  1. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 01:56 PM) LOL at nobody wanting Dotel and him being the "definition of mediocrity." Clearly you don't pay much attention to relievers in baseball. Check out his peripherals, then check out what other teams have in their bullpens, and then get back to the thread. BTW his salary would would be pro-rated obviously. Moving Dotel would make it much easier to afford Halladay and Rolen. Dotel is still a strike out machine and I'm sure the Sox could move him and get something useful in return.
  2. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) I love you Steve but you do this alot and it drives me crazy. This
  3. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 01:43 PM) I submitted a few threads about Haren but got laughed out of the board in a couple of places. But with time every team or GM has a price. Arizona is going no where but things may change next wih Webb back. That is if his shoulder heals and he does not require surgery. Time will tell. I think your Haren suggestion was not supported by most because Haren is not really being shopped. Beckham might change that. Bacon might not even be enough unless AZ needs to save cash. I think Halladay will be moved. KW will be in on it. KW might not give up what they want and the Sox may not get him, but I'd bet my favorite AJ jersey that KW will make some sort of aggressive creative offer. KW is probably thinking about it right now.
  4. I don't want a frustrated, hobbled, warning track power, 75 percent TCQ in July. I'd rather have a healthy TCQ in September. Get well Carlos.
  5. I'd move Ramirez for Halladay but not Floyd. I'm not sure I would trade 4 years of Floyd for Halladay straight up. Beckham can move to Short. I'd try to get Rolen too but if not, Nix/Fields or another trade can cover 3rd. Ramirez is a good ball player but he has holes in his game and Halladay is an ace. Ramirez seems to have mental lapses, has an erratic style at short, seems to be prone to severe slumps, and does not appear to be a leadership guy. Ramirez, Poreda, plus any prospect including Flowers sounds good to me. The Sox could always move Halladay before next year's trading deadline or offer him arbitration and get picks. I would not trade Beckham in a Halladay deal. I would however trade Beckham for Haren. Even if Beckham consistantly hits .310 25 120, Haren is AL proven ace at a four year reasonable deal. It's harder to come by that quality of pitching.
  6. Why not do a buy one get one free sale for upper deck. Especially in April. It would allow budget tickets for fans who want to see a lot of games or just can't afford to take a family otherwise. Heck, it might even increase revenues if the bargain tickets increase concession sales and parking fees. Don't do the 1/2 price nights again. There doesn't seem to be a problem filling the $50 seats. Do something to help fill the upper deck. There has to be a way to make the upper deck somehow special to make up for not being able to access the concourse. I don't see the point of unsold tickets.
  7. I think Nix makes Getz expendable if the right deadline deal came along. I know Getz has a lot of love here, but Nix seems to be a better hitter and better D.
  8. I was at the game and took this video of the slam and put it on youtube. Paully was getting some love!!!! Sorry for shakiness. I'm not used to recording video and going nuts.
  9. If Pods is going to play center, Brian should hang around to play some D.
  10. I made it to my first game of the year last night. I had a blast! I'll try to go more often so we can get a stud at the trading deadline. Not as easy as it used to be with little kids.
  11. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) Does anyone else get the irritating feeling that Floyd would either be involved in this deal or (more likely) shipped elsewhere to save a little dough back? Actually i suppose to save $ in the current year maybe Contreras would be out for prospects? In a playoff series Jose would be a reliever, and has shown disdain for bullpen work in the past I was thinking Dotel. Perhaps the Pena move makes moving Dotel possible to save some cash to take on a different salary.
  12. I'd still trade whoever it takes for Haren. It would be nearly impossible to get a starter of that quality via free agency and fit him into the Sox budget. If the Sox trade Flowers or any of the guys slated to take, Dye, Konerko, Thome's place, you could get players via free agency to be productive. If the DBacks can be persuaded, then I'd be putting in a nice bid for him if I were KW. I'd even blow them away. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 5, 2009 -> 12:12 PM) No, that is not true. The reason the Sox farm system is so much better is because of the 2009 Birmingham Barons. If we trade the 2009 Birmingham Barons we end up with very, very little. We have some quality prospects behind them, but Phegley is no Flowers, Morel/Gilmore is no Viciedo, CJ Retherford/Tyler Kuhn is no Gordon Beckham, and so on. BTW I don't think you understand how much run support this team is going to lose when PK, AJ, Dye, and Thome all are gone. I don't think you understand how bad our pen will probably be when we can't afford to keep paying Bobby arb and Dotel is gone. We may have some salary space this year, but I don't know if you understand that to just replace Dye's production alone with another younger MLB player you're talking about spending probably $75M over 5 years at minimum just on Matt Holliday. We can't just spend money every time we need to close a gap, we really, really need the farm system to start helping us, especially in this economic climate. If we trade 5-6 players and 3 turn into above average or better MLB players at extremely low salaries then we've just forced ourselves to spend another $20M+ plus just to become good enough to make the guy we traded for actually an upgrade and not just a luxury on a mediocre-to-bad baseball team. I have no problem dealing prospects at all, but we do not in any way have the depth to absorb the type of loss a Haren trade would incur, and even if we did have the depth to absorb it in 2-3 years, now is not the team to make those deals because our veteran core is all gone after 2010, with a few guys probably leaving after this season. If we make that Haren deal, by the time we rebuild the top levels of the farm our young core is getting too expensive to keep intact, and now our window of contention is only 1-2 years tops. If we do it the right way, we should hopefully end up with at least a 4 year window.
  13. The Sox have 11 AA all stars FutureSox. (BTW, Great job with FutureSox.com, sincerely. Thanks JPN and everyone who makes that site top knotch.) I'm looking forward to a bright future. However, Haren is a stud and has performed in the AL. He and Halladay are the guys you move big talent to get. Short of Beckham, I don't care who they trade to get him. KW may just be bold enough to pull it off. Haren >> Peavy because of the AL experience alone. Haren or Halladay in place of Richard/Colon makes the Sox legit World Series contenders. The Sox have been better at drafting and finding young talent. They can restock the minors. Win NOW.
  14. I thought Nix was winning the job in the spring until his quad injury. I'm all for Nix starting for a while to see what he can do. Getz would still be very helpful to the team as the utility guy.
  15. QUOTE (qwerty @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 09:55 AM) Current sox players only have 42 at-bats (very small number) him with a .357 batting average against for a .1068 ops. His last year with any significant time in the league was 2006 (was out of the league entirely in 2008) in which he gave up 28 home runs in only 98.2 innings, good for a 2.6 home runs per 9 innings. Expect a couple home runs tomorrow for the sox. Don't tell Ozzie who those players with at-bats are. He may rest them.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 01:43 AM) FWIW, Arizona said they aren't dealing Haren unless they are absolutely blown away. It may be worth blowing them away.
  17. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 08:50 AM) I have been overly negative but he had a nice series and should be playing ahead of Anderson at this point....I can't believe I typed that. Yep. Anderson had the chance to make that job his. Wise deserves credit. Hope he keeps it up.
  18. Yep. Looks like I will be able to stream the game on my iphone. Wow. I'm not even a subscriber to the mlb tv packages. I have a feeling that att will not be able to keep up with the demand.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 01:26 PM) Bring a flask. f*** the Cubs. They don't deserve your hard earned cash. Personally, I would feel guilty giving them money. I even fast forward through the CSN news coverage of them on my TIVO. I wouldn't blame a Sox fan for buying a beer and having fun, but I would bring a flask.
  20. The fan war has already started at my job tonight.
  21. QUOTE (RoyHobbs @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 11:46 AM) Great article...I just don't understand what Ozzie's beef is with Beckham. I understand that he's young and has all of these expectations and only a handful of minor league at bats, but give the guy a break. Can anyone shed some light on the real reason Ozzie doesn't like Beckham? Anderson was also young, cocky or at least very confident, and given a job. Ozzie hasn't seemed to handle young position players well. Even TCQ got into the lineup due to injury. There is something there I don't completely understand. I don't know it is some sort of respect thing or macho thing. It could be a cultural or generational differences. Whatever it is, Ozzie will have to look in the mirror and ask himself why all of his young players seem to struggle. I think it will be something he will have to overcome to be a great manager.
  22. Counts just like a 450 foot HR. Pods walked. Stole second. Made it home on a wild pitch that would have nailed most if not all of the other Sox at the plate. I know you guys saw it. I just thought I'd put it in writing for the next Pods sucks thread. Just one run. Do you think getting an early lead helps a struggling club like the Sox? I do.
