2015 MLB Draft Thread - Discussion - DAY ONE
Really poor location with the slider throughout this game by Jay. Was able to get away with those against Big 10 competition but that isn't going to work at higher levels.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 06:58 PM) Hopefully they don't have to play tomorrow night during the draft. Jay, Fulmer, Swanson, and Buehler will all go tomorrow night. 3:05 start time today. Jay on the mound for Illinois.

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 11:02 AM) At one point in the 3rd Dellavedova went to the bench and Curry immediately hit a three. It was all during a little montage with JVG and Jackson reviewing all of Dellavedova's good defensive plays. As soon as the 3 went in, the camera panned to Dellavedova who screamed something like "that's because i'm on the bench!" Crazy opinion alert: maybe the Warriors and the West generally were significantly overrated this year? If GS was such a great team, how is Lebron + scrubs keeping this close? Other than rebounding, the Cavs are pretty bad at everything else. Having the best player in the world helps and even without Love and Irving they still have 3 point shooting and while they were a bad defensive team to start the year the Cavs became a very good defensive team after acquiring Mozgov, Smith and Shumpert and they have been playing fantastic defense in the playoffs. The Cavs have done a great job dictating tempo in this series as well and games 1 and 2 were both grind it out affairs which the Warriors would prefer not to get into (although they are certainly capable of winning).

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 10:33 PM) I know what you're trying to say about LeBron being undermanned but let's not go overboard here. The GSW are far from a proven championship team with 5 HOFers like those 86 Celtics had...anyways, big win for the Cavs. Good to see LeBron being super aggressive and keep shooting the rock, FG% be damned. He's the best player in basketball, sometimes you gotta win ugly games like tonight. What's up with Curry, is he choking? Two overall bad Finals games so far. Curry was good in game 1. Shot 50% from the field and had 26 points. He was unbelievably terrible tonight though.

2015 MLB Draft
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 10:03 PM) I saw that as well. If the Sox are one of these teams, I'd want Clark out of all of them. I doubt it will be and I'm not a big fan of going below slot this year when they don't have a second or third round pick.

Cavs really getting the short end of the whistle here.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 10:16 PM) Duchene looked f***ing terrible vs Ohio too. He's not good or extremely nervous. His command has been really bad in the tournament and he has always been a guy who relies on control and has never had issues with that so he's likely either hurt or going through a dead arm period or he let the moment get the better of him. Either way the last couple of games will probably drop his draft stock. I had seen people thinking he could go as high as the 3rd round but I don't see it.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 08:47 PM) horrendous call goes against Illinois on the run down. Kendall initiated the contact to draw the interference and got away with it Wouldn't have mattered since Duchene was awful tonight but man are college umps just brutal. Illinois needs to start Jay tomorrow and hope he shuts down Vandy and then basically pray for a a miracle on Monday.

**6/6 Game Thread for Sox vs p**** Cats**
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 07:47 PM) Might want to pull him. 12 base runners in less than 5 innings. Thankfully there is only one year left on that contract after this season.

Carson Fulmer getting some ridiculous calls from the ump in that first inning. Illini should have had bases loaded. That 3-1 pitch to Goldstein wasn't anywhere close to being a strike.

**6/5 White Sox vs Tigers Game Thread**
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2015 -> 08:56 PM) Q completely fell apart tonight. Late to the party on this but don't be ridiculous. The Castellanos at bat was bad but giving up a bloop single on a good pitch that was hit incredibly softly and then a seeing eye single is not falling apart. There was nothing hit hard that inning. s*** happens.

2015 MLB Draft
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 10:50 AM) He'll sign, especially with the draft class being way better next season. Agreed. Signability just really isn't that big of a concern anymore for non-HS players. You will still have occasional guys like Appel not sign but it is going to be very rare and Fulmer isn't a guy who will be able to go #1 overall next year like Appel was able to do.

2015 MLB Draft
QUOTE (LDF @ Jun 4, 2015 -> 10:44 AM) while Fulmer has a nice sets of tools. but his past signing venture has to come into my mind. he was selected before, somewhere in the teens. he wanted more money than the team who selected was offering. now with the slot allotted money, will that be ok?? who is his advisor??? He wasn't drafted until the 15th round of high school when he didn't sign. There won't be issues signing him.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 2, 2015 -> 10:46 PM) Return to form? You haven't liked their last couple films? Cars 2 I didn't care for. Brave was fine but I thought it was a clear step down from nearly all their other movies. I really enjoyed Monsters University though (although I wouldn't put it up there with their best).

The reviews for Inside Out are absolutely incredible so far and a lot of people have said it was easily the best film at Cannes. Looks like a return to form for Pixar. I'm excited for that movie coming out in a couple of weeks.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 04:30 PM) Depends on what camp you are in. Many people would say GarPax valued him at the correct level but Thibs ran him into the ground thus diminishing his value. Meh. Gibson has been pretty consistent from year to year throughout his career including this season. Any diminished trade value is because there is no longer the illusion of upside with Gibson since he is approaching 30.

2015 MLB Draft
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 04:13 PM) And probably guaranteed he's long gone by 8 Yeah, I would have loved to see him fall to the Sox (because I think he is really good with the added bonus that it would be kind of cool for me to have an Illini to cheer for as well) but just doesn't seem possible at this point. There is some risk with picking him because while he has shown in a couple of outings he can maintain his stuff after several innings you don't know if he can do that regularly but it just isn't that easy to find lefties throwing in the mid 90s who have great command and really good secondary stuff.

2015 MLB Draft
QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Jun 1, 2015 -> 03:06 PM) Tyler Jay just came into the regional title game in the 6th. His brim is pretty flat. Someone else can have him. Who knows how he will respond when he is actually part of a rotation but he easily held velocity into his 4th inning of work today which was good to see.

So Illinois vs. Vanderbilt Friday. Illinois is good enough to win that series but it is going to be a really tough task.

Hartleb is just a terrible strategic manager. He has clearly done a great job with scouting and player development for Illinois but hitting his best hitter 7th and his use of Tyler Jay this year is just awful. I was hoping come tourney time he would use Jay appropriately and bring him as early as needed to but today is showing that isn't the case.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 20, 2015 -> 12:11 AM) It doesn't say head. But I guess their interpretation is any body part. I hope Toronto had some input there. I think 78.5(i) covers this. That rule provides that a goal is disallowed "When the puck has been directed, batted or thrown into the net by an attacking player other than with a stick." http://www.nhl.com/nhl/en/v3/ext/rules/201...15-rulebook.pdf

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 15, 2015 -> 02:46 PM) As someone who doesn't watch a lot of college ball, especially Iowa State basketball, I didn't know a whole lot about Hoiberg as a coach. But this is about the most positive article I've seen on him: http://www.denverstiffs.com/2015/3/6/81602...at-fred-hoiberg I like the fact he's a new-school analytics type of coach. He also seems like a really good player's coach. But I'm not sure how well that'll fly in the NBA. And while Iowa State doesn't have a ton of great blue-chip recruits, he did have NBA-level talent players on his teams during his tenure. Although it sounds like he took talented, but troubled prospects and straightened them out one way or another. My biggest concern is that his teams have been consistently bad at the defensive end. I have no idea how that plays out in the NBA though.

QUOTE (bmags @ May 15, 2015 -> 11:56 AM) I imagine taj's value took a major hit this year. Last year he looked great after Wiz series. Maybe but his play in the regular season this year was pretty consistent with last year. He had a really good series offensively against the Wizards last year but that was outside the norm and he was also unbelievably terrible on the glass in that series. I doubt teams came away from that series thinking a 29 year old who had always been a solid player was suddenly blossoming (especially when some of his success in that series was based upon him shooting an unsustainably high percentage on jumpers).

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 15, 2015 -> 11:55 AM) what sucks is Hinrichs future is in his own hands. He has a player option I may cry if he is back next year and the new coach gives him minutes. He has no business being part of an NBA rotation on a good team anymore unless you like guards who can't create off the dribble, don't shoot, and when they do shoot are inefficient. Oh but I guess he still has rep as a good defender which really isn't the case anymore.
