If Getz were put into the leadoff spot
103 mph screwball replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There are many options but Wise leading off is a mistake. I would rather Thome lead off and be on base for TCQ. Wise/Anderson should bat 9th. Who would you want getting more at bats this year, Ramirez or Wise? No brainer. Also, I was wr-wr-wr-wrong about Fields. I thought KW would trade him. Fields is different this year. Hitting to right field in the spring, bunting, more singles, higher average is not what I expected from HR or K Fields. Josh needs more AB's too. Fields/Ramirez should not bat 8th or 9th. I know Ozzie wants better production from the lower third of the lineup. I do too, but you don't do that at the expense of your upper third! Why? because they bat more often. C'mon Ozzie. I would try this Getz Ramirez TCQ Thome Konerko Dye Fields AJ Anderson -
Comcast will show the Black Out one game playoff vs. the Twins instead for those of us with the day off today.
-
Well, the lucky fans who get to go to the game will have nicer weather. I took a day off for today, but I have to work tomorrow. Looks like I will be recording the game and keeping away from the radio and Soxtalk until I can watch it tomorrow night. I'm not too disappointed or anything. I have only been counting down to opening day for about three months.

I want the media to think the Sox have no chance. We know better.

Are the Sox moving Opening Day to Tuesday?
103 mph screwball replied to Controlled Chaos's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (SnB @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 06:55 PM) i have monday off to go and don't know if i can take tuesday off as well. They better play! Yep, I took Monday off of work months ago. Tuesday is not an option. Play Ball! By the way, opening day should be a national holiday. -
The Official Bring Back Scotty Pods Thread
103 mph screwball replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd bring Pods back and send him to the minors in case Wise doesn't succeed. Pods > Owens. If Pods can't land with a major league team, the Sox would make sense due to the unsettled CF and leadoff hitter situation. Besides, he's a legacy, we gotta let him in. We'll call him Flounder. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 04:15 PM) Anderson with another hit. The fact he's actually producing in the leadoff spot might make Ozzie try it more. I would just wish that if Anderson starts producing (where ever that may be in the lineup) just leave him there until he is no longer producing. Don't give Anderson a day off the day after he goes 3 for 4. I hope Ozzie will let him try to get on a roll.

I think Lillibridge will be holding the spot for Nix until after the quad heals. Nix showed too much bat to let him walk because of an ouchy.

White Sox vs Arizona 3-26 spring game
103 mph screwball replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2009 Season in Review
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 26, 2009 -> 04:38 PM) Well Bartolo Colon is 10 for 85 for his career, compare that to Corky's 13 for 142 over the last 5 seasons and you may be on to something. Running the bases would be good for Bartolo. -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 26, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) That's what happens when you go 13 for 142 over a 5 year span. It's not out of the realm of possibility that he doesn't get a hit this season. Can the Sox DH for Corky and let the pitchers hit? I'm only half joking. -
Wilson Betemit earning some attention?
103 mph screwball replied to ObamaKnowsBest's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (rangercal @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 10:20 PM) If this hot streak continues it will be hard to ignore (like tcq) . Not saying he will, just saying he will with those type of numbers. Let's see where he stands on May 1st. He is just so valuable at the utility slot and will be an asset as a pinch hitter. I feel so much better about the team with the Fields/getz/betemit situation. A very good problem to have. (hopefully it turns out to be a good problem) Betemit could end up more productive than Swisher at a fraction of the price PLUS the Sox get Marquez and Nunez. KW = Outstanding GM -

Mike MacDougal will figure it out and be a stud. -
Leadoff/2nd hitter in lineup discussion

How did Lillibridge look in center today? I'm at work and didn't get a chance to watch. -
Rosenthal: Melky Cabrera is on the block; Sox would be good fit
103 mph screwball replied to DaTank's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd go with Brian Anderson. -
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 12:39 PM) I think they have finally made the decision that Lillibridge is a better option than Wise and Owens based on his ability to play the infield and outfield. I think Kroeger or Wise makes the team until Nix is ready and then depending on how Getz is doing, Nix will get a look. I think Lillibridge playing CF today is pretty big news to me.

Smart move for Floyd. 15 million should set him up for life unless he spends frivolously. If his arm falls off tomorrow, he is financially secure. He will still have a chance for the 100 million CC contract in the future.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 08:57 AM) The thing is, Nix hasn't played SS since his first year in pro ball which was like 8 years ago, and I wouldn't consider him to be any better than Betemit at SS. After watching Betemit play defense, I'll take my chances with Nix even if he hasn't played SS since little league.
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ Mar 21, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) Why wouldn't Nix be retained? Is he out of options or something? At the very least, he can be sent to Charlotte and play until he is back to 100%, and if we feel Getz needs some more help, especially vs. lefties, we can call up Nix. Yep. Out of options and injured. He seemed like he could hit and had a reputation for being a good fielder. When he started and SS, I thought he was sure to make the team. He would be good Getz insurance or stick off the bench if his quad heals up. Now let's put Getz leading off and solidify the defense with BA in center.
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ Mar 21, 2009 -> 09:55 PM) Hopefully... 1. Getz, 2B (he's gonna have to be a full time starter, vs. lefty and righty. I'll be pissed if we see Ozzie do a dumbass thing and bat BA or Fields leadoff vs. lefties) 2. Ramirez, SS (Ozzie better not make us go through another year with Pierzynski in the 2 hole) 3. Quentin, LF 4. Dye, RF 5. Thome, DH 6. Konerko, 1B 7. Pierzynski, C 8. Fields, 3B 9. Anderson, CF I'm not expecting much out of Getz his rookie year, but I know he's a hell of a lot better than either Wise or Owens. I like it and I think they should give this lineup a shot. Hope the Sox can find a way to keep Nix. They could put Nix on the DL and send Lillibridge down when he is healthy.
-
I wish I knew who had options left. There might be someone who makes it just because they don't want to release him like Masset. I think Egbert has earned a shot.

White Sox @ Diamondbacks, 3/17/09
103 mph screwball replied to Balta1701's topic in 2009 Season in Review
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 05:46 PM) Anderson now 2/4 on the day, up to hitting .263. Getting slowly better. Not bad at all when you consider his outfield assists and defense. Getz or maybe Beckham to lead off and Anderson can bat 9th is sounding like a good plan to me. Screw speed. I dig the stolen base growing up watching Rock Raines, Ricky Henderson, and Vince Coleman, but this team just doesn't have it and can not seem to be able to acquire it for a reasonable price. I have Betemit, Nix, Wise, and Miller going north as well. Nix has shown some talent and I want to keep him despite the quad issues. DL him if needed.
