  1. IF (big if) Jones and Rios return to top form, the defense of Pierre, Jones, and Rios would be outstanding and would move TCQ to DH quite often. Jones has a lot to prove and I am excited how aware he seems to be of that. Sounds like he not only wants to earn playing time, he wants to play everyday in the field. Love that attitude. As long as Ozzie makes him earn it, more power to him.
  2. Not for 8 million. No. Besides, if the Sox had put that much money into Damon, there would not be a spot for Konerko to DH when the Sox trade for Adrian Gonzalez. Felipe López is available too I think and he fired Boras. It's a DH guys. Hell Jermaine Dye would make a fine DH if that bridge hasn't been burned. If the Sox start the year with Nix a DH, it won't be the end of the world. We know the Sox have another 6 million to throw at the right bat, and they have prospects to trade. Screw Damon. He's a tiger. LET SPRING TRAINING BEGIN!!!!
  3. I'm at page 30 too. I've refreshed this thread 100's of times. We knew this would drag out with a Boras client and yet here we are. We need some spring training games to talk about.
  4. QUOTE (WCSox @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 11:44 AM) Ironically, 29and Poplar is JimH. I think that they're a split personality (29 is the nice one, JimH is the not-so-nice one). I didn't know that! I loved the wording he used to nicely say STFU and get back on topic. I hate it when fellow posters fight. It's like Mommy and Daddy fighting and I want to run away. Trolls are an exception. I like it when posters beat down a troll. It's been a while since there has been a good troll beat down. Mods are doing a good job getting them out of here quickly.
  5. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 11:30 AM) What's offensive? That, or the comment about his source being Santa Claus? Or both? Because (again) in both situations I wasn't attacking Rock personally, I was saying his source isn't worth anything. I think the offensive part would be the fact that you say his source does not exist. That would imply that he is either not being truthful about a source or that he hears sources that aren't really there (schizophrenia?) I appreciate both Kenny Hates Prospects and Rocks posts and I'm glad you both contribute. Rock has proven reliable and I think reading through past posts would convince anyone of that. If possible, I hope we can follow the wise words of 29th and Popular that I have quoted in my sig. Peace. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 03:19 PM) * Not my business, and very respectfully to other posters but I would say the insults are about even up. Can we talk baseball please.
  6. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 06:45 PM) Why wait until Sunday to talk Kenny? Is that his unofficial deadline to make a deal? Who has the most reliable sources? My guess is that is the day that the Sox withdraw their offer if Damon has not decided or Boras is still playing games.
  7. Should we pass a hat and make up the difference? This may drag out another week. BORAS. I hate myself for this, but despite me knowing better, I'm starting to get my hopes up a little. The thought of Pierre, Damon, Beckham, TCQ..... has me very excited. Yep, Beckham batting third driving in a lot of runs. BORAS BORAS BORAS. I feel like a dog that goes running after a toy over and over even though my master fakes the throw most of the time. I just can't help getting my hopes up. There is no doubt in my mind that Damon would improve the Sox. You know, I remember starting to get my hopes up for another BORAS player a long time ago. AROD.
  8. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 07:00 PM) I think Boras is using us. Could be wrong, just a hunch. I agree. Too public for the Sox. The Sox are making sure that if they don't get him, then Detroit will hopefully overpay. If the Sox let this get too public and get hopes up, then it may look bad for the Sox. BORAS.
  9. There is too much public smoke. It makes me think that the Sox want Detroit to think that Damon may be heading to the Sox. Hope I'm wrong, but BORAS.
  10. I hope not! I doubt it will reach me in Rockford. MLB audio on the internet is making it less important. It would suck for the car. I've listened to the Sox on the Score on a long drive to St. Louis from Rockford and was able to keep the station well past Springfield IL. It would be short sighted. Even if they get more cash from the station, they would lose the long reach that AM radio provides long distance fans. I still remember when I was a kid listening to WMAQ on a transistor radio under my pillow (no headphones yet) well past my bedtime to hear the Sox play on the west coast. The more people you can get the games to, the more game attending, jersey buying fans you can get. NO to FM.
  11. J.F.P. Oh Yea! When do pitchers and catchers report?
  12. I don't want a bench player to necessarily be the DH, but I do want a DH that can play the field and maybe leg out a double. If Q or PK get a sore pinky toe, I want the flexibility to shuffle things and maybe be able to move the DH to 1b or LF. If the mystery DH happens to be the hottest hitter on the team when the Sox play in the NL parks, then Ozzie can find a way to get him in the lineup. I don't want the Sox to have to make the choice to put a limping TCQ in left because they can't afford to lose the bat. Having a DH only is almost like having one less roster spot. Obviously if the DH can hit .280 with 40 HR, that may help make up for it a bit. I doubt the Sox are going to get a pure DH of Frank Thomas in his prime quality this offseason and fit him in the budget.
  13. I'm just surprised we couldn't trade him for something.
  14. Your screen name reference to the World Series MVP will always be valid in my mind. Clever too.
  15. There have been some ex-Cleveland players on the Sox who have played with Bradley who could tell KW what it was like to play with him. If he is a jerk to his team, then I don't want him. If he only has had trouble with the media, some temper issues, and problems with the cubs, then I would consider giving him a shot at the right price. All he would have to do is have a couple of comments on how he did not enjoy the cubs and play solid ball and he would be fine. He and Ozzie might actually understand each other in an odd way. I would do it based on what I know now. I wonder what Omar Vizquel and other ex teammates think of him.
  16. I'd be all for getting Putz for a reasonable deal and I hope the Sox give him a team option. With Herm and Coop keeping him going, he could be a nice pickup.
  17. QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 06:59 PM) i'm actually really hoping the sox are the "mystery AL team" that supposedly has a deal in place for milton bradley......obps the last 4 years.....370, .402, .438, .378....id lead him off and play him at DH....probably nobody else would, but id do it That would be interesting. Wouldn't it be something if Bradley found a home with the Sox and hit .325 getting along with the clubhouse. Now, I try not to let anything on the northside cloud my opinions of the Sox, but it would be sweet if Bradley tore the cover off of the ball for the Sox while the cubs paid his salary. I know he has a lot of baggage but so did Jurassic Carl.
  18. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Nov 18, 2009 -> 09:55 AM) FWIW, I've known Jason and Mario since Soxnet.net's infancy and I can say with some substance that theytake this endeavor very seriously, and would never post something they "imagined" in their basement. They are both too talented and honest to fabricate a rumor and the only thing that separates either of them and Joe Cowleotti is a press pass. It is a shame that Cowleotti decided to attack Soxnet without really investigating the author of the story or the entitiy he created. If Cowleotti had taken the time to read this board or anything else that Jason has created he would have discovered that this is no "in my parents basement" type of operation. I genuinely believe there is some great baseball discussion on this board and some great baseball analysis via Soxnet and Futuresox. Anyone who vehemently disagrees probably doesn't visit the site. Agreed! I trust a report from Jason MORE than some local writters.
  19. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 12:59 PM) And we could reunite Gary Matthews with his brother who I believe works for the Sox organization (and who i went to summer camp with..) Gary Matthews is a 10 million dollar Brian Anderson. Ouch.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 12:35 PM) He's always said he'd waive his no trade clause if the Sox felt they could make the team better by moving him. The Angels are on the west coast and he was very very close to going there after the world series year. They are also a perennial contender. Without a doubt, Paulie would accept a move there, imo. Also, I think I remember reading that he has a history with Scioscia from the Dodgers days when PK was a catcher.
  21. Nice surprise! I didn't expect anything going on today. This is very interesting. For those that had seen enough of the middle of the order, Konerko, Thome, and Dye may all be ex-Sox. Gonzalez could hit 50 with the Sox. I'll miss the old players, but this team needs a big shake up like this. Why wouldn't the Angels just get Gonzalez themselves?
  22. He wasn't playing well before he came to the Sox. I'm shocked that Greg Walker hasn't straitened out his swing by now. He has shown a bunch of talent and will be entering his prime. I hope he gets back on track next year.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 12:19 PM) I'll be watching because of Flowers and Peavy. That adds some excitement for me as well. The fact that Thome and Contreras were traded, may signal to the team that it is over. Oddly enough, that may actually make them play well and they could somehow claw back and make it close.
  24. I understand, but I'm sad to see him Jose go. His performance the 2nd half of 2005 was dominant. Thank you Mr. Contreras. I wish you success and happiness.
  25. That's why the Sox got him off waivers without trading anybody for him. It is a definite buy low situation. I hope Rios reads that stuff. Maybe it will be a bit of a wake up call and drive him to prove them wrong with a fist full of World Series rings. Clean slate from me. KW has been after him. He knows what he's doing.
