  1. He will get updates from KW sent to his blackberry.
  2. Very interesting. Instead of batting Q second, I would bat Thome there. He sees a lot of pitches, has a high OBP, and he hits the ball to the right side almost ALL of the time. He's slow, but so is AJ. Too bad he strikes out so much.
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 02:25 PM) Game is on 670 also....first four innings, then they take calls. Others pitching today: Randy Williams, Ehren Wassermann, Mike MacDougal, and Jon Van Benschoten. The Indians are salivating upon this announcement. Somebody should call them and when it is your turn to ask a question, ask them what is going on in the game.
  4. I can't argue with the negatives about Rodriguez. However, catcher is the one position that if the Sox suffered a major injury, there would not be someone in the organization that would be able to adequately fill the void of losing AJ. Flowers is clearly a defensive liability until he gets some minor league experience. Having Rodriguez catch and DH could win the Sox a few more games which could be the difference even if AJ stays healthy. If AJ gets hurt, Rodriguez could save the season. I know the free agent market is down, but the Sox paid 2.25 million for Toby Hall. If they sign IRod cheap enough and some steroid story comes out or he is a clubhouse cancer, then just release him.
  5. May the best player win. May the second best player be versatile enough to be the utility man. May the next best guy be ripping the cover off of the ball in Charlotte chomping at the bit to get a shot if someone stumbles. I'm no longer worried about second base. I'm more worried about Fields and the CF battle. So far, I think it will end up with Nix starting, Getz at utility, and Lillibridge heading to the minors. Beckham will get some time in the minors even if he has a great spring.
  6. I see nothing wrong with it. Sox is synonymous with win.
  7. I heard he was only hitting 43 mph and having trouble getting the ball all the way to AJ.
  8. I hope they known what they are doing. I'd rather have a healthy Count in June than two rushed starts in April and an unfortunate injury.
  9. If there are any members of Soxtalk actually attending the game today, we'd love updates or a recap.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 08:05 AM) I wonder if MLB.com or ESPN or CSN or someone will have the live box score I can keep up with at work. The online streaming audio might not be blacked out since it is only a spring training game.
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 25, 2009 -> 07:57 AM) Let's go Sox!! The sweet sounds of Spring Training begin today! I've been looking forward to today for a long time. This should be an interesting competitive spring training that hopefully will lead into an exciting successful season. I'm so glad that 670 will have the game. I wasn't even sure that we would get a box score for this one and I was just hoping that a Soxtalk members would be there and tell us their first hand impressions. Play Ball!
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 05:33 PM) Classic games. Can be somewhat edited for time if you want. But if I'm sitting around on a Sunday now that football's over and the only thing on is the Spurs playing whoever, and Don Larsen's perfect game is on, or one of Willy Mays's better games is on, or just about anything like that, there's a reasonable chance I'm tuning in to the baseball game. They've got to have like 60 years of footage right now right? How many great games are there per season? I agree, but I don't want them so edited that it distracts from the flow of the game. They don't even have to be historic games, just interesting games that allow us to see great players from the past. I want to Vida Blue pitch for the A's against the Baltimore in the early 70's, or stuff like that.
  13. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 05:29 PM) Question for you fans of MLB network - what kind of programming would you like to see, other than the obvious gameday/studio updates? I'd enjoy a prospect centered show and a minor league game of the week not to see who wins but to scout. I'd also like to see games of the week or highlight shows centered on one player's career, like a hall of fame player of the week show that gets into stats, the era they played in, and video highlights and interview when available. I'd like to see each team have a highlight show so if the Sox were playing Baltimore in an upcoming series, I could watch Orioles weekly wrap up or each division could have an hour. I'd want every team covered equally. If the Royals suck, show what few highlights they have and then show why they suck. I'm sick of Yank/Sawks tv and I want mlb network to be about all teams. I'd like a this year in baseball show for every year in the history of baseball. I'd like a show of milestones or record breakers show. I'd like re-runs of this week in baseball from 20 years ago at 3 am.
  14. QUOTE (scenario @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) It's probably more that Denard Span's development + Cuddyer coming back from injury creates a logjam in the outfield. Somebody is going to sit... or get traded. And Young may be the guy who they feel: a.) they are most willing to move b.) they might get the most for in a deal c.)he's not a piranha
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 10:29 AM) for whatever reason, rebuilding teams generally don't like to bring in 35 year old players. It makes more sense as the Sox wanting a 10 million dollar 5-14 Washburn for TCQ. Obviously the rumor is really about the Twins and Young. I'm just trying to guess what KW is up to if the Abreu offer is true. Man, when is spring training?
  16. QUOTE (BearSox @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 08:35 AM) It'll be funny if the rumor we all dismiss right away as BS is the rumor that comes true. I agree that this is garbage though. If it is true, the had better announce it after rush hour so people don't drive off of the road when they hear the news on the radio.
  17. Bob Costas >>> Harold Reynolds and I like Harold. Great move.
  18. I wonder if the Mariners are on Dye's no trade list. Maybe there's a deal possible with them but not for TCQ. I think KW would trade TCQ if he were to get the right package and that package would have to begin with MLB proven stud starting pitching with lots of years before free agency. In other words, not very likely to happen. Why would you give up one of the best young hitters in baseball for guys like Washburn when there are cheap free agent pitchers available. If this rumor is not complete bs, then they must mean a trade around Dye.
  19. I'd welcome Abreu for 8 million. I agree that he will be nice batting leadoff or second in front of TCQ. If this move does happen, there almost has to be another move. I'm sure that will get the rumor mill going around here. How difficult is it for an outfielder to switch to 1b? If Konerko is moved, could Dye or Abreu play 1st without killing the infield defense?
  20. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jan 28, 2009 -> 11:47 PM) It's probably something really f***ing lame and insulting which the board will go crazy over and treat as something special, like a pre-taped message from the new president talking about how he's looking forward to the season. In fact I'd be surprised if they don't do something lame and hokey like that. Actually, that sounds pretty cool to me.
  21. Good article about KW. Another good reclamation project would be that Brian Anderson guy. If he could only play where he is comfortable and given a second chance, he could be pretty valuable.
  22. It could be a misdirection of what KW's real plan at 3b is.
  23. I wish the best for Josh. Could these articles be to increase his trade value?
  24. Great news! Maybe Konerko can take the ball to first himself when Contreras is on the mound. Come on Paully. Pick the ball and jog a few steps to the bag instead of waiting to toss the ball to your pitcher sprinting towards first base and the oncoming runner. Sometimes that is the correct play, but Paul can take some of those himself. What would we do with a healthy Count, Colon, and Garcia? Buehrle has some experience out of the pen right?
