  1. The Sox are going to have to stick their neck out and go over budget. Then deal Ordonez, Konerko, or Koch. Otherwise, they might really miss out on some deals. If guys like Johnson, Redman, Baez, or other players that can solidify the pitching staff can be signed at reasonable prices, they have to do it. I'll keep wishing for Maddux until he is gone. I had hoped to get front line pitching for Ordonez like Perez, Garcia, or Washburn. Heck with it. Trade him to Baltimore for Roberts and prospects. Trade him to Seattle for Winn and prospects. Work out a different deal with LA, Boston, St. Louis, or Anaheim. Make it happen. Teams are more likely to make a deal if the Sox will accept less pitching. Sign the pitching. I'd rather have 4-5 good players that fill needs than one great Magglio who will not take 48 million for 4 years. Magglio is worth more than Roberts. But I'd rather have Roberts and a prospect plus the money to sign Maddux and Johnson or Redman. KW, I'll donate $100 bucks for Maddux or a legit proven leadoff hitter. Pass the hat.
  2. Read farther down about C. Lee. I thought his defence had improved. Just a couple of years ago, I remember laughing at him and hoping he'd be traded. Now, I can't think of anyone on the team who hustles harder. I'm glad we signed him.
  3. Seattle could give a combination of Garcia, Soiano, Guillen, Winn, or prospects. Angels could give a combo of Washburn, Ortiz, Percival, K-Rod, Erstad, or Kennedy. I like Garcia, Winn, Guillen or Washburn, Kennedy, K-Rod
  4. Why can't the Sox platoon him with Uribe? Jose would hit almost as manny HR and have a higher average. Uribe would at least add speed and D when he played. Jose, when he sat, would be good as a pinch hitter. Expensive for a platoon player? Sure, but cheaper than Nomar and I think the combined production wouldn't be that far off. I'd give serious thought to moving Nomar to the Angels for pitching. I'd go get Brian Roberts to play second and lead off and platoon Uribe/Valentin. Not as much star marketing power but winning is the biggest draw. 2b Roberts ss Valentin/Uribe lf Lee dh Thomas 1b Konerko 3b Crede Rf Rowand C Olivo Cf Harris Add Juan Gone for pop if there is any more money. Bring up Borchar and or Reed if Harris or Rowand stink. There are number of ways to improve this line up if Konerko was traded. This team would have to manufacture runs. Hey, that's what Ozzie wants to do.
  5. I'm glad KW is not the Cubs GM. He would trade Sosa for Soriano. Then trade Alou and prospects for A-Rod. KW has balls. But no money.
  6. I thought the Mets couldn't take on Koch's salary. This doesn't make sense to me unless the Sox end up paying half of Koch's salary. I'd love it if the Sox could unload Koch's whole salary and still get a top starting pitching prospect. Sox could have used Weathers, but with ex-Koch's money, they could solidify their offer to Rhodes and get another free agent. ?Williamson Marte Rhodes Wunch ?Wright and one of the kids. Diaz/Rauch/Ginter/Munoz Looks much better.
  7. I know they are planning to non-tender Adam Kennedy. Would it be a wise move to try to add him to the trade? How much will he make next year? Why would I want to trade for a player that will be non-tendered? So that there is no bidding war for him with the Red Sox or some other team. I can think of several trade ideas with Seattle or the Angels that I would like better than the Dodger trade. I'd hate to load up on national league pitchers from a pitcher's park and watch them get shelled. I'd rather have Garcia or Washburn than Perez.
  8. They traded Guillen for Viquel. I think Valentin has more value than Visquel at this point in his career. I doubt the Konerko thing will happen. I'd imagine Evans is pissed.
  9. What the hell business is it for Bud Seilig to tell teams how much time they have to make a deal. A Rod almost makes more than his whole team. If they ever talk about contracting teams, they'd better include the Brewers.
  10. I don't think KW gets enough credit for the things he does right.
  11. I brought up Kim for Koch a few weeks ago and was told to go play video games. Kim had a mental breakdown last year but he is very young. I think he could be the 5th starter or a good bullpen arm. Asian fans might have an increased interest when he starts. If you disagree, I welcome well thought out opinions. Please don't tell me to go play video games. I'm not a draft pick anymore. Although, I do like video games.
  12. I've heard that the Sox will try to get back Everett from the Expos if the Magglio deal goes through. The rumor comes from Otis on WSI. Now it may be complete crap but he did call the Nomar thing a couple of weeks ago. Is it against the rules or not? Can the Sox get Everett before June 15th or not? Any lawyers out there? I'd rather have Everett than Juan Gone because of competitive attitude.
  13. It was reported that KW talked to Juan Gone's agent at the winter meetings.
  14. If it is true that Nomar wants to go to California, it will take more money to keep him than the Sox could afford. Sox should talk to him about it. Then, I'd start a bidding war for him and be sure to load up on pitchers that will impact next year and payroll relief to sign free agent pitching that will help next year.
  15. It doesn't excite me but I think it will help the team win more games. It would be more exciting if Nomar went to Seattle for Winn, Soriano, and Garcia. Or Nomar to Angels for Washburn, K-rod, Kennedy? Don't forget it won't just be for Perez and Mota. There is a good chance we could ask LA to take Konerko if they want Garciapara. Then with that payroll savings get Raffy, Juan Gone, Ponson, or Maddux. It looks to me like Kenny Williams is kicking some ass. Who knows maybe KW has learned from all of those mistakes.
  16. How about Winn, Soriano, Garcia, and Guillen for Nomar package? This really opens up possibilites by narrowing the number of hitter available. They would give Guillen for Visquel and might dump Garcia anyway so who knows?
  17. I'm not sure that trading Nomar would be a good idea, but I sure as hell would get other teams involved besides LA. I'd rather have Jared Washburn or Garcia than Perez because of the national league thing. The Angels and Seattle can put up some good offers. How about getting Reyes and more for him. Matsui would play second. If KW can't get a deal that makes the White Sox obviously better, then keep Nomar. BTW, does anyone know what kind of club house guy Nomar is? Can he come in and be a leader? Is he intense? Is he a cocky jerk? Is he gonna pout that he isn't in Cali? Has anyone heard how he could change team chemistry? Otis from WSI called it. Even if it doesn't go down, he said it was being seriously discussed.
  18. Jose would play 2B or super utility guy before the Sox would give him away for nothing. At least that is what I'd be telling other teams if I were KW.
  19. I know it hasn't happened yet. I know probably won't happen. It is possible. How would Sox fans feel?
  20. Score is reporting that player to be named is likely to be Damian Miller. For what it's worth.
  21. What kind of GM would KW be if he tried to trade Magglio to Boston and tried to keep it quiet from the Yankees? True, but KW is good at keeping things quiet
  22. Get Dave Roberts in that deal with LA Damon, Konerko for Perez, Mota, Roberts
  23. "The Twins are interested in free agent closer Ugueth Urbina. Mike Williams, Jose Mesa and Antonio Alfonseca are other closer options Minnesota is considering if it doesn't work out with Urbina." How much is Urbina? Sox should offer him a deal like they offered Eddie Guardado. Even if he may not be a perfect fit for the Sox, I'd sure like to see the Twins stuck with Alfonseca. Any thoughts on Urbina? He and Ozzie might be buddies. Somehow the Sox had the money to offer it to Eddie.
  24. I'd like to get Mota too but I'd hate it to break the deal. The Seattle thing fits other rumors. Hell, include Valentin to Seattle and have our own poor-man's Pay-Rod blockbuster trade. I guess I'm getting impatient for something to happen and excited about the possibilities. Roberts or Harriston ( I feel obligated to mention them in every post)
  25. If Mota is the sticking point in the Dodger trade, why not work him out of the trade. What if Laduca were to be traded in a package goes to Seattle for Garcia and Winn Dodgers then move Winn, Perez, and 2 hot pitching prospects to the Sox for Ordonez. Mota is out of the picture. The Sox get Winn as a leadoff hitter CF, a starting pitcher, pitchers for the future or to trade and payroll savings. Get Roberts/Harrison as #2 hitter. Talk about speed at the top of the lineup.
