  1. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 9, 2007 -> 12:34 AM) give me a break. your Dems are the ones saying " but, he didn't get bin Laden.... osama is the real target. " . you going to blame them for being shortsighted? of course you won't. comparing Suskind to Hannity and O'reilly sounds about right. i certainly wouldn't use any of their books as proof of anything, and that was my point... so what if some partisan wrote a book? it proves nothing. i didn't think the US should have invaded iraq.. but i wouldn't say anyone that does is, as you call it, "braindead". we get it, you're a democrat, but do you really need to stoop so low to make a point? You said the Dems were soft on terrorism by leaving the leadership of AQ alone and not wanting to kill/eliminate OBL. Then, I showed you how six months after 9/11 GWB stated publicly that he was not concerned about OBL. Then I quoted two major Republican candidates for the Presidency that have said that is not worth it to go after OBL. Why can you slime the Democrats and Clinton for not eliminating OBL and saying they are soft on terrorism when you're giving GWB, Thompson, Romney, et al. a free pass for the exact same behavior? Brain dead is one of the terms that I would have used for a cheerleader for the war. Despite the stories that information was unreliable, being stovepiped from questionable sources, Powell's UN speech being cribbed from a doctoral paper written in 1991 and that there were likely no WMD -- they threw that all out and went for the feel good orgy of violence in a nation thousands of miles away because they thought that it would make them 'secure' and it satisfied their bloodlust to go kill Muslims for what they did on 9/11. Remember, most of the people still believed that fallacious notion that Iraq and 9/11 were related which was an excellent selling point by the corporate media and the pro-war wings of both parties. Any person who did a little reading of investigative journalism could have seen that the claims of Iraq and 9/11 were absolute bunk. Yet, people shut off their brains and continued to believe the bulls***. So, yes, braindead would be an accurate descriptor of a war party supporter in this case, especially the 20+% that still continue to support this insane bloodbath and slaughter. And just because a partisan writes a book does not mean that what they wrote was suspect. Everybody has an agenda and the idea of objectivity is insane. The only objective thing in newspapers is the sports box scores and sometimes stock reports. And I'm not necessarily a Democrat. I shift from party to party in elections depending on the candidates running and their platform/how they stand on issues that are important to me -- sometimes Republican, sometimes Democrat and sometimes Green or Libertarian.
  2. http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/2004-08-05/...-afternoon/full n less than 30 minutes, Arpaio's special forces unleashed an unprecedented wave of violence on this quiet community. Consider this: • Just after the tear gas canisters were shot, a fire erupted and destroyed a $250,000 home plus all the contents inside. (The home's occupants believe the tear gas canisters caused the fire. Phoenix fire officials say the blaze was probably started by a lighted candle that was knocked onto a bed during the confusion.) • The armored personnel carrier careened down the street and smashed into a parked car after its brakes failed. • And in the ultimate display of cruelty, a SWAT team member drove a dog trying to flee the home back into the inferno, where it met an agonizing death. Deputies then reportedly laughed as the dog's owners came unglued as it perished in the blaze. "I was crying hysterically," Andrea Barker, one of the dog's owners, tells me. "I was so upset. They [deputies] were laughing at me." Making fun of the 10-month-old pit bull puppy's death wasn't enough. They left it in the ashes in the summer heat of AZ. And Sheriff Joe's response? The guy paid his $1,000 bail and is out back in the public. If this wasn't so tragic and fascist, I'd advise a sped up video of this raid with the soundtrack of Yakety Sax. Any of the Sheriff Joe apologies feel like defending this new event that further proves his insanity and despotism?
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2007 -> 05:54 PM) let me ask you this, when was the last genocide in a Christian country? One could argue that the Serbs were engaging in a genocide in Srebrenica during 1992-1995. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bosnian_Genocide or a book "The Problem From Hell" by Samantha Power for more info (a great resource about how the term genocide came to be, examples of genocides throughout history and what the response (or lack thereof often times) was from the US and other nations.
  4. But but but this is creeping socialism! Let these people pull themselves up by their bootstraps with their rugged conservative individualism! Horatio Alger didn't need no goshdarn big gub'mint to help him on his way. If they didn't have enough money for college, they must have just been f***ing lazy. How dare Bush tarnish the Reagan legacy by continuing to prop up the Department of Education instead of abolishing it? /ends rabid right wing authoritarian hate. Finally, an increase in Pell grant funding. Now just doing some work to get rid of the insanity of NCLB and things will be even better.
  5. QUOTE(Chet Lemon @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 06:38 PM) Which is why I will never vote for those limp-wristed pieces of garbage. Then put your money where your mouth is. If you like the invasion of another country so much, then go join the surge. But you likely won't, because whining and b****ing about "liberals" is a lot easier than putting your ass on the line in a marketplace in urban Iraq.
  6. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Sep 8, 2007 -> 05:21 PM) So some partisan hack wrote a book that is "proof" that Bin Laden really likes GW Bush. Give me a break. I could point out like 30 books stating the opposite. Dems are weak on terror, it's been proven by their actions. They could have killed Bin Laden but Clinton didn't want to offend any muslims, and if you don't offend them they will leave you alone -- oh wait, that has proven to be incorrect. Ok, I just read some of his New York Times and Esquire articles, the guy has a blatant agenda. Seriously, he's about as objective as Ann Coulter. Point away, chief. And weak on terrorism by leaving bin Laden alone? Would that be anything like saying: “Bin Laden is more symbolism than anything else,” he said. The country would be safer by only “a small percentage” and would see “a very insignificant increase in safety” if al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden was caught because another terrorist would rise to power. “It’s not worth moving heaven and earth spending billions of dollars just trying to catch one person." “I truly am not that concerned about him.” If so, then that's Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney and our current-terrorist-smoker-outer in Chief George W. Bush. How the Hell would you and the other rabid partisan right wingers have responded if Democrats, Greens, liberals or even conservatives critical of the Iraq war policy would have said even half of that stuff? I don't see how starting a war based on factless intelligence and continued actions which have only swelled anti-American sentiment abroad and swelled the numbers of people willing to accesorize with dynamite is a working strategy. And Suskind has no more of an agenda than the Krauthammers, Freepers, WNDers, Kristols, Humes, Fox News, O'Reillys, Hannitys and the other boundless, brainless cheerleaders of the pro-war "stay the course no matter how much suffering or countless billions get poured in" cheerleaders do. This whole near blind support for W and the Iraq policy is pretty damn insane, especially at this point when it is pretty damn clear that it was an absolute failure and continues to be.
  7. Girls, you're all pretty. Now everybody play nice or I gotta step in. Then, I'd be there to suspend people and chew bubble gum...and I'm all out of bubble gum. That said... Critics of the Iraq war have been saying that the war was a folly since before the invasion. I'd hate to say we told you so but we told you so. This whole current strategy of continued presence in Iraq reminds me of Homer in the tar pit. "I'll pull my legs out with my arms and pull my arms out with my face." We've thrown the beliefs of true democracy (when leaders either choose not to listen or overtly state that they will not listen to the voice of the population in the country), representative government and the Constitutional protections that we cherish and want to espouse to the rest of the world into the rubbish bin by our activities in a war based on fallacious reasoning and having a continued presence there putting more Americans and Iraqis into a meat grinder. Every time there is a renewed call to bring the soldiers home, we are told to wait. Then we get reports that are supposed to be written by a general but was actually going to be ghost written by the White House. The Iraqi armed forces are rife with sectarianism and cannot stand alone because they have no pressure to clean up their act since they know that the "white man's burden" is felt by American elites/greed for no-compete contracts to companies and mercenaries will be there to continue the march to what appears to be a damned endless war. The neoconservatives and the GOP elite went out and f***ed up a country beyond repair for their own goals of uninhibited capitalism for military arms providers and other companies or their own deluded sense of the international chess match in which the whole globe is their playground. They've f***ed up every last step of the damned process yet here we are as a country saying -- "Okay, have a few more months." What the Hell have these people in government done to earn the slightest bit of trust that they could or should be allowed to try a new strategy in this Iraq issue? It is maddening. And how about bin Laden's language being similar to the distaste that most Soxtalkers (and not just Dem posters) have for the US political process?
  8. So, a Buddhist priest walks up to a tofu/hot dog vendor and says "Make me one with everything." /will be here all night /don't forget to tip the admin and mod staff
  9. QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Sep 4, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) This coming from a teacher.... Hey, when it comes to things like getting to go to a PPV, certain things can become negotiable, hahahha.
  10. Skip class. Duh. And even as a growing Orton fan, I can't not post this since I've been laughing at it...
  11. I find myself happier watching shows like Joe vs Punk II instead of watching the E programming. I watched the undercard tonight and am saving Joe/Punk for tomorrow night when I don't have stuff I need to be doing. That Shelley/Jacobs "I Quit" match was pretty entertaining. Can't wait for my next paycheck. I am going to order the two ROH in Japan shows and Good Times Great Memories (or I may just get them when I am at the 9.15 show in Chicago Ridge for the 3rd PPV taping), an ROH CM Punk shirt and perhaps the NRC shirt. That NRC shirt is pretty freaking sweet. And speaking of the 9.15 show in the Ridge -- any Soxtalkers here going? I am banking on getting GA tickets or 6th/7th row during walkup. Announced matches so far: Matt Sydal vs Delirious Daizee Haze + Amazing Kong vs Sara Del Ray and Lacey The Briscoes vs Steenerico for the ROH Tag Titles in the first ever ROH Ladder Match
  12. QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Sep 2, 2007 -> 07:57 PM) It might stop being a story if he didn't keep yelling about being "set up." Goddamn b**** set me up! ...er, wrong politician. Stupid getting confused and both having to deal with crack.
  13. QUOTE(Shadows @ Sep 2, 2007 -> 09:52 PM) woo hoo Orton isn't suspended!!! Down, down, down Cena's going down /hoping Orton finds the kryptonite, silver bullets, garlic, crosses, stakes, fire, pitchforks, guns, dive knives and nuclear missiles needed to put Cena's shoulders to the mat for 3 seconds.
  14. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 2, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) As long as he is a candidate for president, honestly, that's not practical. After he loses to Mrs. Bill Clinton, THEN he needs to give up all that s***. Ding. It's an issue of practicality. For instance -- I can't bike to work every day (10+ miles one way and all 4 lane major roadways to get there) but I do car pool a few times a week. I walk most places that I am going to from my apartment unless I need my car (i.e. dropping off book donations at the Indy Media Center Books to Prisoner program or going to Danville helping out at the VA -- which'll start after I clear my TB test appt.) I do most of my grocery shopping at a local co-op. It is almost all organic and the vast majority of the products come from area farms so production and shipments are not using up fuel shipping things across the US/world. I only use my lights in the apt. when I need to when it gets dark. I recycle and reuse/repurpose as I can. Just because one does not live in a 1,000 sq. ft. house does not mean that what they say should be thrown out. Don't toss out the baby with the bathwater. With SUV's -- the high center of gravity/danger for accidents and flipping, the lack of fuel efficiency in an age of high fuel costs, the fact that SUV's are 3.5 times more likely to kill a pedestrian than a regular car if they hit a pedestrian and the lack of need for these cars by many consumers (think of the people who simply buy it as a status symbol rather than needing the space for products etc.) -- who the Hell would want to plunk down their hard earned dollars to buy one in the first place?
  15. WWE is also going to start fining workers $1,000 a pop for each positive test result that shows marijuana.
  16. QUOTE(Brian @ Sep 2, 2007 -> 04:26 PM) JTG must have not said "God Bless You" to Steph after she sneezed...Cryme Tyme has been released by WWE. sigh PWI is reporting that there may have been an incident with Cade and Murdoch. CT was charismatic as all hell but damn, could they not work. And Bob Holly may be done as a pro wrestler. His arm surgery didn't go as well as first thought and is causing him problems.
  17. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 2, 2007 -> 08:59 AM) That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds, snakes, and airplanes. Lenny Bruce is not afraid. Snakes on a Plane! It is a sign of the apocalypse and not just a fantastic cult film!
  18. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 2, 2007 -> 03:30 AM) I am a Christian, and more to the point a Roman Catholic. I watched the video, and went to the website. The website is just the rantings of an anti-catholic conspiracy theorist. The evil Roman Catholics and of course the Jews are going to run the earth under a New World Order. The only thing we are missing is the black helicopters and mancow. So lets get the quick rundown on the video guy and the site creator. He was in a rock band, did lots of drugs, most likely was depressed or suffered some sort of mental disorder and came to an epiphany about God. He harbors hatred for Catholics, which ironically was what he was. He believes in a vengeful and strong armed god. Maybe he can buy some land around Waco and hold off the ATF longer the next time around. Drugs are bad, Mckay I believe in a loving, caring and compassionate God. I don't need saving, especially by former rock and roll drug addicts who hate my religion. I learned something though reading the website, Here all this time I thought Osama bin Laden ordered the 9/11 attacks when according to Mr. Drug and Roll it was the Pope. The evil Catholic church strikes again. Wait till the Irish invade, you will all be sorry. You mean you haven't awakened yet? Not only do you get Jesuit/Jewish/Anti-Catholic conspiracy baiting but you can also get yourself Omega 3 Fish Oil pills! It's a one stop shop!
  19. SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER At this point you must want to read it... Keep going..... CM Punk won the ECW Title from Johnny Morrison at the ECW taping.
  20. His site is freaking hilarious. Wow... And did he provide any examples of the "Go ahead and sin and sin..." preachers? No. How does he know that the Holy Spirit is or is not speaking through a person? And "mainly an evangelical Christian nation"? Try a nation of Deists and secular humanists who wanted a clear separation of the churches and the state. How does he know if homosexuals are born that way or not? He agrees with Jack Chick? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA **coughs, catches breath** HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA As for all his assertions -- for the Bible I read, it has something in there about taking the log out of one's own eye before removing the speck from another person's. He may want to check all that out in all his scriptural posturing. A person's walk with the deity/religion of their choice is between them and the religion/deity that they choose. In Christianity, God knows a person's heart and intention much better than any person including this guy who seems to be knowing exactly what is in other peoples' hearts. And an international Vatican and Jesuit conspiracy? BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. This is almost as funny as Alex Jones' infowars.com website. Man, that was a healthy gut laugh. Thanks. Not bashing Christianity but just the inconsistencies, insanity and outright obnoxious hilarity of this guy's bloviating.
  21. They may try the route of keeping them on TV but not paying them for the 30-60 days that they are 'suspended'. They will probably drop belts as punishments or be forced to do the j-o-b a bit more often.
  22. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 01:14 PM) Your reply made me dizzy from banging my head against the wall. Islam, the Latter Day Saints, and various small Pentocostal faiths just to name a few. Just because Europe and the West are busy and gleefully flushing traditional religion down the toilet, doesn't mean that sits well with everyone. Why do you think so many Second and Third World countries and societies have abolute contempt for us.? The thought of their daughters videotaping themselves having sex a la Paris Hilton is nauseating to them. Everyone in the world doesn't want to be like us, and everyone in the world doesn't like our social and religious mores. I thought that was obvious, but I guess not. Every day it's shown to me in big and small ways how out of touch I am. Or maybe it's the other way around. The sad thing about the Paris video and to add to your comment about other nations' outrage. In that video, she stops and answers her cell phone. Not only is the act of sex cheapened with the video tape (secretly -- having it done for capitalistic purposes with two+ willing adults is okay in a civil society) but she goes even further by being a whore to technology as well thinking that a cell phone is more important than her relationship with her man. Was the call really that important? I mean, really. If you're 'getting down', turn off the f***ing cell, y'know?

    Lockdown

QUOTE(Jake @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 06:44 PM) That is the general feeling around school. As an update, the police are trying the main two involved as adults, and the other as a juvenile. 12 counts of weapons charges apiece, and one has a charge for cocaine possession. What the police are saying now is that the guns were brought to school to be sold by one to sell to the other, for money and possibly the cocaine that was found. The buyer was late to school however and the exchange was never made. Rumors are that it is gang-related, but that could be totally made up. The main talk around school now is why the TV cameras seemed to find the parents with the fewest teeth. Guns and people without teeth. There's more than that in Pontiac? /teaches in a town in the same conference
  24. Uh...we talk about stuff like that all the time about how to get anybody -- red, white, blue, black, brown or green -- to get motivated and get their stuff together in class. We have free reign to set up the seating chart in any way that we want. I'd be interested to see: -the level of special ed numbers at the school -the level of staff working with the special ed -the level of communication between inclusionary (reg ed) and special ed teachers so both know what is happening in the inclusion classroom every day since most special ed kids will be in there with co-taught classes -if it would be possible to try an alternative strategy during standardized testing. Instead of having them all test in their homerooms, etc., our school found increased test score numbers by having easily distracted students/some special ed students take their test in rooms with only two other students and a staff member. It lessened the amount of distractions and helped them to focus better on the examination. We ended up hitting our AYP benchmarks on testing scores in everything except for special ed subgroup which only missed by 1.2%. Not bad for a district that has 40%+ mobility and about 70% low income/free-reduced lunches. This has more to do about educational strategy than "OMG TEH BLACK VERSEZ TEH WHITE!"
