trade deadline to enhance their relief corps arsenal. Additionally, ever evolving bullpen roles will likely sort themselves out as the season progresses.

Wow… Burger’s double play ball had an exit velocity of 113 mph! Hopefully, Giolito can deliver a strong start in tomorrow’s rubber game of series. While his last start against Detroit was solid, Lucas’ other two starts against the Tigers (this season) were mediocre, resulting in losses.

Collins is ranked right near the bottom of MLB in terms of catcher framing metrics. He clearly needs to improve his framing and blocking skills behind the plate. That said, Tom Hallion is amongst the worst umpires in the league (in terms of ball/strike call accuracy and consistency metrics). On another note: I’m not sure why LaRussa felt justified in sending Jace Fry out for a second inning of work, in his first appearance back, (after such a long post surgery layoff)?

Hamilton, Collins and Mendick couldn’t have collectively looked more anemic in their efforts in the top of the 6th.

Somehow, WS hitters need to channel their justified frustration and take this game back from (sight and judgment impaired) Tom Hallion… and the piss poor performance of Dallas Keuchel.

LaRussa was painfully slow in pulling his starting pitcher. Keuchel clearly didn’t have it today.

Keuchel gives it right back. If looks like he’s throwing batting practice out there, with absolutely no command of his pitches today. He continues to be the most worrisome of the White Sox starting pitchers in their rotation.

Boneheaded (costly) decision by Hamilton to dive for that sinking liner. Given how cavernous Comerica Park happens to be in center field, not even the most experienced (or speedy) corner outfielders would have been able to get to that ball (in time) to preempt that (fielding mistake induced) inside-the-park homer. Thankfully, the WS were able to come right back to retake the lead in this game.
