  1. f***ing pathetic by Clemson. It never ceases to amaze me how stupid coaches are. It really is mind blowing.
  2. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 10:31 PM) Notre Dame just pulled a Clemson @ Clemson. But still 2 minutes left for Clemson to return the favor Clemson's coaches deserve a loss with how awful and conservative their play calling has been in the 4th quarter.
  3. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 06:49 PM) Mike Ripley should be fired after 1 year, ha. He's terrible. I didn't have a huge issue with Nebraska firing Pelini but if you are going to fire a good but not great coach you better have someone a hell of a lot better in mind than Mike Riley.
  4. Hell yes!!! Great drive and thank you to Nebraska for the ridiculously stupid 3rd down play call.
  5. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 05:12 PM) Illinois fan complaining about the refs...shocker. Seriously though, yeah, miss counting the downs resulting n automatic Illinois turnover is legit the worst call I've seen. The thing is I think it was actually 4th and inches. Either that or Illinois had to go 11 yards for a first down and chains where in the wrong spot and Illinois really got the first down so either way the refs completely f***ed up. That crew shouldn't be allowed to work another game this year.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 05:13 PM) Is OSU really the #1 team? I have only seen them briefly in a few games, but they don't looks so great to me. I haven't been very impressed by anyone this year.
  7. The entire officiating crew in the Illinois game should be fired.
  8. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 01:54 PM) Has that ever been done with a top 5 pick though? Rivers sat behind Drew Brees for a couple of years.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 04:40 PM) Because thats not why Rodgers fell. Goff is a system QB, Rodgers played with arguably one of the best 1-2 RB punches in recent history. The knock on him was that he wasnt enough of the offense. The bigger knock on Rodgers was that every Tedford QB that had been drafted in the first round previously was a bust. Trent Dilfer, Akili Smith, David Carr, Joey Harrington, and Kyle Boller all sucked. He absolutely was viewed as a system guy.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2015 -> 12:15 PM) I know this is laced with sarcasm, but I wish there was a way to put a guy like Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady behind the Bears offensive line and see how good they really are. Aaron Rodgers has played behind some terrible offensive lines and he has always been amazing.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 01:45 PM) I'll play optimistic for now and think they have a chance too...but it takes Hoiberg winning coach of the year? Removing injuries from the equation because the Bulls have just as many potential issues on that front as the other contenders, what makes you think the Bulls could beat the Cavs, Spurs or Warriors in a series?
  12. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 10:31 AM) I mean, Abreu can't be that bad at 3B if the Sox brought it up to the media earlier in the year. It would make this team more versatile for sure. Have him start 100 games at 3B, 30 at DH, 20 at 1B. Have Saladino start 60 at 3B. Yes, he really can. Abreu is a bad defensive 1b. He would likely be by far and away the worst defensive 3b in baseball if you played him there.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 09:30 AM) Seems pretty weird, unless they were trying to prepare him for the inevitable drop in velocity he will face down the road. Whatever it is, it obviously has been a colossal failure. I would love to know the thought process behind it. This doesn't excuse Samardzija's terrible pitching this year but I found this really odd and Cooper probably deserve a good amount of blame for just how bad Samardzjia has been.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 09:13 AM) His k-rate is down, but about 1 per 9 innings, so not gigantic. His velocity is pretty much the same, so I think the k-rate being down is more of an indication of bad location and/or pitch selection than declining skill. For some reason, he still is a 2.3 WAR pitcher this season. He will get paid, but not as much as he turned down from the Cubs. He is also throwing way more cutters this year and way less 2 seam fastballs. I'm not really sure why the Sox decided to change his pitching style so much or why they haven't tried to have him go back to what was successful for him last year but I wonder if that has played a role in his struggles as well.
  15. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 04:49 AM) I've never seen him but I love Charlie Moore's game and Illini should still go after him hard. My understanding is that Moore still has an offer and they will continue to go hard after him.
  16. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) Agreed. And I think chances our we have a new ad come april. Hell have no reason to be kept around. Yep, crazy that we could be cleaning out the main 3 job positions in the athletic department twice in 5 years and that all 6 firings would be completely deserved (well I guess Guenther wasn't actually fired) and in the case of Beckman, Zook, Weber and Guenther I would argue that all of them being fired/leaving was well overdue. Really sad state of affairs for Illinois athletics.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 03:30 PM) I think they miss the tourney this year and then he's on the hotseat next year. If they don't land some crazy recruiting class and/or make a decent run at the tourney, he'll be gone....or should be. If Thomas is still around, no way he fires both of his major hires. That'd be his death sentence. If he doesn't make the tourney this year he should be fired. Three straight missed tournaments at Illinois is completely unacceptable. He gets a pass on the team 2 years ago because Weber left a garbage roster but there was enough to make the tourney last year and in year 4 you can no longer blame the prior coach.
  18. 2 years ago at this time I really thought Groce was the guy after he landed Black and shortly thereafter Snider after doing a solid job with the 2013 class (which hasn't totally panned out but its usually tough to land elite recruits in that first class) and having a good first season at Illinois. With a few exception pretty much everything since has been a disaster and its hard to see him lasting past this year.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 10:22 PM) Seen some rumors Coleman-Lands out for season Nothing official yet but yeah, doesn't sound good. It is always great to lose 3 out of your top 8 players before the season even begins. They've gone from a team that would have looked something like: PG: Abrams/JCL/Tate (well this is what I would have done but Groce likely would have still played Tate 10 minutes a game) SG: Nunn/JCL/Jordan SF: Hill/Williams PF: Black/Paul/Finke C: Thorne/Paul/Morgan to: PG: Lewis/Tate (both suck, don't care which plays) SG: Nunn/Jordan SF: Hill/Williams PF: Black/Finke C: Thorne/Morgan The former team isn't a great team but its a very solid team and a tourney team. The latter is going to need Hill, Nunn and Black to all be really damn good consistently to make it as they won't have any depth and the PG position will be a trainwreck.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 11:05 AM) Part of his ERA problem was having zero spring training. Using his higher than normal ERA as a defensive failure is incorrect IMO. He has had his games where he has been ripped very hard. When every single one of your starting pitchers has an ERA that is higher (and that in some cases is significantly higher than) their peripherals would indicate it is a pretty damn good sign that your defense is f***ing terrible.
  21. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 08:34 AM) Just a wild guess on my part but this sounds like the Yanks put in the claim to make sure Toronto could not have a shot at Robertson. Maybe but the Yankees were pretty active in trying to add a reliever add the non-waiver deadline and apparently made a decent offer for Kimbrel. They wanted to add another really good reliever to Betances and Miller to try to make games in the playoffs 6 innings since their rotation is nothing special.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 10:38 PM) So much wrong with this post Yep, while there are no guarantees you have a much better chance of getting an impact player picking in the top 5 than in the 10-15 range. And winning games like this wouldn't bother me much if we were breaking in a lot of young talent but that just isn't the case.
  23. It is too bad this team has been so good in extra innings. If it wasn't for the fluky extra inning record we would be in great shape for a really high draft choice.
  24. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 01:29 PM) Has to be conduct-related right? No way you fire a coach for performance issues 7 days before the first game. It almost definitely has to be related to the university's investigation into the football program. Crazy timing
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 14, 2015 -> 04:12 PM) Samardzija has been a complete bust. It's getting to the point that I don't think you can risk giving him a 15 million dollar option to re-establish his value. It would be insane not to make him the qualifying offer. Best case is he declines it and if he accepts it you are on the hook for only one more year. Would be remarkably stupid not to make him that offer.
