  2. http://rumbunter.com/2017/01/16/pittsburgh...ssed-mega-deal/ Did this make it into the Soxtalk rotation?
  3. Well that five year of control is a pretty huge selling point and perhaps his upside makes him more attractive to a team like the Yankees. Would they give up Torres for Rodon? Probably not, but if they call starting with that deal the Sox better listen. One thing about Rodon is we have only heard a brief snippet that could surmise one to think he may be available (Hahn was open to trading anyone with 5 years or less control) but, and maybe this is important maybe its not, I've not yet heard anything about Rodon or even Tim Anderson being off limits. When you have a garage sale you bring the stuff you dont want to sell inside...nothing I've seen indicates the Sox have done that.
  4. Indians, Rangers, Dodgers, Blue Jays...if someone comes along who is willing to gut their farm entirely they could probably get Quintana.
  5. Teams are afraid of pitchers, particularly young ones. Sox may have exploited a market inefficiency grabbing 3 of the top 5 farm arms in baseball + a 2016 1st rounder. Their targeting of those guys does not fit with conventional wisdom around the league, really the only team doing something similar is the Braves. Sox betting against the league...if it works they'll be nearly unstoppable.
  6. If someone offered a what would be considered a "good" Quintana deal that we've been discussing the past month for Rodon I'd take it in an instant. Who knows, maybe that's something that is on the table. I doubt it though.
  7. Rodon should undoubtedly be available for the right deal. I have serious doubts they would get the right offer for Rodon, but if they do they should take it.
  8. They could really use a platoon LF couldn't they...maybe Melkster.
  9. So if a guy says he would like to sign now for a bit less than he would be able to make on the open market because he likes where he currently is and that team inked him to that deal for the sole purpose of trading his ass thats OK? That's really how you want teams to behave? Not only would the guy be getting traded, but he'd be making less than he could've if he tested the market. You do understand if this kind of situation plays out the idea of the hometown discount will completely disappear?
  10. Fangraphs chat also gave us the Levinian Robles-for-Robertson swap. They are not gods of baseball, and they often are just making s*** up in those chats.
  11. Lying to a guy about your plans regarding him to get him to sign is not "business". In some respects it could be considered fraudulent but at the very least its dishonest and not commendable. I dont think that's what Moore is doing with Duffy though, having a decent starter locked for $12m per is probably a solid move.
  12. Duffy signed that deal because he wanted to stay with KC it would be incredibly s***ty of them to take advantage of that to get him on a team friendly deal in an effort to up his trade value. I mean at least the Sox gave it a try with Eaton, Sale and Quintana on their deals before trading them...to exploit a guys affection for your franchise like that would probably do more harm than good in the long run.
  13. If you get the ring who cares. Cubs fans dont give a s*** about the Heyward deal nor should they.
  14. I feel like the A's would be better waiting until Quintana is off the market to sell Gray. I mean once Q is gone there is literally nobody left available unless you want to sacrifice your entire farm for Archer. Makes sense that Houston would already be going after Gray if they are out on Q...try and get ahead of the Gray market before it explodes.
  15. Yea the AFC has always been kind of a joke. Particularly the AFC South which should be abolished and replaced.
  16. I read that as the Astros are out on Quintana, like what was reported a few weeks ago.
  17. Well which of the two do you think can put the team on their back and win a title? Bats definitely has flashed that ability but at 36 I dont know how much he has left in the tank. Heyward was flat out benched in the playoffs, but he's young enough to turn it around and even if he doesnt he'll never been totally useless becuase his defensive skill set provides some value. Depends where my team is. If I'm one hitter away from thinking I can win it all give me Bautista and I'll worry about the money later, after I've got my ring.
  18. So the team people want Q to go to the most is also one of the two teams nobody thinks will be his eventual destination.
  19. Yea I dont know when Bruce gets into specifics sometimes I wonder. Remember when he floated Robles for Robertson?
  20. One thing I have learned combing through the farm systems of other teams is that Collins is a legit top 100 tier prospect as a catcher and that is a pretty rare commodity around the league.
  21. I'd rather have Bats at 2y $40m though. Also, Bats is the better player and has been all of Heyward's career. The age difference muddles their future but still, I'll take Bautista.
  22. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 2m2 minutes ago Sources: #BlueJays and Bautista discussing two-year deal in $35M-$40M range.
  23. I agree that Acuna is a headliner/high-end 2nd piece as well. Even the Yankees wouldn't be able to beat an Albies-Acuna led package without including Torres. I dont think Maitan is on the Sox radar, or at least if he is the Braves value him highly enough that the Sox would rather acquire other players than have Maitan soak up so much of Quintana's value. This is where I feel like Frazier comes in. Atlanta adds like 6 or 7 WAR with Q and Frazier for 2017, that plus a full year of Swanson and the moves already made is enough to get into the division hunt with the perpetually underachieving Nats and constantly injured Mets. If there is an avenue to get both Albies and Acuna it is Todd Frazier, otherwise I dont think Quintana alone does enough for Atlanta's 2017 chances to warrant giving up two of the most exciting position player prospects in the game.
