QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 08:57 PM) That Monday afternoon makeup grand slam vs. Detroit to clinch the Blackout game was epic. Yes it was. I recall finding a seat on craigslist on lunch, taking the rest of the day off and losing my s*#t when Lexi launched that slam. A no doubter

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 06:39 PM) I can believe Baltimore is offering 5 years but I think Crasnick is way off on the dollar amount. That proposed offer is in the range of what Gordon got and Cespedes should get more than that. Unless the offer is for 3/4 years 75-90M range, that would make more sense. Crasnick's numbers don't jive that's for sure. I could see the offer being a front loaded 3/75 guaranteed with a 4th yr option to bump it to 90.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 06:09 PM) I hear ya, I'm really intrigued as well. The Rockies have the money and opening at 1B but I'm not so sure they would match or exceed the 7/150M Baltimore offered. Boras is one of the best at what he does but I think he and Davis were stupid for turning down the Baltimore offer. Imo, Boras selling Davis as a corner outfielder in a market flooded with outfielders is a desperate attempt to gain interest from more teams, and its failing. Rox or anyone else wont have to match 7 yrs, etc if Balt signs Cespedes

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 06:27 PM) I will say this, if the Orioles land Cespedes for a contract in that range, then I'm going to f***ing enraged. I will say the same as above, particularly if we get outbid by 5 mill or something like that

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
blackmooncreeping replied to blackmooncreeping's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What option would you rather choose? Sign Fowler and Jackson, move Melky to DH, lose comp pick. Sign Desmond and Jackson, lose comp pick. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:12 PM) Also walked over 80 times, had a 346 obp, 17 HRs, 46 RBIs, and 20 SBs out of the leadoff spot I like the other stats, but that's a ton of K's for a 2 hitter. Roughly almost one-third of his AB's were either a walk or K, wow, seems odd. -

QUOTE (bear_brian @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 01:04 PM) Although Fowler has his warts, he does bring a high OBP, speed, switch hitting (would be the 4th for the Sox), and some ability (certainly more than Garcia) to play adequate defense in any OF position. It really huts to be giving up a pick for him, but if they could combine a Fowler acquisition with a RH starter, then we would be substantially better than last year, and would certainly be able to contend within the division. Maybe I am just rationalizing at this point ... Fowler alone doesn't do much to move the needle. Fowler and a pitcher would be great, assuming the dollars work for the Sox. Not sure of the quality of pitcher you're going to get that doesn't also have a QO attached to him tho... -
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 12:47 PM) The idea of trading for Jay Bruce has just made me a bigger fan of the idea in signing Fowler. I'm not a fan of giving up the comp pick for Fowler but IMHO its a better idea than trading for Bruce. No thanks, Bruce is on the downslide, barely hit .200 and...just no.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 12:18 PM) Alexei playing elsewhere is one of those things that won't hit me, until it truly happens. I just suspect that once he reaches an agreement with Pads, he's going to call Sox up and see what they'll do. If he is to go elsewhere, I'm very grateful for the 8 years he gave to the Sox and will always cheer for him. I agree, I would bet Lexi circles back and gives the Sox one more call before inking with SD

Dexter Fowler as a secondary option

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 12:17 PM) So how do you stack your batting order if Fowler is indeed the option? Eaton L Fowler S Abreu R Frazier R Melky S LaRoche L Lawrie R Avila L Saladino R Fowler S Eaton L Abreu R Frazier R LaRoche L Melky S Lawrie R Avila L Saladino R Interesting to note the spots in the batting order where Melky has been best: 1st .287/.349/.404 2nd .284/.331/.412 3rd .338/.375/.513 4th .281/.339/.456 5th .269/.333/.346 6th .253/.303/.345 7th .273/.350/.401 8th .243/.301/.359 9th .297/.338/.408 How would you feel about this lineup? Fowler S Eaton L Cabrera S Abreu R Frazier R LaRoche L Lawrie R Avila L Saladino/Anderson R Should have Abreu hitting 3rd, period, then fill the others in around him. Melky shouldn't get the 1st inning/extra AB over Jose imo. -
Dexter Fowler as a secondary option
blackmooncreeping replied to blackmooncreeping's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Regarding losing a pick, what would be your preference if given these 2 choices: Sign Desmond & Jackson, lose pick, gain approx. 30 hrs. Melky still in LF Sign Fowler & Jackson, lose pick, gain approx. 20 hrs. Move Melky to dh On a side note, I'd like to see the Sox kick the tires on Steve Pearce. Guy can rake LHP and could platoon between OF/DH. -
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 10:57 AM) Seems like another twitter bulls***'er trying to justify his credibility. Doubt this has any weight. This guy has a measure of credibility, more so than any of the others who have posted bits on twitter. I hope to hell it's bad info, but not sure why you are calling BS on him tho.

Wouldn't surprise me at all to see Cespedes sign a 2 year deal with the mets and re-enter the market at 31-32 years of age.

Marlins sign Dee Gordon to 5 year/$50 million deal
blackmooncreeping replied to OmarComing25's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is a great deal, Gordon for $10 million a year? Batting average & stolen base champion, and had very good defensive #'s last season. That is a bargain and a half at $10 million/year. Hypothetically, would you rather be paying Gordon $50 for 5 seasons of control, or Cespedes/Upton at $50 million for just 2 seasons? Strong case can be made either way imo. -
The next market inefficiency...2nd/3rd tier pitching

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 08:39 PM) That's who I was thinking that the Sox might have an interest in. Not sure if he'd get a ML contract though. Minor league deal or is someone willing to put him in the rotation from the get go at this time ? Not sure on what kind of deal Lincecum ends up landing, maybe a minor league with a spring training invite, or possibly even a low AAV contract loaded with performance incentives. Whatever happens, I'd bet there will be a lot of interest in his eventual workout/showcase day, if he ends up having one. I'd sign him in a heartbeat if he looks halfway decent, but there will most likely be multiple suitors so who knows... -
QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 05:33 PM) Weird than Rosenthal didn't include a 4th year in that tweet. Makes me wonder if he's already lowering down into a 4/5 year expectation. I'd think he wants at least a 4 year guaranteed contract, probably with a 5th year option. The 1st team to offer 4 years guaranteed is most likely to land him imo.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 01:47 PM) He was a .240 hitter away from Coors... SO were most of the 2015 White Sox lol

Hawk and Stone get multi-year extensions
blackmooncreeping replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (scs787 @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) Hawk and Stone on the road and 3 home games, Benetti and Stone for all other home games. You'd think Hawk would rather do home games and cut out the travel. Wonder what 3 home games Hawk will be doing. Cubs? Or maybe the series where Stone takes off for Yom Kippur? Hawk will probably work the home opener and the Cubs series imo. Being on the road is actually less travel than Hawk; you go to any city and spend 3 days there at a time, as opposed to driving to and from each and every home game from Indiana. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 10:04 PM) I'm sorry, but in what world is CarGo worth anything close to Q & Rodon? They may have asked for Q originally but it was a stupid ask and it would be an ever dumb ask now. That's what I'm thinking/hoping as well. If they can acquire CarGo for less than that as the centerpiece, then maybe we can bring in Jackson as well to play LF. Colorado has Mark Reynolds penciled in at first I think, hardly a defensive guy. Is there a way we can convince them to take Laroche & cash in a deal, he could either platoon with Reynolds, or at least be able to spell him defensively in the late innings and lefty hitter off the bench. I'm guessing we would need to include a better prospect if they're going to take on Laroche...what would get that deal done?

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 09:54 PM) Unless someone takes LaRoche's salary, which doesn't appear to be possible at this point, I think he is going to be a part of the starting lineup from the start of the season (at least against RHP). Unless the Sox end up bringing in 2 outfielders, I think you're unfortunately correct. If that's the case, I'm willing to give Laroche the first month to hit against righties; if he still sucks then cut bait. I just really hope that's NOT the case.
-
What about a 3 or 4 year offer with the 1st 2 years being guaranteed of $20m/$25/$25/$20 with a player opt out after the 2nd year? Does Cespedes, or Upton for that matter, sign that if offered? Would that do it, or would someone beat that offer?

QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 09:37 PM) You wanna put some positions in your lineup? You have 4 outfielders, a dh, and no second baseman. That would be a pretty odd lineup. My bad, I meant to put Lawrie and typed Laroche instead. You could possibly bat Lawrie or Jackson in the 2 hole in order to drop Melky back to 5th or 6th, but I think they might K too much to be an effective #2 hitter. cf-Eaton dh-Melky 1b-Abreu rf-CarGo 3b-Frazier 2b-Lawrie c-Avila/Navarro lf-Jackson ss-Saladino

Sox Players Filing for Arbitration
blackmooncreeping replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 09:34 PM) Problem is, who replaces Danks in the Sox rotation? I think the Sox need Danks to be honest due to the lack of starting pitching depth. One crazy idea could be something like Avi and EJ for Blackmon. Instead of signing Cespedes, use that money to sign Jackson and a SP. Jackson CF, Eaton LF, Blackmon RF, Melky DH, LaRoche bench bat and Avi- he gawn! I know, its a bit of a stretch. Blackmon would be a good get. I'd actually prefer him to CarGo but I'm figuring the price on Blackmon would be higher and less likely -
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 09:22 PM) I love the idea but JR would need to open up his wallet. We're talking about adding CarGo's '16 salary of 17M + Jackson's salary 8/9M ( speculating) to the payroll that already sits at 119M and ending up at about 145M total. Kind of a stretch, IMHO. Edit: we can knock that total down to around 140/141M because I did not take into account trading Avi's speculated arbitration salary. Still seems to be a stretch. Purely speculative, but I think JR could be convinced to bump payroll to $140 million for the "right guy", aka Cespedes or Upton, or a combo of trade (CarGo) and FA (Jackson). That would be a pretty good lineup: Eaton Melky Abreu CarGo Frazier Laroche Avila/Navarro Jackson Saladino
