QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 06:07 AM) OBP is great, but its hard to walk in runs. True, but it makes it more likely that someone will be on base when someone does get a hit. It also can tire and frustrate an opponent's starter and allow the Sox to face more of the other teams bullpen. It also increases the number of pitches the team sees making it more likely to get a hit late in the game. I'm very happy with the team's focus on OBP. The average will improve and the power numbers will rise with the summer heat. This team could become an offensive force.

Even if he has not been horrible, Ozzie has been very reluctant to bring him in the game at important times. Until Dotel shapes up a bit, I think Ozzie will have the confidence to use Wass. I agree with the sentiment that he deserved to make the team to begin with.

No Bottled Water allowed in the UCF Dugouts?
103 mph screwball replied to Linnwood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
How about a big jug labeled gatorade that contains water. Then pour the water into paper cups that say gatorade on them. NEW from gatorade! Gatorade ZERO! Nothing but water. I will no longer buy gatorade. Don't be duped into bottled water either. It's no better than tap water but it takes a whole bunch of Saudi oil to make the bottles, put them in trucks, and ship them across the country. Idiocracy indeed. Buy a filter and put water into reusable washable bottles. -
I really think Crede will be resigned now. Of course, a lot will depend on how he does for the rest of the season. One of the questions that needs to be answered is whether or not his back will hold up. Another issue is his past before mentioned droughts. Were his slumps caused by pain in his back before? Will he be more consistent now? There are three big reasons that I think he can get a good deal from the Sox with the usual hometown discount. His defense is highly valued by Ozzie, the pitching staff, and even many of us fans. He truly seems to be the Rally Crede and has a knack for being late inning Joe. As the Hawkaroo would say "Don't tell me how many they hit, tell me when they hit them." It also seems that Crede gets along well and contributes to a good clubhouse atmosphere. I think all of these things and more will be strong incentive to bring him back now. Assuming Crede plays at a high level and Cabrera plays at his season average, I see the Sox signing Crede and Uribe and Cabrera moving on. Alexi the Cuban Missile will be at short and Richar at second. The great thing about this season compared to last season is that last year, we spent most of the year talking about what to change for 2008. I expect a lot of excitement and winning on the field this year.

Who is the MVP of the Tigers Series
103 mph screwball replied to Jimbo's Drinker's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Floyd! When your number five pitcher pitches a one hit performance against a big division rival's number one, it has to be a big boost to team confidence that carried over to Sunday's game and hopefully beyond. -
I'm interested in Broadway's performance. He might have an opportunity if Masset or Danks struggle. I'm not rooting for that, but I'm paying attention just in case.

Good idea. Keep Mark rested. The Sox will need him to pitch deep into the post season and we want him fresh next year to go for the repeat.

Vazquez (0-1) vs. Blackburn (0-1): HOME OPENER!

Linebrink had them right where he wanted them. He was setting Jenks up for the save opportunity. -

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 08:41 PM) How dare you. He is just an muslim freedom fighter up against the fascist Bush regime. The US deserved those attacks, as our chickens had come home to roost. They had to roost somewhere, correct? And a Chicken that cannot roost is really a sad situation. Seriously though, I'm sure the US is trying to get him. I guess him being elusive and middle east governments turning a blind eye to where he is would be the reason he is still running around. If Sen. Obama becomes President, Osma Bin Laudin will be dead within a month. Bush doesn't want to catch him. Then he won't have the boogie man to scare people into voting for McCain. President Obama will not only kill terrorists, he will slow down their recruitment.

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 12:20 AM) One can only hope. It depends on both Brian and Ozzie's attitude. He has the talent. I think he can do well and I would rather have him in center than Owens or Swisher based on this springs performance.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 21, 2008 -> 07:12 AM) Richardson endorses Obama. Wish he would have done that right before Texas though. Yes, but just in time for crucial race in Puerto Rico! Better late than never. It must have been difficult considering he was friends with the Clintons. Perhaps Richardson realizes that the same Clinton machine would be appealing to bigots if he had been winning. -
I agree with the theory that unless Uribe blew up at Ozzie or KW, there has to be a trade in the works. The Sox would be better off keeping him as a backup in case Cabrera gets hurt than risk letting him go for nothing and pay his salary anyway. He's hitting .300 this spring. It would make more sense to keep him in case another team's shortstop got hurt. KW may very well be going after Roberts. That would solve the lead off problem and allow Anderson to start in center.

Good. Defense is not to be underestimated and a healthy Joe may hit better than he ever has. Fields isn't going anywhere. There is no good offers for Joe. It would be a bad idea to just dump such a quality player.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 12, 2008 -> 08:40 PM) Here ya go: That was awesome! Outstanding journalism! That was well spoken, organized, passionately delivered dose of truth. I remember him from ESPN. Wow. I didn't think I'd ever see anything like that on the news. I agree 100%. It is bad to go negative against the front runner of your own party. It is worse that she could cost the Democrats a shot in November. But it is inexcusable and unforgivable for her to appeal to racism and drag our nation back decades. The Democratic leadership are spineless. She must have threatened to run as a 3rd party candidate or they would have put a stop to this travesty long ago. I will not live in this country with Clinton as Commander in Chief. I would rather vote for McCain. I completely understand how President Bush won his second term. He was running against a leaderless party of keystone cops. -

Stone will have Farmer's respect as a colleague. Stone was able to work with Harry when he was in decline. I'm sure Stone will be better able to have a professional partnership with Farmer. Farmer never gave Singleton a chance. Instead of helping the guy along, he seemed to go out of his way to make him look like an ass. I've lost a lot of respect for Farmer for that. I will also be getting gameday audio. I hope they have made the games down loadable so I can listen on the go instead of sitting by my computer.
-
This absolutely GREAT news. Chris Singleton gets a very nice job and can give our Sox some air time. Stone knows his stuff and should have better chemistry with Farmer. The radio broadcast will improve for us, and a very nice guy gets a national TV job. Sweet.

I Clinton smears her way back into the race, America will get what it deserves. McCain will be the next President. Independents like myself will either not vote or be once again forced to choose between which candidate is less bad. The politics I've witnessed from the Clinton's are almost disgusting enough to make me go back to watching all sports. Sen. Obama is a brilliant leader with something rarely found in politicians, common sense. I'm hoping my fellow Americans in OH, TX, RI, and VT will see through the smears. I became interested in this election as a supporter of Sen. Obama, but I would probably have gone for whichever Dem won. Now, I will campaign for McCain before I would say one positive thing about Clinton. Let me be perfectly clear. This has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that she is a woman. Margaret Thatcher proved that gender does not determine leadership. Hillary has disgusted me with her tactics. First she cries for sympathy votes, then lets Bill bring up race, then she calculatingly smiles and shakes Sen. Obama's hand on TV so she can look like the poor victim and scream shame one you the very next day in response to the truth. If her campaign was not behind the e-mail smear campaign, then it perpetuated fear with the photo that would make staunchest right winger proud. She whines about the media being against her while the media has been the opposite. CNN is owned by Time Warner who is Hillary's number 5 contributer. This is like the Tribune telling Chicago why we are supposed to love the flubs. She refuses to release her tax returns. What kind of kick backs has Bill been getting for his policy decisions? I think what really disappoints me is that there are Americans stupid enough to keep falling for this crap. Maybe that is why education does not seem to ever get fixed. This poor Ohio man crying on 60 minutes was saying that he thinks Obama seems like the best candidate but he doesn't like some of the rumors he's been hearing. It's sad. Sen Obama will eventually prevail, but I will not soon forget Hillary's contribution to the Republicans and her allegiance to the money machine lobbyists in Washington. I have seen some things following Sen Obama's grass roots campaign that make me proud to be an American. The opposition's sheep would tell me I'm not because I do not wear a lapel pin. -

He can do both. He can give enthusiastic speeches to inspire and motivate people. He also can give you detailed policy plans from the top of his head without notes. Detailed issue by issue plans are available from his website. I understand that there will be good Americans who have different opinions, but the notion that Obama is all fluff and catch phrases is ludicrous. He taught the Constitution and has written whole books of his ideas. I prefer his detailed plans. The evening news needs the 30 seconds of video to capture what might have been an entire day of campaigning. I would love to see him debate without time restrictions. Ask the candidates questions and let them give complete answers without dumbing it down. -

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 13, 2008 -> 08:54 AM) Obama now leads in pledged and total delegates (including MI and FL), states won, popular vote (including MI and FL), and national polls. According to the "experts" Clinton will need to win by 60% or more in her firewall states. I think that would be very tough seeing that he will likely win 10 states in a row leading up to March 4th. This is all good news but, the biggest enemy to Obama’s campaign would be complacency. If his supporters feel he has it locked up and stop waiting in line to vote for him, it could lead to a messy convention. Obama supporters need to keep donating, encouraging other supporters to donate, make calls, send out post cards, and point people to his website. “Yes We Can” is great slogan. Encourage people to go to his site and read his detailed plans. -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 12, 2008 -> 05:38 PM) Hell, why not, I can spare $5.01. That matters. Five dollar donations add up. Even more importantly however, is the number of people donating. I feel this is why Obama's website switched the goal from amount raised to the number of unique donors (currently >422,000). He will be able to go to super delegates and show the huge number of people dedicated enough to take their time to find Obama’s website and donate money. Matching donations are great as well. It encourages another person who might not feel a small donation would matter to give the perception that the donation counts double and there is an option for those people to be able to contact each other via email. -
