  1. Will always love the 83 throwbacks, but would like to see some more variety as well. The sleeveless home unis are great, too. How about the 59 unis with black pinstripes, the Sox logo in black with red outlines/hi-lights...that would be a good one on Sundays as well.
  2. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 22, 2018 -> 04:27 PM) I think the most realistic trade with the Sox and Brewers is a Braun salary dump by the Brewers to clear some payroll space for Darvish. Maybe something like Braun and Hiura or Diaz for Beck and Danish. I agree with this take; the most likely scenario is the Sox take on Braun's loaded contract in order to obtain some quality prospects. Might even be a 3 team deal to get that done...
  3. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 24, 2017 -> 12:36 PM) Oh yeah, as long as Jones can stay healthy he will have great value. IMHO, if Jones can succeed as a Closer in the second half, he's as good as gone next winter and for a nice haul. There would be no shortage of teams ringing Hahn's phone for a cheap Closer with four years of control left. Jones rumors would be a hot topic at the winter meetings. The only caveat being that I don't think an established, contending team would be willing to pony up multiple prospects for an unproven closer, or at least one that is still 'green behind the ears', so to speak. To be honest, Jones will still have tons of surplus value thanks to his insanely cheap contract, and might actually bring in more of a trade return as an established, nasty set-up guy than a fledgling closer. Time is on our side is the point, don't rush a deal just to make a deal.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 01:59 PM) I am sure their price was based on 2015 Robertson and not 2016. The Nationals were probably bidding as if he was 2016 Robertson. The fact the White Sox didn't come down in price is probably where the idea that they didn't want to trade him comes from. They probably didn't want to get rid of him at a reduced price. Exactly. It's all 'in between the lines' language...
  5. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 01:44 PM) Maybe Rizzo wasn't offering enough to peak Hahn's interest? Maybe Hahn thanks he will get more for Robertson in June/July. Robertson usually gets off to a strong start so Hahn could be banking on that. My guess is Sox wouldn't send any or at least enough cash along with Drob to acquire the young prospect(s) they want. We'll see how that progresses as the 1st half unwraps and the Nats see how their internal options are doing...
  6. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 12:03 PM) Some other things to be considered when talking about the catcher position. 1) Rodon's slider 2) Giolito's curve ball 3) Lopez' late moving FB and his curve ball. 4) Fulmer's curve ball 5) Q's curve ball 6) Robertson's curve ball 7) Jones, period. Movement on everything. Yep, I'm thinking defense first at the catcher position. All great points...give me a glove first and the bat can come around later.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 23, 2017 -> 01:40 PM) Heyman has article out today where a Nats source said WSox never acted like they wanted to really get rid of Robertson Pure posturing. Of course Sox want to deal Drob, it's a no brainer.
  8. So a banner with a bunch of young guns who might or might not live up to the hype? Pass...
  9. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 21, 2017 -> 06:33 PM) Then you must have also read that he wants to finish spring training at 248. As one of Avi's strongest supporters I am pretty sure I had a post suggesting he lose some weight so I'm glad the Sox and him came to the same conclusion. Doesn't he have a history of coming in lighter? Sure hasn't made much of a difference before...still the same bad swing, and being lighter won't help him take better routes to fly balls...
  10. I see this change as much ado about nothing. It really shouldn't rankle fans too much that they won't have the chance to see a hitter knock one in off an IBB (Miggy in 2006? Happens around once a decade?).
  11. Not a chance in friggin hell. Swisher sucks--actually, he's worse than that--and he bad mouthed the SOx after he hit .220 and got benched.
  12. QUOTE (hi8is @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 10:10 PM) I have to question the sources of these proported complaints. Why exactly? Because a handful of players said they didn't see any issues? VIrtually every media source in Chicago, and most outside of it, are reporting the same thing. Kenny botched the handling of it, but there is no way asking Laroche to dial it back was unreasonable.
  13. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 04:08 PM) Avila and Navarro both said they have no idea why anyone would have a problem with Drake and they didn't think any of the players said anything. Looks like that's now 4 players that don't believe it was any player and just KW leaking to the media that it's was the players, coaches, and or the owners. This just isn't true; multiple media sources have said there were several complaints? You can't just ignore that
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 11:54 AM) Whatever the heck his dad does? HE can go work at dad's meat packing plant.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 09:41 AM) No it's not to most. Again read what chairman Reinsdorf had to say when he called a press conference after Horace Grant verbally agreed to a contract extension, but realized things change, and backed out. Weren't most people critical of DeAndre Jordan last summer? I would love to see if things change was mentioned in that thread. It is absolutely their right to make changes to anything that affects their organization in a perceived negative fashion, especially on something like this. Laroche should've gotten it in writing if it was so important to him. He can choose to retire, life is full of choices, but NO organization is going to be dictated to by a single player, period.
  16. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 09:28 AM) I'm not a big fan of KW but it does appear as though he took one for the team here. The complaining players and coaches would probably feel like assholes if they approached a father to complain about the father's son, I would too. Also, it seems like the complainers didn't want to cause an uproar in the clubhouse and upset the chemistry between the players so they anonymously went to KW about Drake. At this point, what is KW supposed to do? Take the side of one player and his son or take the side of multiple players/coaches? Tough spot for KW and I wouldn't want to have to make that decision. One sticking point for me is the percieved "lying" KW did to the players. According to LaRoche's own words, he would handle the situation if any players, coaches or managers had a problem with all the time Drake spent with the team. Well, last I knew, KW is a manager. He approached LaRoche about the subject to which LaRoche ignored it for an additional 3-4 days. LaRoche doesn't sound as though he tried to help the situation one bit when he ignored the request of the manager. Apparently it was LaRoche's way or the highway, he chose the highway. In the end I feel everyone involved could have handled this better. 1) KW should have kept his cool the second time he went to LaRoche 2) LaRoche should have at least tried to scale things back after the first talk with KW. He should have adhered to his end of the agreement ( according to his own statement) instead of the my way or the highway nonsense. Typical fight or flight response, bye bye birdy. Go ahead and and go home, Eric Cartman. 3) Sale should have kept his big mouth shut about a clubhouse issue instead of whining to the media in an effort to pled someone's case for them. 4) Eaton, same as Sale. Eaton should reconsider the amount of time he spends on Twitter. Interesting how all of his tweets from Thursday were deleted. 5) Maybe the complaining players/coaches should have tried talking to LaRoche first, although I can see how that would be difficult to do. Tough spot but if the kid being around that often bothers them that much then maybe, in hindsight, it would have been the best first step instead of going to KW. Spot on
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 08:58 AM) it doesn't matter, this is a direct directive from the boss. any other reaction from an employee is called insubordination. anyway when did the employee dictate to the bosses. 100% agree with this. And didnt JR tell EVERYONE to zip it? What the hell is Eaton doing continuing to blab to the media? Player rep or not, the friggin owner told you to STFU.
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 08:43 AM) Could be. It seems it would not take much to get KW to erupt. That might get a lot of people. But if KW wasn't BSing and saying this had to be done now because it is about the next guy who wants all access, how does he explain the locker and uniform? Shouldn't that have been the first to go? Sale said KW couldn't keep his story straight, that he had 3 versions, and KW gave even another to the press, which totally omitted telling LaRoche the kid would have zero access. It is pretty apparent KW wasn't being straight. It might not be the "bald" face lies as Sale referred, but they were statements that KW tried to make himself look like he handled this better than he did. That is exactly what Laroche did as well.
  19. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 08:26 AM) kW can ask but if Adam says no, then there is an agreement in place. You can ask John Danks to take a pay cut, but if he says no, you don't give him a pay cut. Whether or not this agreement is in writing, there seems to be enough sources, even a pro KW source confirming the White Sox agreed to this. The locker, the uniform, more proof Drake was granted more access. If KW or a coach thinks it's a bad deal, and didn't want the kid around, another thing the could have done is just released LaRoche, but then they would have had to pay. And then they changed their mind. Which is their right
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 19, 2016 -> 06:38 AM) It states the White Sox agreed to Drake being around as much as LaRoche wished. It states KW did tell him there was zero access. KW could ask him to "dial it back" but if he had an agreement and didn't want to "dial it back" whether you think it is the right thing to do or not, it doesn't matter, he shouldn't have to "dial it back". The White Sox should be held to their agreement. LaRoche said the White Sox did their due diligence when he made this request. That totally lines up with what Rick Hahn said at Soxfest 2015. I just hope for those who go by "things change", you don't get a job someday where there is no contract, agree to a certain salary and when you get your first check the numbers don't add up. That happened to me many years ago. Believe me, things change won't fit the narrative when you are the one who was lied to. The BS about his being on the field and getting hurt doesn't add up. He has been there over a year. If that was such a concern why wouldn't they have addressed this sooner instead of coming back to spring training giving him his own locker and uniform? I will hang up and listen for my answer. It's because players and coaches complained. Multiple media sources are reporting this specifically. Kenny mangled the rollout on it is the real issue, and Sale's half assed flapping to the press is what's fanning the flames.
  21. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 11:02 PM) I think it depends on if he had an agreement or a clause in his contract. If he did then he was well within his right to ignore KW. If he didn't then LaRoche will have caused most of this. The only person I will believe about the agreement at this point is JR. KW can't be trusted, neither can LaRoche. Sums it all up perfectly. I would add that if Laroche was belligerently blowing off KW for the past week, it's a pathetic thing to do in front of your kid and certainly shows zero leadership traits. And it also makes it perfectly acceptable grounds for the Sox to alter or call off any agreement previously made with Laroche if he was being a giant dick about the request. Unless it was in writing of course, which I highly, highly doubt.
  22. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 10:37 PM) KW didn't leak the story tho....he responded once s*** had already hit the fan due to the media. KW did his job here. LaRoche was too proud to take his employers advice. Good riddance. Everyone is happy and the Sox no longer have the sunk cost that is Adam LaRoche on the payroll. It's really a great situation for the Sox and their fans. Absolutely agree with the bolded text above. Kenny did not make a statement until AFTER it was leaked that the reason was the kid, etc., in an attempt to defend the organization. And there's no doubt in my mind that part was leaked by the Laroche camp to get out in front of the spin machine and make KW look like the isolated bad guy.
  23. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 10:31 PM) KW asked Adam several times to keep Drake off the field during drills as the org would be liable for any injury that occurred to his boy. Adam flat out refused time and again to a belligerent degree. That is what set off Kenny and he wasn't the only one that was concerned. Ironically Kenny was more concerned about Drake's safety than Mr. #FamilyFirst. That's what some need to know about LaRoche's behavior. If this is truth, then screw Laroche. And I believe it largely is.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 18, 2016 -> 10:26 PM) Haha whatever. The admins can suspend me if they don't like it. The lack of logic around the past few days here is amazing. There's just no point to be insulting, or being a dick, to others posting opinions. Pretty common perspective friend.
