  1. QUOTE(Cknolls @ Sep 18, 2007 -> 09:36 AM) O.k Olbermann junior. FOX NOISE. They are the target because they are in front. Just like CNN was when they were in front. They're also a target for making their station slogan "Fair and Balanced" but are anything but -- as we all know, they have a huge slant to the political right wing of the nation. That's not even mentioning the oodles of times that they have been caught in lies, distorting reporting on issues, etc.
  2. QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 10:06 PM) Mr. Cena sells better than his son. The World's Longest Garvin Stomp was awesome.
  3. QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 09:10 PM) Question, when Jay was hanging from the hook, how was it done? I would imagine someone being hung upside down while bleeding for that entire promo could of passed out. They had the chain they hung the belts from and they tied him to that. He hung limp upside down and barely moved for that promo. Now excuse me as I mark for Orton beating up Mr. Cena.
  4. QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 06:54 PM) I'm sure this is kayfabe. It'll be on the dvd and i'm sure P161 will be explained on the PPV somehow. It just seems to be convenient kayfabe given the strong negative reaction that P161/AOTF got during the live event. I'm sure part of it is kayfabed for the storyline but they can't be missing it too much when AOTS sucked hard live. The visuals were cool but the Jimmy promo was pretty lackluster. Jimmy's a good wrestler, he just gets too wordy in the promos (for example: see his promo in Good Times, Great Memories. If he just stopped and didn't repeat himself so many damn times, it would have been really strong. But it was weaker because of the repetition that got taxing).
  5. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 08:37 AM) So, Faux News states that, supposedly, on unnamed sources with no direct quotes, that the Germans had opted out on sanctions for Iran by the UN. The article then jumped to the conclusion that they must be wimping out, and that the world had apparently decided not to care. Funny, because now that an actual news source has gotten the real story, it appears that Germany and other European nations backed out of the UN negotiations because they felt the UN was not strong enough. They are instead of the mind that stronger sanctions are needed, and France is even saying that a nuclear Iran is unacceptable, and that war might be imminent if that happened. It now appears that Germany and France are (*gasp*) going stronger on Iran than the U.S. is. In case anyone wondered why Faux News isn't taken seriously as a news source, there is yet another example. You mean that FOX Noise wasn't fair and balanced?! SHOCKED. SHOCKED I TELLS YA. No wonder that Fox News watchers are some of the worst informed people in the world.(source: Pew Research Center for the People and the Press)
  6. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 10:40 AM) Our policy is not the problem, when it comes to extremism. Even under Democratic Presidents we have been under attack by extremists. Heck under the biggest pacifist President we probably ever had, Iran invaded our embassy and took our citizens hostage. Under Clinton we had the first WTC attack, the USS Cole attack, the embassy bombings etc. It might change things with lots of Muslims around the world, but the extremists will always be (for lack of a better discription) extreme. There is no way of changing the minds of people whose sole purpose in life is our destruction. Um the Embassy takeover was some pissed Iranians who were upset at our support of the Shah and his secret police. So that was a little of 'reap what you sow'. And the rest of this isn't directed towards you SS, I just didn't want to double post in the thread back to back. And we haven't been just under attack by Muslim extremists in the US and the world. Perhaps Eric Rudolph is worth remembering as well, the Army of God, the ultra-rightist Christians who bomb and shoot doctors/medical clinics, the KKK (a Christian extremist organization), the Christian Identity movement...and a little from Wiki: Clayton Waagner claimed to be on a "mission from God" when he set out with his family on a trip across the United States, intent on killing multiple abortion providers. Ultimately he mailed envelopes, falsely claiming they contained anthrax, to more than 500 abortion facilities, as part of the larger, and unconnected, anthrax attacks of 2001. On 11 September 2006 David McMenemy, who has pleaded guilty to second degree arson allegedly attempted a suicide bombing, deliberately crashing his car into the Edgerton Women’s Health Center in Davenport, Iowa. According to a court affidavit, McMenemy swore under oath that he mistakenly thought the clinic performed abortions. The National Liberation Front of Tripura is a Fundamentalist Christian militant group in India, demanding a separate Christian state. Allegedly funded by the Baptist Church of Tripura, it is accused of ethnic cleansing and bombings that have killed hundreds, as well as forcing gunpoint conversions. They were declared a terrorist organization under the Prevention of Terrorism Act in 2002. Poso, Jakarta (2000) On July 26, 2007, 17 Christians were convicted of religion-inspired terrorism under Indonesian law. A Christian mob attacked, murdered, and beheaded two Muslim fishermen in September 2006, reportedly as retaliation for a previous court ordered and legally sanctioned execution in 2006 of three Christians convicted of leading a militant group which killed hundreds of Muslims in Poso in 2000. In addition to the seventeen Christian defendants found guilty of "acts of terrorism by the use of violence", two defendants received fourteen year sentences for their main roles in the killings, while ten were sentenced to twelve year terms. Five other defendants in separate hearings received eight year sentences for their part in the disposal of the bodies. So, perhaps it isn't just Muslims that are rioting and beheading in parts of the world over perceived injustices. Fundamentalists of all stripes are f***ing nutty and it helps to not make exemptions for fundies of a certain religion.
  7. LAWLS. The Chicago crowd s*** all over 161/Age of the Fall that it is being cut from the PPV. Per Gabe: After discussion among ROH officials today we have decided to pull the footage of Jimmy Jacobs, Tyler Black, Necro Butcher and Lacey (collectively known as The Age Of The Fall) attacking The Briscoes from the third pay-per-view. This does not represent the product ROH wants to promote on television or the conduct expected from ROH's athletes. When you purchase ROH PPV you can expect to see great, athletic wrestling and competitive matches of true skill. ROH "Driven" has several matches that exhibit those qualities. "Driven" will debut this Friday on TVN and the DISH Network. It will debut 9/28 on iN DEMAND. Thank you for your support. -- I guess it wasn't the loud "Boring" chants that are getting this cut off, eh Gabe?
  8. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 16, 2007 -> 09:19 PM) What the heck is an Arabic flag? And who cares what a bunch of morons in Iran are doing to insult their government's enemies? How is it any different than the insults that are flung the other direction? I'll take your bait. I'd imagine that if the headline was the other way around, I'd have the exact same reaction - what a bunch of losers. And now, for the sole purpose of threadjacking, let's discuss the historical merits of this:
  9. QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Sep 16, 2007 -> 04:42 PM) You're actually the first person that i've heard say that it was a dud. I do think they should of had the better matches after intermission rather than before. I would think that the crowd was pretty much drained after the ladder match/Age of the Fall deal. It was more annoying that heelish. There were fat kids wearing bandanas and ski masks in GA all night until this terrible shrieking came over the PA and they rushed the rails. The visual of them hanging one of the Briscoes from the chain and Jimmy showering in his blood was pretty cool but his promo was fairly lackluster and the Necro Butcher f***ing sucks ass. It was like the end of the Joe vs Punk match when Homicide came out and the crowd just s*** all over his interference. I and a lot of others around felt the same thing. It may look better on video but goddamn, it sucked ass live. It was Necro and a couple of emo gimmicks. That's supposed to be scary? The crowd was pretty much dead after that ladder match which was pretty damn cool. And a 2nd half of the YRR vs BJ the Jobber and Albright, Sugarfoot vs Mitch Franklin and Matt Sydal vs Delirious as a main event did not help matters to keep a crowd hot. The highlight of the second half was Kong and Haze vs Lacey and Sara Del Ray. It was easily the best match of the 2nd half of the show and the one that the crowd most popped for outside of the "Thank you Matt" chants for Sydal's last match.
  10. Just got back from the Chicago show. SPOILERS AHEAD, MATEYS! The first match was a 4 corner between Hero, Claudio, Nigel and Marufuji to kick off the PPV. Solid match. The ladder match was damn good. I don't think it was a MOTY candidate but it was definitely an excellent match by all involved. The Project 161 debuted. There were these weird kids in black hoodies with ski masks and bandanas over their faces. After the ladder match, this tape of a woman shrieking comes on and these kids jump the rails. Then all of a sudden -- Necro Butcher, Taylor Black and Jimmy Jacobs come out and lay out the Briscoe Bros. Jimmy cuts this promo and the crowd just s*** all over it. People were pissed that such a good ladder match had this ending. To close out the PPV, Jimmy's promo creating Project 161 was met with a loud chorus of "Boring. Boring!" It was one of the worst payoffs ever for a gimmick built that much -- introducing a new wrestler to ROH fans (he was in DIFH with Jimmy on WSX, introducing a wrestler most ROH fans don't like because he can't f***ing wrestle and then a guy who was already over in the first place with his gimmick that wasn't too stale. For an ROH show, it was a pretty big dud. I was a bit disappointed. And Whitmer, Pearce and Albright are a new stable -- The Hangmen Three.
  11. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 15, 2007 -> 11:39 AM) Yes. I have zero knowledge of ROH (I don't know who holds any titles, I don't even think I can name anyone in ROH) but if it's a PPV taping I'd guess at least one belt will change hands. They just put on great matches at PPV's with big plot twists in cities with rabid fan bases like Chicago that have been loyal. Last time here, they had Austin Aries surprise everybody announcing that he'd been released from TNA and was back in ROH. And it is -- Sara Del Ray - SHIMMER Champ Takeshi Morishima (the guy in my avy) - ROH World Champ Jay and Mark Briscoe - ROH Tag Champs Personally, I am happy to see Marufuji again live and that pretty much makes my evening outside of Dragon/Shima II. And Vegas fans, ROH to debut in October!
  12. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 07:05 PM) Awesome. I always liked Corino. Sorry to see he's hangin' 'em up. I'M NOT GOING IN THE SHOWER!
  13. From a shoot..Steve Corino meets Invader I (the guy who murdered Bruiser Brody)
  14. I car pool two days a week to work with a co-worker (other volunteering stuff makes it impossible the other 3 days). I buy most of my groceries at the local organic co-op. I try to use my windows as often as possible (but it is a safety issue to leave my windows open overnight since I live on the 1st floor of my building). I drive when necessary and walk to a lot of places unless I've got too much to carry there (i.e. boxes of books to a B2P meeting) I helped our school to work towards getting more energy efficient windows for our building which the district is in the process of doing.
  15. 3 of my classes went well with the debate. 2 classes got very interesting. We talked more about Gore's bias and the kids started to question a person's agenda in presentations. It was really awesome to watch. I was like "That's the point of this. Question. Don't just except something because a movie, book or teacher said it. Do your own research. Look into things and question intelligently. Get all the facts, weigh the positives and negatives and then make your decision." During one class, a student and I argued together that global warming did not exist and that human carbon emissions did not do much to harm the planet. It got funny when he and I were like "Well you know what else has carbon dioxide emissions? Do you hippies want us to stop breathing too?" It was a little rough around the edges because it was our first discussion -- and some kids couldn't handle it/had trouble learning the expectations for a discussion but overall it went well. I was telling them that I'd argue the opposition just because that's fun.
  16. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 11:47 AM) It just goes to show that it does matter which wrestling news sites you read. I still can't believe people read some of the one on here that they do. You pay for your smark bait. We got the point. Now move on. Jesus. Were you not held enough as a child or something? What is this cry for attention?
  17. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 08:30 PM) Don't forget to wear an Al Gore or John Edwards name tag when you talk about how it's ok for you to destroy the planet because you've earned the right to. We're actually using parts of An Inconvenient Truth in class. But I'm setting it up with an argument along the lines of "This movie does have a lot of scientific data in it. However, Al Gore does have an agenda which you can see in the way he treats his opponents' arguments, the way he discusses the current administration because he ran against them in 2000 and belongs to a different political party -- so that may make you want to believe some of his data and arguments less. How much you believe is up to you." I personally can't wait for next chapter's discussion -- "Should we really get Columbus Day off?"
  18. Tomorrow and Friday, we're having a global warming debate in class. We've been talking about Native American cultures and their treatment of the environment. Then we've talked about getting all the facts in a debate (we're going to have a lot) before making lists of all the positives and negatives of a situation before making any decision. So, we're framing the debate that global warming exists because most scientists have pretty much agreed that it exists as an entity. Then we're going from there to the rights of companies and people to purchase any product they want, make any product they'd like and act how they would like and that freedom versus the ability to take steps to curb global warming through better gas mileage cars, laws and all the way down to what a 7th grader could do. We'll probably see where there is a balance between the freedom of a company/person to purchase/produce any product and responsibility for the environment. I actually look forward to playing Devil's advocate to press to see how far their enjoyment of "I can do what I want!" will go. Plus, it connects something from thousands of years ago to an issue they know today.
  19. An oldie but a goodie. I mean, outside of a grown black man dunking over a white child, this video got me laughing and thinking. They could just reuse the beautiful 2 Cold WCW promo since the lyrics from the early 90's still fit ("Like a Gulf War / Brother, he attacks from the air!"). WCW sure had their fingers on the pulse of the 90's inner city. All obese black women are Aretha Franklin and all minority kids are street linguistic speaking -- even the white kids. And wouldn't stepping take them a long time to get to the school? Or would the Gulf War lyric be "Like a Gulf War brother / he attack from the air" in reference to Scorp being a black male? It could be WCW with a high minded historical commentary on the historical significance of minority military air groups in the US like that of the famous Tuskegee Airmen. /cues "The More You Know" rainbow
  20. Guys, let's be happy an E storyline has continuity. For months we've heard how Hornswaggle is a "little bastard" and the E writers actually brought the plot device to its full conclusion.
  21. Pacman Jones is now 1/2 of the TNA Tag Team Champions after Angle hit the Olympic Slam on Sting after Sting argued with and accidentally hit Karen Angle trying to convince her to leave ringside. K Quik and Pacman are now the TNA Tag Champs....and to think that Dutch and Jeff could not devalue a set of belts any further. Which leads to the question -- is this worse than the Arquette reign? I mean, at least Arquette was a class act up through that in real life + also gave his earnings to charity when he was wrestling.
  22. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 05:29 PM) Obviously a strategy to stop terrorism is going to go beyond obl, but if the Democrats are going to claim the war on terror is failing because the guy is not captured or dead I am going to call them out on not getting him when they were in the White House and had the chance to take him out. They vote for the war in Iraq, then decide to abandon it when things are not going well. When things turn around a little it's "in spite" of the troops and military leadership. When they have a chance to get Bin Laden, it's not worth insulting muslims...when the GOP doesn't get him it's "a failure". They stand for nothing, just constant contradictory rhetoric. I'm not going to get into an in depth discussion about the notion that the US just invaded Iraq to kill muslims and are waging a genocidal war. It's a ridiculous accusation and one that does not play out. I'm not sure if this is really what you think or maybe your emotions got the better of you and resulted in that portion of your post. If the US was really this fascist regime, as you are eluding to, these muslim countries would have been totally destroyed. The military is trying to avoid civilian casualties, I can guarantee you that if they wanted they could carpet bomb, or even nuke those countries and succeed in this "mass genocide". As far as the corporate media supporting the war, I don't see much or any support in the MSM. Yes, the MSM is owned by corporations and it's news rooms are run by Democrats. Democrats and "liberals" are often in places of power in these large corporations you despise. From Hillary Clinton at Walmart to John Edwards and his large investments. Many of these supposed "liberals" are as money and power hungry as even the greediest of the GOP. I simply said that the Iraq war was illegal and has resulted in a lot of bloodshed. Having a genocide would be a concerted, concentrated effort. It is giving the US too much credit and is also inaccurate to call it a genocide (and I don't believe I used the g word). Right now the US war policy couldn't find a clue with two hands and a detailed road map. And the corporate media cheerled the war effort throughout the buildup in 2003 -- when it was important to have the investigative arm of the media out there. Nary a dissident voice could be heard on the mainstream media during that critical time. And I agree about most Democrats. Watching John Edwards get his $400 haircuts -- that is 4 trips of groceries for me. Most of the Dems have whored for and cheerled the bloody war effort and have just as much blood on their hands as Bush/Rumsfeld/Cheney, et al. I don't have blinders on for all Democrats. I do however, side with those Dems who have been opposed to the war and continue to do their job to GTFO of Iraq. Our armed forces are not meant to be an ongoing occupation force in a foreign land to an undetermined amount of time for the goal of nationbuilding (which the Bush administration was against before it was for it) As I said before, my vote goes on a candidate by candidate basis depending on their platforms, stances, etc. The last election I ended up voting Libertarian, Green, Democrat and Republican on the same ballot for different races simply based on the candidates that were offered.
