  1. The White Sox will never have the back-to-back season of massive spending like the Cubs had. 2 of the Cubs top 8 players by WAR are not homegrown, the next two after that are Hendry picks. Following their model and fetishizing losing for a half decade will bring ruin to the Sox.
  2. Agreed. Loads of high draft picks have done little to help the White Sox system the last few years.
  3. A year ago they were trying to extend him and now they want to trade him. They're panicking over one bad year.
  4. This likely means offers on the table from the Yankees and Pirates (or whoever else) exceeded what the Astros are willing to part with. So in a way, good news! Though I don't believe the Astros are truly out of it until Q is traded elsewhere.
  5. The White Sox and Yankees have definitely talked regarding Quintana.
  6. Yankees are obviously clearing money to go hog wild next two offseasons so they have their own motivations.
  7. Gardner and Headley are not negative value pieces and may actually give the Sox a couple guys to flip at the deadline. And really I'm not on board with the idea of breaking loss records, having a watchable MLB team would be nice.
  8. The Sox should not be hesitant to get back Chase Headley from the Yankees to make the money work.
  9. To me the best-case, better than even Bregman, is still Meadows and Bell. I'll gladly accept other packages but man, that's the prize.
  10. Well good to see things picking up right where they left off.
  11. It's almost impossible to predict guys past the headliners unless you have some inside knowledge of the Sox scouting department.
  12. Pretty much agree. Sox shouldn't let David Robertson get between them and the players they really want especially when were dealing with guys of Torres' caliber.
  13. They are saving their pennies for spending sprees the next two years and I understand it in principle, but nickel and diming the Sox on Jose Quintana is baffling from the Pirates much less the Yankees. Robertson will be a FA the year Harper hits the market so its not like the commitment there even means all that much.
  14. Then there have been media people, one moronic and one maybe-not-as-moronic, who've said Robles for Robertson is plausible. I can kind of surmise what Quintana, Frazier and Jones would return but I have no idea what Robertson is worth anymore.
  15. Not happening. Torres/Frazier + Rutherford/Mateo seems possible though.
  16. Probably more like two of those three but very impressive depth on the deal. As many as 6 prospects coming back.
  17. The Yankees were playoff contenders last year they just couldn't say no to what the Indians and Cubs were offering them.
  18. Now the Yankees want the Sox to eat money in a Quitnana trade??? Yankees want to flip Robertson like they flipped Miller and Chapman, must think they have some recipe to keep him from blowing 6 run leads in the 9th inning. I honestly do not doubt them. In any case if they want Robertson + Quintana AND want the Sox to eat money (this demand coming from the Yankees still beggars belief) they must be willing to part with Torres + Rutherford and more. So that's good news for talks with other teams. It also means its time for the Nationals to nut up and make their move for Robertson.
  19. Detroit cant even tackle without getting flagged.
  20. Its less about Quintana than it is about the SP market next year. The big money teams, and even a few mid-market teams, that are in the hunt for pitching next year will have tons of options to chose from in FA. Read about it here: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-strong-...ass-of-2017-18/ There just wont be the demand for Q next year. Even if he keeps it up, even if he improves, the Sox wont be able to get back what they can now because MLB teams are just more willing to spend money than prospects on players.
  21. I was at that Iguchi game. He hit a 3 run shot and a slammy IIRC.
  22. iirc Scherzer didn't sign until late January, so I wouldn't sleep on the bidding war heating up dramatically in the next couple weeks. The holiday weekend threw some water of talks that at one point seemed near inevitable, lets see what tomorrow brings.
  23. Its worth taking a bit less of a price than TOTAL FLEECING and just dealing Quintana now to avoid being burned by the ever-present threats (even in the case of Mr Consistent himself) of ineffectiveness or injury. Could you imagine if Q busts his shoulder in May for a terrible Sox team and getting basically nothing in return for him? This isn't an argument to give him away, but it is an argument to be a little more flexible on the asking price.
