Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
Con te Giolito replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yankees will probably leave Frazier in AAA most of the season. His callup to AAA last year was a bit aggressive. Frazier may play in 2017 but I doubt he's in their plans. It'll be Gardner, Ellsbury and Judge in the OF to start the season. Cashman wants to get rid of Gardner but I dont think he'll be able to, and if they have him on the roster they are going to start him. -
Well they blew up one dudes holy city, and his best friend decided to tag along. The defector obviously had a guilty conscious and was seeking moral redemption with the Rebellion. The spy was a True Believer, and had grown up as a part of the Rebellion losing (its implied) his family in the war. Saw Gerrera got his entire body wrecked by some sort of Imperial cruelty and became an absolute fanatic as a result K2SO is a droid who can be programmed to do stuff I dont know where the "no motivation" complaint is coming from. Is nuking someone's home not motivation enough for people??

That's a pretty great deal, buying low on Severino is vintage White Sox. Frazier and Mateo make a ton of sense for a team obviously trying to build up the middle. Compare it to the rumored Astros proposal Frazier = Tucker Mateo > Martes Severino > Musgrove Severino has immense talent, and his high ERA last year corresponded with an identical FIP as his hysteria inducing 2015 campaign. Perhaps in a vacuum Severino and Musgrove are equal (maybe even a slight edge to Musgrove), but to the White Sox there is a distinct appeal Severino has. And for those saying the Sox need more position players, well here is one of the best OF prospects in the game who will break camp in AAA and another MIF prospect (can never have too many) who has literally 80 speed. -

I made a pretty long post about why the Yankees interest in Quintana makes too much sense, I don't want to repeat myself. I doubt the first time Hahn and Cashman touched base on Q was yesterday, so the timing of that report from Morosi is interesting. -

Plenty of GM's go about doing their due diligence without it getting reported by the media. Cashman is more serious than many are letting on. -

The ~rebuilding Yankees may need Quintana more than even the win-now Astros. After 2017 both Sabathia and Pineda are free agents and Tanaka has an opt out that he will almost surely take if he has another good season. The best pitcher on their 25 man right now who they will have control over in 2018 is either Luis Severino or Ivan Nova. Now next years crop of pitching on the free agent market is crazy good. Arrieta, Darvish, Cueto, Tanaka, Duffy and Estrada will all be available plus a bunch of guys like Lance Lynn, (our own) Miguel Gonzalez, Jaime Garcia, Clay Buchholz etc. who could become a lot more desirable with a strong 2017. The Yankees are almost assuredly going to sign one of these guys, if not two or three. However a lot of very rich, very pitching hungry franchises are going to be going hunting for pitching as well and the Yankees still must concern themselves with saving money for the truly monster 2018-19 class. Its not a secret that they want Harper, and they have to balance having enough available payroll for Harper with having a good enough team to lure (a possibly ringless) Harper to New York. Quintana, king of the rotation workhorses on a team friendly deal for another 4 years, would go a long way to alleviating some of the Yankees' long term pitching concerns while barely denting the Yankees payroll. That said its pretty obvious the Yankees plan is to just attack as many postions as possible with prospects and fill in with monster free agents megadeals. As much as they'd like Quintana they would be stupid to sell more than one of their headliners to get him. If anything they'd want to deal from their system depth and for a team like the White Sox that has such a top heavy system that's not a bad match. Five-for-one deals are rare, but I could see it here. -

If the Sox plan on going about this rebuild being terrified of guys like Cleluis Rondon and Adam Dunn that didn't work out then they shouldn't even bother. Clint Frazier had near identical BB% and K% in A+ in 2015 as Gleyber Torres did in 2016 at the same level. And say what you will about their issues, but their proximity to the majors is a pretty nice selling point to me, especially when Torres has more value than Judge and Frazier combined (for reasons that I think have more to do with AFL hype than anythng). That is a horrible deal for the Yankees. You could maybe get it if Cashman were desperate but the Yankees are not desperate to compete in 2017. -
Yea I do agree, Disney has done a pretty poor job with the score. Even the bad Lucas prequels had great scores.

Con te Giolito replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not really. At least not the same level he has now, most teams (especially the Yankees) would rather spend money than prospects on free agents. Next year's free agent class includes the likes of Jake Arrieta, Johnny Cueto and Danny Duffy. You can rant and rave that Quintana is better than all those guys but those guys wont cost valuable prospects. Quintana derives a lot of his current value from being the only really attractive SP option available at the moment. If he doesn't command a trade package you like this year he will almost certainly not next year either. I'm OK keeping Quintana around, but that puts a little more pressure on the rebuild to be nearing completion by opening day 2019. -

Yea but they would also be getting Clint Frazier, one of the better outfield prospects in baseball. -

A lot of you guys are blood drunk on the Eaton trade, and if Quintana is traded you're setting yourselves up to be really disappointed. Like if the Sox get a Clint Frazier, Aaron Judge and Wilkerman Garcia package for Q will you seriously be upset? Because judging by the demands of two of the top three prospects from the best farm system in baseball you're gonna be devastated by whatever return they get for him. The Red Sox didn't even have to give up two of their top three and they do not have the same caliber system the Yankees have (nor are they as invested in the contributions of their minor leaguers as the Yankees currently are). -

It's better than the Sale return. Torres < Moncada Rutherford > Kopech (this is close, but the upside on Rutherford right now is almost unlimited) Adams >>> Basabe and Diaz -

You know its pretty difficult to asses where these guys are going to land until the lists actually come out, but right now judging by the remarks of a lot of people in the business of following prospects and their stocks there is a ton of helium on Torres and Kapreilian from their success in the AFL. Rutherford had an OPS over 1.000 as a 19 year old in rookie ball, so his trajectory has his stock pretty high too. -

And Quintana is a very good pitcher, he is not on the level of Sale. -

Yankees will never do that deal. You're asking for a ~top 10 guy, two top 50 guys and a fringe top 100 guys. Again, the Yankees aren't going to give up more for Quintana than the Red Sox did for Sale. I'm not saying Torres is off limits, but Torres + 3 others including another top 50 guy is not happening. Torres isn't quite Moncada, but he's damn close. So if the Sox are getting him back they are probably only getting a 3 player deal rounded out by a couple low end guys. I'm not opposed to that deal, by the way. The Yankees "low end" guys are pretty damn good. They have better players in their top 50 than the Sox have in their top 30 (perhaps an exaggeration, but the Yankees are truly loaded). Alternatively the Sox could accept a lesser headliner and perhaps get Kapreilian, Mateo or Adams as a second piece. Both scenarios are superior to the rumored Astros package (and I love Kyle Tucker), and I think more than an adequate return for Quintana. -

If the Yankees see themselves as fringe contenders in 2017 but serious contenders 2018 and onward Quintana makes a ton of sense. Durable LH innings eater is one of the locomotives teams rely on to win a division. And in the AL East its not just about finding a Bumgarner for the playoffs. Avoiding the wild card playoff is a big deal. -

JOHN DANKS! Yea I really am not a fan of how Houston does business. Sox have to do what's best for the Sox but to see Jose Quintana playing an instrumental role on a Luhnow team winning a World Series would suck. -

Quintana has stellar a ERA against the Red Sox, Astros, Indians and the Blue Jays but, like so many Sox pitchers of late, cant seem to figure out the Twins. Quintana is many things, but a bum slayer he is not. -

Is Morosi one of the usual suspects for these types of things from the Sox? I feel like Nightengale is their go-to guy for those kinds of tactics. -

If they get Robles for Robertson something is wrong with Robles.
