April 13, 20178 yr Probably not a great sign that I dread Guolito starts rather than looking forward to them. The gun readings are just too depressing, at least he's been pitching same day as Dunning to soften the blow.

Speaking of neither of them, are people no longer excited about Spencer Adams. he's only 21 (today, happy birthday spencer, have a beer!) and at AA. His walk rate is still great. Is it just the low K rate that has everyone cooling on him?

AA was a challenge for him last year but he held his own. Also waiting to see if his K rate comes up.

Also waiting to see if his K rate comes up. I don't think Adams will ever be a strikeout pitcher which is fine but he needs to be an effective groundball pitcher
April 13, 20178 yr i know there is no reason to rush guys, but fisher should probably be in high A before too long
April 13, 20178 yr Author QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 05:41 PM) I don't think Adams will ever be a strikeout pitcher which is fine but he needs to be an effective groundball pitcher Agree, Adams won't be a strike out pitcher but his K rate is still low even for a non-strikeout pitcher. If Adams could learn how to throw a good Splitter/Sinker with his control, he could be a ground ball machine. He has enough height to get a good downward angle. Not concerned about Adams though. Kid is still young. I think he's been kind of lost in the mix with Giolito, Lopez and Dunning being added to the farm recently.
April 13, 20178 yr Adams had a 11.4% K% in AA last year. That would be unplayable in the majors. It goes without saying he'll need to start missing more bats to become a major leaguer.

Seeing as how they are college draftees I wouldn't think bumping them to Winston-Salem would be too aggressive.
April 13, 20178 yr This fastball is going to get him killed in the majors. Looks like the same pitcher so far as he was last year in terms of fastball issues
April 13, 20178 yr Kyle Glaser @KyleAGlaser 14m14 minutes ago Lucas Giolito FB 92-94, SL 83-87, CH 83 in first. CH was nasty, FB command not great. Gave up RBI 2B to Casey Gillespie off FB #WhiteSox Kyle Glaser @KyleAGlaser Giolito's fastball velo is fine, but it's getting hit hard because command below-average. Two outs just crushed last inning https://twitter.com/KyleAGlaser
April 14, 20178 yr Author So far Dunning is looking good through three. Cruz and Collins each with doubles. Birmingham getting ready to start.

April 14, 20178 yr Collins has thrown out 2 so far. That's 6 of 8 on the season. Obviously a lot more to catching defense than throwing guys out but this is clearly a good sign
April 14, 20178 yr Author QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 07:01 PM) Basabe back also Would be awesome if he could heat up. That's kid has gobs of potential with the bat, glove and legs.
