Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
blackmooncreeping replied to blackmooncreeping's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 09:07 PM) Cespedes > Fowler and Jackson combined I want Cespedes too but if the guy doesn't end up here, could we do Fowler-Jackson as a plan B, money-wise, is my question. Although I think I'd prefer to try and trade for CarGo first instead of signing Fowler and losing the pick, and signing Jackson in either scenario. -
Sox Players Filing for Arbitration

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 09:11 PM) I think what you're pointing out is why we heard rumors about LaRoche being shopped. It was Hahn's effort in getting "creative" in order to sign a big FA. Since that effort understably failed, its really up to JR now to expand the budget to allow another acquisition unless the Sox find a sucker for LaRoche or Melky, which I doubt. Looking more and more like the Sox end up going the trade route. That's how it feels to me, like they might revisit with the Rockies and see if they can come to a deal outside of Q or Rodon. Would Danks, Adams and $$ interest them at all? They need pitching, we need to lose Danks -

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 09:01 PM) What does removing white sox from cespedes market do for his market? Push him to the white sox market? #market This is true, the chess games via the press continue. Could we potentially afford to sign Fowler and Jackson? -
Sox Players Filing for Arbitration
blackmooncreeping replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Just sayin, it seems we've heard "last year's payroll is this year's payroll" coming out of the FO, which doesn't jive with the talk of these add ons without the benefit of a trade to clear salary. It seems they'll have to go at least $130-$135 to field a serious contender. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 08:27 PM) Awful article by Levine. Avi wouldn't be the main piece, it would be Q or Rodon Never know, but if it was along the lines of Adams and Avi, someone else could and would beat that offer imo. If we can include Laroche somehow...ah, forget it

Sox Players Filing for Arbitration

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 06:26 PM) Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 7m7 minutes ago If everyone hits arb projections from @mlbtraderumors, and before raises for Rodon, Petricka, etc., #WhiteSox payroll sits at $114.9m. Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 22s22 seconds ago Here's more on the four #WhiteSox who have filed for arbitration. Figures exchanged Friday. http://bit.ly/1Zrr1h9 SO where are we getting the money to sign even a Dexter Fowler? Payroll is basically sitting at $115 right now, even if Reinsdorf approves a $125 million payroll, that's only 10 million extra to utilize. Seems like a big outfielder was a pipe dream dependent on another pipe dream--finding a taker for the awful contracts of either Danks or Laroche. Hope we aren't Avi or bust in RF... -
QUOTE (Saufley @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 04:50 PM) turns 34 in April and due $16 mil for 2016 and due $17.5 mil in 2017. Not so sure if I want him at that salary or age. I definitely don't want to be paying a mid 30's Either 33.5 million bucks over the next couple of years, and he is the exact opposite of the multiple years under cost control, younger player prototype that Han has been talking about. Blackmon and Dickerson do fit that profile, just not sure the Sox have or want to part with the prospects it will probably take. They for sure aren't in a position to beat all other potential bidders in a trade scenario.

QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) But Parra wasn't traded to Col. He signed as a free agent. You are correct sir, my mistake

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 02:45 PM) Would you be willing to spend $18.5 million Gonzalez over the next two years on the open market? (I don't know why I was under the impression his contract was a lot smaller than this) If yes, would the difference between what you would be willing to give him and what he is getting worth six years of Fulmer? Somehow I feel like Gonzalez return should be more like the return for Todd Frazier, maybe less. I agree, and think the return should be less than the Frazier deal. If it is, Sox should jump on it.
-
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 02:38 PM) I highly doubt they signed Parra to trade him... Agree, but it wouldn't be the first time a guy got traded and then traded again. Highly unlikely but ya never know
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 02:35 PM) Frankly, if they can't get a Fulmer level player for him as the centerpiece of a multi-player deal they should hold him until the deadline. I see your point, but I don't think the Rockies are going to roll all the way to the All-Star break with 4 lefty hitting outfielders. If CarGo doesn't go now, someone else will imo; the Rockies need to free up a spot for Parra (assuming he stays a Rockie).
-
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 12:21 PM) True. It's a lot of money, and the Sox apparently have said no to swapping Q for Cargo. So, unless the Rockies would agree to a lesser deal, I don't think there's any chance. There's no way the Rockies are getting a pitcher the caliber of Quintana from anyone, Sox or otherwise, for CarGo. Recent deals and signings make that pretty clear imo. The conversation from the Sox side should start with anyone other than ANderson/Fulmer.

Gerardo Parra signs with Rockies, 3 yrs 27.5mil
blackmooncreeping replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 02:27 PM) No chance, way too much money. Sox don't seem to match up at all with the Rockies. Still think it's either Cardinals or Orioles if it's Cargo and Angels for Blackmon. If they somehow found a taker for Laroche, maybe they could make it work. Oh wait, Laroche isn't going anywhere, the market has pretty much slammed that door. -

Or should they just pay Fowler and use the leftover $$ to sign a solid starting RHP? Leaves Melky in LF, but does get Avi off the diamond. -

If Sox can nab CarGo and hold onto Anderson/Fulmer, make the deal. Is it a stretch to think we could bring in 2 OF's? One on a trade (from Colorado, maybe they would take Laroche, a prospect and $$), and sign one of the remaining FA's (Fowler)? That would leave Sox with Fowler and CarGo playing the corners and move Melky to DH. They'd have to bump up payroll obviously, but it doesn't seem too drastic. Anyone? -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 01:27 PM) He said the Sox should be in on Cespedes until the very end. Upton isn't happening. To me, it sounds like they are in on Cespedes. If they doesn't pan out, they can sign Fowler for cheaper and still upgrade the team. Just make sure they don't wait too long or Fowler will be gone as well. Can't end up with no OF when the music stops; if they do they misplayed the situation badly. I've got more faith in RH & Co. to let that happen.
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 01:12 PM) Again, who are the teams that are going to jump in? I see a lot of posters claiming more teams will jump in, but few are offering suggestions about which teams actually would. I think it's an overblown fear. Just because you can't name the potential teams that may jump in doesn't mean they don't exist. Take Chapman to the Yanks--NY acquired Chapman when the price dropped to 4 meh-level minor league pieces, making it a deal they couldn't pass it up.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 07:42 AM) You are reading way too much into a couple of random tweets in which he is obviously being sarcastic. I'm sure one of two things has happened. Either they simply forgot to add his name to the list or he has yet to commit 100% to attending. There is no logical reason to not let him attend. exactly

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
blackmooncreeping replied to blackmooncreeping's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 09:33 AM) As it stands now, the Cubs are losing their 1st and 2nd round picks. When somebody signs Fowler, they would get a comp pick which would become the second pick they lose and they would get their 2nd round pick back. Sox have a comp pick, so that is the pick they would lose by singing Fowler. The advantages to Fowler is that he is a higher OBP guy, is a switch hitter, would be cheaper than and would probably be a bit better corner OF than Cespedes. He's not good enough in CF to displace Eaton. Cespedes gives you better AVG and far better SLG plus does not cost a pick. I'd rather have Cespedes, but if the price difference is huge, Fowler is worth it. Cespedes won a gold glove in LF, Fowler is not a better defender -

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 09:08 AM) Take it with a grain of salt. That article has Austin Jackson going to the Nat's who have a much cheaper option in Michael Taylor as their 4th outfielder. For some reason I just cannot see Fowler being the big upgrade the Sox need for the outfield. Eaton has a strong arm, he just needs to catch and throw instead of trying to bait the base runners into challenging his arm. Still yet, I think Eaton would be a better LF than RF. Problem is that Melky should not be in RF either. Damn does this team have some OF issues! Eaton's arm is plenty strong enough for RF; you would keep Melky in LF and put Eaton in RF if Fowler comes in. Genarally speaking, RF is considered harder to play so in theory you would put the better guy (Eaton) in RF. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 02:22 PM) No doubt, option 2 Rollins or Desmond will each cost at least 8 million a year I would bet. $8 million would be better spent on a pitcher in my opinion.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 10:55 PM) Well, I'm in agreement with you cause I see the Jays as a much bigger threat than the Nat's before they traded for Revere. As you said, Toronto has an open corner in the OF and seemingly money to burn. Also, they take pride in their powerful offense so it wouldn't be surprising if they added a big bat to an already big offense. As you said, not saying they will add a big bat but I'm not ruling them out and in fact I think they are a player in the Cespedes/Upton sweepstakes after the Revere trade. Toronto would be better served to make a run at someone like Parra, and look for more pitching depth with the cash it would take for YC/JU. Parra would be a good compliment to a lineup that is full of mashers already imo, as they've got plenty of pop as is.

Trade targets: who is available and at what cost?

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 03:17 PM) Exactly. The Upton thing is all jockeying for Cespedes. agreed. Leak that Upton is intrigued to get Cespedes camp to feel the heat

QUOTE (Lillian @ Jan 8, 2016 -> 02:36 PM) I want the power and the OBP to come from the hole in RF, and I want really solid defense at SS. I hope that the front office doesn't waste money, or a draft pick on signing an offensive SS. Good way to put it, on this team defense is the needed premium at SS, not offense.
