  1. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 10:45 AM) They were thinking that Delmon Young was one of the best young players in the game and was ready to breakout to elite status. It's not looking like that will happen with the Twins. Young might need a new start with another team. He didn't fit the Twins youngster mold and now he is off his game.
  2. JR to KW: I'm not happy with the CF situation. KW: I'm not either. The price for a CF is crazy. I take personal responsibility. JR: What about Aaron? Can we pry him away from the Giants? KW: I thought we agreed that he's not worth the cash. Besides, I'm right at budget. JR: There is too much talent on this team to not try to win it again. I'm not getting any younger. Get it done Kenny. I'll get the money. KW: I'll call San Fran right now.
  3. 2005 team has been immortalized in a sports fan way. Sox fans at the park with a Ozuna, Widger, or Hermanson jersey on is paying tribute to the team effort.
  4. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 11:24 AM) I would crap my pants if we could get Nate McLouth. Depending on what we had to give up he would be perfect. And to think the Pirates were giving him away before last season.... McLouth would be worth moving some big prospects not named Beckham for and maybe an arm out of the pen. What salary could KW move in a Rowand move to help with the inflated salary? MacDougal of course. Anyone else? Linebrink? Betemit? Dye? How about an outfield of Pods, Rowand, TCQ? What is KW up to?
  5. Ozzie can't say that Owens is just temporary until Pods gets a hit or two, steals a bag, and plays center a couple of games. He has to say it is Owens just in case Pods does suck in AAA or pulls a groin getting out of his car. Ozzie saying that the team wanted Pods back also hints to me that Pods will be on the 25 man soon.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 08:31 AM) It's a wonder what cracking down on PEDs does. Gone are the days of freaks like Tejada and A-Rod making the position something it's not. Keep Alexei at short. He's phenomenal there. Interesting theory about PED's and SS's. Ripkin seemed to start the big shortstop trend. Maybe there will be more Ozzie type SS than Ripkin's.
  7. Fields will offer it to Pods being the nice guy he is. Pods will say thanks but it is yours now and take a new number. Thats how they roll.
  8. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 02:44 AM) Lastings Milledge was just sent down to AAA. While he struggled in the spring and early on, wouldn't it be worth a gamble to acquire this guy? The Nats seem down on him, but he has alot of upside. Maybe he could be the answer for CF and if not, maybe a Dye replacement in 2010. What would it take to get him? He could be the leadoff hitter we need with enough pop in his bat to keep a respectable OPS. He played better last year than what we have now, and he is still young with upside. I've heard he is a bit of a head case from discussions about him when he was still a Met. I think he may cost us more than we would be willing to pay. Sox would consider his attitude a negative and figure he would come cheaply since the Nats have a full outfield. The Nats would consider the Sox desperate for a leadoff type and still present Milledge as one of the top prospects in baseball. KW might laugh and drop the phone when they ask for Beckham.
  9. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 10:37 PM) Of those who feel Brian hasnt been given a fair chance, do you feel like he would be able to turn it around this year with a full year? Someone who was posting about this seemed to be hinting that Brian's developmental time has been ruined and now b/c the Sox ruined him, he will never be able to turn it around. I think he will hit well enough to justify his D. I am confident he will hit better than Wise or Owens. If he is given a couple of months with out Ozzie jacking with him, I think he could actually turn it around. He has shown signs of it before. He just seems like the kind of hitter that would need regular AB's. If I'm wrong and he stinks, then the Sox will know and he will be a 4th outfielder and KW will have to make a move before the deadline.
  10. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 09:56 PM) These boards could get really interesting if Beckham tears up the minors the whole first half. The debate will come down to arb clock savings vs. winning now and in addition to maybe winning now, Beckham would get to know AL pitching this year as opposed to on the job next yr. I don't think JR and KW will be worried about 6 years from now if they think Beckham will put the Sox over the top.
  11. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 08:33 PM) One interesting note: breaking the season up into 20 game chunks, there was a 40 game stretch starting with team game #41 in which Anderson started 45% of the games in CF. You wouldn't happen to know how many times he was "rested" after he had a multi-hit game would you? I seem to remember being furious when BA would seem to be figuring it out and get a couple of days off and ruin the momentum.
  12. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 07:10 PM) Shortstop is probably harder to fill. Not if Beckham is still hitting .440 next month.
  13. Anybody been around long enough to remember the boo's for Rick White?
  14. I think the organization seems pretty diverse with a Jewish owner, an African American GM, and a manager from Venezuela. Sox fans don't boo color of skin, they boo bad decisions, consistently poor performance, or lack of hustle. That's not to say you don't identify more with someone like you. I'm a white guy who was a catcher in little league. Fisk is my all time favorite and I have and AJ jersey. That doesn't mean I didn't love Frank and own his jersey as well. I'm a huge KW fan and love the way he is ahead of the curve. As far a Crede vs. Dye love, Crede came up through the Sox system. We follow these guys from the day they are drafted (see Beckham). Sadly, I have no doubt that racism exists. I just don't think it is why Sox fans would boo one player over another. I think Sox fans would root for blue skin players if they hustled and produced on the field.
  15. I agree with the Pods > Owens faction of Soxtalk. I actually think it will be less likely that BA will lose playing time to Pods due to Pods D in CF. Pods did play some CF while he was away from the Sox. Maybe he improved a bit and will do and adequate job for short times.
  16. Wise did not get booed for going 0-8. Ozzie got booed for batting him leadoff when his OBP made him an obviously poor choice and the majority of the fans believed that the team would be better of with BA's D in center. Props to Wise on that catch and I hope he fully recovers to win a World Series ring as the White Sox 4th outfielder. I respect Wise's effort and I think he can help on a 25 man.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 08:19 PM) We tried. No one else wanted him. Exactly. Would Brian Anderson pass through waivers? I don't think so.
  18. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 05:10 PM) So we're going have OWENS starting in CF over Anderson, right? If that's the case... f*** Ozzie. I'm dead serious. I reallly just don't think I can have any respect left for the man if he does that. If I were KW, I'd release Owens if Ozzie insists on him starting over BA. Put Brian in and give him 6 weeks of 4 AB games while Wise heals. If he sucks, he will be our forth outfielder and I will shut up. Let him play and don't "rest" him the day after he goes 3 for 4. Let him get on a roll and gain timing and confidence. If BA can improve enough to hit 260, 15 HR, and 15 SB, his glove will make him worthy to start.
  19. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 07:35 PM) I can't believe no one has been at all irritated by stoney. I like him as an announcer but sometimes his analysis of certain situations are so obvious, that I'd like it to go unsaid, instead of listening to his slow, boring tone. That being said, I enjoy the combo of hawk and stoney. I love that combo. That slow boring tone is no longer on the radio. DJ is faster paced with Ed and Stone can stand up to Hawk. Radio and TV have both improved.
  20. I'd rather see what Lillibridge can do in center before Owens.
  21. DJ Carassco dodges a bullet. There are a lot of arms down south that would love to take his place.
  22. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 02:03 PM) Anyone know who is warming up in the pen? Please don't say MacDougal. DJ
  23. Gavin doesn't have it today. That will be it for him today I'm sure. He has is 5 IP for the win.
