  1. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Feb 26, 2016 -> 12:21 PM) Fowler 'not leaving money on the table' is predicated by the scenario that he can ultimately exceed the 3/$33 million he potentially could've received from Baltimore, I get that. A lot can happen in a year though, and who knows A) what the QO situation will be like next off season, and B) the actual #'s on any prospective deal he may sign after 2016. In fact, if Fowler leaves the Chubs after 2016 ($13 million banked) and for argument's sake he then signs a 2 year/$20 million dollar guaranteed deal next off-season, that would put him at the $33 million he could've gotten from Baltimore. All said and done, he ends up with the team he never wanted to leave, and has a good chance at being part of a successful team in 2016.
  2. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Feb 26, 2016 -> 12:08 PM) Because you look at it on a year by year basis. If one guy signed a 4 year $100 million but another team offered him 5 years $105 million deal would you say he left money on the table? 3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Feb 26, 2016 -> 10:46 AM) He didn't really leave any $$ on the table though. Thought he had both a 2 year/$24 million'ish and a 3 year/$3 million-ish offer that he could've signed. Signing with the Chubs guarantees him only $13 million...what am I missing?
  4. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 26, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) Thanks Omar. I would think the players union isn't too thrilled that Fowler left so much $$ on the table.
  5. Rollins most likely will do the same thing for the Sox that he did last season for the Dodgers. Keep the seat warm for Anderson in either late 2016, or to start 2017. I think Rollins was a great pick-up for the mentoring aspect of things.
  6. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Feb 26, 2016 -> 10:23 AM) I haven't heard from anyone on this league in a week or so, and the draft is scheduled to begin tonight. Are we still on? Anyone? Bueller? Ok, scratch that, I see the draft order is up and we start at 7pm eastern tonight. I happen to pick 1st so I will be ready to go by 7:15 at the latest. Thanks!

  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 03:10 PM) Sure seems like Austin Jackson has limited options right now. Really only see WSox, Rangers, Angels and Indians. Indians, Rangers and Angels supposedly don't have payroll space. Baltimore?
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 25, 2016 -> 12:43 PM) Pulling a DeAndre. Liar is a pretty strong word for someone who never signed a contract. O's confirm this.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 06:39 PM) I said it in another thread but Hahn did Avi no favors with his comments after the Frazier deal. Also I dislike LaRoche way more than Avi. Avi always hustles....LaRoche just sucked last year. For sure. Hard to hate on a guy that hustles like Avi. Frustrated much of the time yes, but as a fan I appreciate Avi's effort.
  11. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 06:32 PM) I really can't answer your question, as I have no idea of the intricacies of the White Sox finances. I'd guess that they would've been in on him in the $20-$25 million range though. Just a guess. A day ago the report was 'O's are close with Fowler on 2 yr/$24 million offer'. Suddenly it became a 3 year deal and done. I bet the O's had competition at 2 years, quite possibly from the Sox, and therefore upped it to 3 years to get it done, especially once the Gallardo deal fell through. They obviously didn't want to end up missing on both.
  12. QUOTE (Tony @ Feb 23, 2016 -> 05:50 PM) The Sox personal finances should have nothing to do with you judging the price a player recieves on the open market. They are two separate items and need to be looked at as such. A little over 11 million dollars a year for three seasons of a 29 year old Dexter Fowler is something the Sox should have been all over based on value alone, not to mention the glaring need on this team for a RF and a top of the order hitter. I've backed off Fowler of late so I'm ok with not signing him, but it's hard to argue with the above...
  13. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 11:55 PM) to me, there was really no intention of signing any big FA or OF'er this yr, he says it right there, in the bold. they are done. I think they would've paid for a top tier/elite OF, but in terms defined by the Sox. The contracts ultimately signed by those elite level players exceeded the Sox internally defined parameters.
  14. QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 08:05 PM) I am really really hoping they didn't offer him a lot of playing time. A career NL player on the downside of his career and the sox sign this guy and promise him playing time? Ridiculous. I'd be happier with Tyler. No one is going to guarantee playing time AND offer only a minor league deal at the same time. The Sox offer Rollins an opportunity to get significant playing time at not only SS but also 2B, but he's got to earn the roster spot. I hope he sticks, I believe he would be a good mentor to the Sox young SS in Saladino and ultimately Anderson. He could have as big a role off the field/in the dugout as he does on the field in that regard. And he's a switch hitter to boot
  15. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 04:13 PM) Yep. Three guys to cover the position over the course of the year. Vastly different levels experience/current ability/potential. And no reason to do anything other than give the playing time to whoever is playing best. Smart move (which I predicted). And some people wanted to pick up Alexei's $10 million option. Some people were for turning down the option and bringing back Lexi at the Sox price tag, that's how I remember it.
  16. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) Then why didn't Rollins get a guaranteed MLB contract if the Sox are that confident in Rollins being the starting SS? Nothing in Hahn's comments indicate Rollins is a sure thing to start at SS. He's betting on his own skill, like many free agents out there.
  17. QUOTE (asindc @ Feb 22, 2016 -> 12:53 PM) I don't think he is ignoring it. I agree--why some equate 'no transaction yet' with 'the team has completely ignored this need' is beyond me. There is still PLENTY of time to bring in another outfielder, and also plenty of options still available. This is how you should play/approach a buyer's market.
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 20, 2016 -> 04:45 PM) Don't think it's that surprising. We know Eaton and Garcia are 2 of the few players who can hit over 100mph. I do think it's funny people will still argue against Eatons arm simply because he's a small "grindy" leadoff man. He would easily handle RF if need be. Agree 100%. Little guy has a great arm, for any size OFer.
  19. QUOTE (kevo880 @ Feb 19, 2016 -> 06:52 PM) In response to the first paragraph, all of those moves were applauded when they happened. The sox won the offseason. I somewhat agree they are over compensating for their mistakes, but I also think they learned a lesson that most teams don't build a winner by building through FA. I think they are doing the best they can to put a very competitive team on the field while trying to build from within. That is why they wouldn't part with Fulmer or Anderson or the 3 top 50 picks. Well put. SOx are definitely an improved ballclub as we sit here heading into camp. And opening day isn't tomorrow, I'd be very surprised if an OF isn't brought in shortly. And no thanks if the rumor is true that Fowler is looking for 4 years (!) or $45 million, plus the loss of a pick.
  20. QUOTE (Baron @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 08:39 PM) Nope...Fowler has given up about 32 runs the past 2 years. I read somewhere that most of Fowler's leaked runs were due to throwing issues. As long as he underhand rolls the ball back in, we should be good
  21. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 06:40 PM) This is such a load of crap. So they were in on Cespedes and Gordon but suddenly have no money? At least say something halfway intelligent sounding like "White Sox were willing to spend for one of the big three but are now looking to be creative." I think this could actually be the case; they were willing to over extend for the caliber of player that Gordon/Cespedes are, but they aren't going out of their comfort zone for the next tier of guys. Problem is that doesn't leave them in a good spot, in theory; now tight with the wallet and also not having a ton of tradeable assets to swing a deal.
  22. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 05:37 PM) then, in that case, the sox can get all the laroche and avi on the team. failure to over pay.... that is the story of the sox history on the present ownership. Pretty much. Their way of thinking in terms of market specifics has left them clutching air more often than not of late; Shark, Laroche, Dunn to some degree all seemed like winning moves in when initially made...and then they took the field and splat. The 2016 White Sox need a Jim Thome clone.
  23. QUOTE (shipps @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 03:49 PM) Which is bizarre if you ask me. Why would they want to deplete their farm anymore than what already was a weak system? Hahn is obviously an extremely bright individual. He has gone to the best schools and had succeeded in the highest levels of management. But from the outside it seems like he has no real plan or direction of exactly what he wants to do. He seemingly wants moves to come to him and if they dont then he will rationalize it like he never wanted it in the first place. This cant be the case but its how I see it in my head. I don't necessarily feel that way. Everyone who is b****ing and moaning about Hahn seems to be upset because things are going to plan according to their own personal perspective. Pretty sure the Sox have a basic contract structure in mind on each individual player, and if the price and years intersect with their range, then they try to strike. Just because the fans want the Sox to sign player A doesn't mean Hahn is going to overextend to land that player. Whether it's a successful strategy in 2016, only time will tell.
  24. QUOTE (Dunt @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) f*** yes to all of this. Couldnt have been too serious if neither ever seriously considered them. They can pay it lip service all they want, but this will be a failure we will all remember for a very long time. The first second Avi and the team fails this year, it will get poured on hard. No contending team would have Avi as a starter, plain and simple. Time will tell on Avi. Too much doom and gloom in this take though; just because a free agent doesn't pick the Sox, it isn't automatically a failure per say. Sox would no doubt consider it a failure to overpay on a guy and have it hinder them in the future. Depends on the perspective.
  25. 2/$20 million would obviously be a steal, and if those were the terms of current offers then there would be many more suitors than just the Sox in on the bidding. The market MIGHT end up there, but it's not there yet. Maybe 3 years/$35 with an opt out after year 2 gets it done before the sharks start to gather? Even those terms would be a bargain; it's looking more and more like Fowler might end up as one of the best bargains on the FA market by the time he signs.
