  1. QUOTE (quickman @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 12:34 PM) If this were the case why wouldn't that have been a packaged deal in the last trade? Because now they can trade Francoeur for Grenkie and need a RF to replace him?
  2. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 12:11 PM) WFAN apparently said the braves were in serious talks over dye. When were the braves in talks about Dye? This morning or 3 weeks ago? If the Braves trade Francoeur for Grenkie who do they have lined up to be thier RF? Who else would the Sox want from the Braves?
  3. QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 11:09 PM) Sorry to disappoint you, But I think this guy wins the prize LOL Where the heck did you dig that card up from!
  4. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 11:50 PM) they have to spend some money on free agents. its inevitable. unfortunately i just dont see a big named guy coming our way. but you never know with KW True. He likes big name guys though and he thinks big. I'm just glad the article didn't say "We are poor, broke, busted. The Sox will be lucky to survive the eminent complete collapse of the global financial system. POOR like that Kenny kid from South Park man! Don't you get it we have no f****** money to pay players. Any money I save in dumping salary will go toward my own golden parachute severance package when the MLB folds. I do have some good news. Kenny Williams Jr. has been extended to a 20 year 350 million dollar contract." I'll stick by my prediction. Furcal.
  5. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 11:10 PM) http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune....us-quo-not.html This part got my attention
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 10:59 PM) Just met Ozzie...got a picture with him...Kenny was calling him just as I met him... Cool! Have a good time! Did you try to eavesdrop?
  7. He looks to be in pretty good shape. He seems like a big guy (not fat) for a third baseman. He doesn't strike me as someone who would be quick. I think we are gonna love this guy where ever he ends up playing for the Sox.
  8. QUOTE (Wanne @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 08:39 PM) See...I can see people wanting the best for JD...but this is a business...and Kenny is boss and JD is an employee. Not too familiar with many businesses that consult with their employees before they make business decisions. True, however, would it be honorable if your boss told you not to worry about your job and that you were important to the business and then the next day he laid you off to save the business money? JD honored an agreement with KW and signed with the Sox even after Texas offered more money. He's our World Series MVP who resigned for less than he could have gotten on the open market. He deserves to be dealt with as a VIP. I guess I still feel a man's word means something. I hope this is some sort of smoke screen that I don't understand or that Gammons misunderstood a second hand conversation.
  9. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 08:32 PM) And KW told Gio to his face that he wouldn't trade him. Guess what he did after that... I don't know what to think. JD would deserve better than to be lied to.
  10. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) Williams said the Sox don't need to trade Jermaine Dye, but "we'll just wait and see what this week brings us." Translation - Bye JD. From Cowley Crowley's Twitter stream. Crowley Twitter The translation is Crowley's.
  11. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 08:14 PM) peter gammons reports that ozzie talked to dye and said he wont be traded and is needed for this team Wow. That is surprising to hear. Now what happens if someone offers Kenny a great offer?
  12. JOSE JOSE JOSE... Jose..Jose! I admit it. I was a big fan of Jose(must have been the mustache). DAMN YOU ROYCE CLAYTON!
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 07:23 PM) even Geoff Blum were more integral. OK. You lost me there. No love for Crazy Carl again. I wonder how beloved he would be if he believed in dinosaurs?
  14. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 07:16 PM) Reds are close to trading Freel to the O's. I think a move like that opens salary room for them and is a possible prelude to the Dye-Bailey move. Rosenthal is reporting a Freel for Henandez swap. That won't open any salary unfortunately. I have a feeling there are going to be a lot more sellers than buyers. I'd be very nervous if I were a 2nd tier free agent like Crede, Uribe, or Cabrera. See Rosenthal 7:50 Update
  15. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 06:59 PM) Just an indication on how the FA market has fallen, NY papers report that Mets initial offer to K-Rod was 2y/$25M (plus option). Pretty incredible considering he was seeking 5/$75M. Makes me wonder about where the market for corner OF'ers and second-tier SP will be. These guys better sign quickly or there could be a collapse in the market and there will be a lot of 4-7 million dollar players gettin 2-3 mil. KW was ahead of the curve again to save some salary so he could buy in the down market just like he was ahead of the PED crackdown. We have a very good GM.
  16. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 06:58 PM) Zero White Sox news being reported, maybe Kenny's still hungover. KW has a cell phone in each hand and Rich Hahn is holding a 3rd.
  17. Rosenthal Update Philly - Peavy possibility and Philly Delmon Young mention. Rosenthal Updates
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 06:45 PM) Good for CC if he does sign there and declines bigger deals elsewhere. He hits too well to go to the American league. Man, that would piss of the Yankees and their gazillions. I doubt the Dodgers would want to pay for both CC and Manny. It may make Furcal less likely to go back as well. The Dodgers are must be chatty. There is a lot of news coming out of L.A.
  19. QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 03:04 PM) Corey hit .205 last year with a .238 OBP and a .582 OPS. What 'upside' do you see? He's horrible. We ought to pool our money together and buy him a one-way plane ticket to Japan just to make sure he doesn't end up here. Fair enough. Point taken. Let him go to Japan. I'm just digging for bargains for the Sox and I really want more team speed. The upside I hoped for was the 2006 season he had with Baltimore where he hit .276 with 45 bags and some pop.
  20. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 02:09 PM) is this what we've come to, serious discussions about corey patterson? You are right this is CRAZY talk. The Sox have Wise to build around. I'm not talking about trading JD for Patterson. Picking him off the scrap heap and trying to recycle him sounds like a plan that has little risk with some possible benefit. Is some of the Patterson hate due to a ex-cub factor? I know I was sick of hearing about him 5-6 years ago, but fail to see how he is that much worse than Tavares and he would cost practically nothing. Why not throw him in the mix.
  21. QUOTE (1399 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 02:15 PM) Ummmm, no. I am just like everyone else in that I have two favorite teams, the Sox and who ever the cubs play so nice try. As for trying to piss people off. Thats not it at all. I have opinions and are entitled to them just like everyone else. Just because my opinion on this matter is different from the rest doesnt make me a cub fan or less of a Sox fan. Then welcome 1399. You are entitled to your opinion. However, being a Sox fan, I'm sure you can understand why so many here would value Dye even if you do not share that opinion. Please understand that if you choose to express your opinions, they will be responded to by rabid Sox fans as yourself who will be feeling bad about one of their favorite players. I happen to agree with the opinion that Dye has been huge for the Sox and that his accomplishments have be UNDERVALUED because of his quiet demeanor. If a trade makes the Sox better for next year and years to come, the KW has to do his job. Anyway, welcome! This week should be exciting and there will be plenty of other things to talk about. I have a great and wise quote from 29th and Popular in my sig that may come in handy for us now.
  22. QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 01:03 PM) Juan Pierre demanded a trade, BTW, according to Rosenthal I don't think Pierre is good enough to demand things. I could see him coming back to the Sox in a trade. The Sox want speed and a leadoff hitter. Ozzie won a ring in Florida with him. It could be worked out so that Pierre's salary offset some of JD's so that it might entice the Dodgers to give up better talent because they do not have to take on so much salary. If the Sox get a guy who they feel is a solid leadoff hitter and some young talented pitching, I could see KW giving this serious consideration. The Dodger's Jermaine Dye and get rid of Pierre and his trade demand. They could let Manny walk and go after CC.
  23. How about this to ponder. Would you rather trade for Taveres or pick up Patterson and not give up any talent? If the Sox want speed and he dropped Boras, Patterson is a possibility.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) I'd much rather have Anderson. Wise is better than Patterson. I'd keep Anderson. Wise is better? Really? I disagree. Patterson is no all star, but he did all right for Baltimore in 2006. His OBP sucks but he is better than Wise in my opinion. He hit .276 with 45 SB and 16 HR in 2006 against some good AL East opponents. Patterson Stats
  25. Why not? The Sox would be adding speed and buying low on a player who once had great potential. If he turns out to be a malcontent or truly unable to play, the the Sox can just release him. He might just fit in nicely batting 9th sometime depending upon who gets traded or signed. Would you rather have Patterson or Wise?
