They have giolito, kopech and lopez but each of them has a risk because of the command. If one of them has to move to the pen who will become the rest of the rotation? They can certainly sign a free agent when it is time but I still think they need at least one more high level prospect because a lot of the other pitching prespects are relievers.

I think there is plenty of talent, perhaps as much as any other organization. That being said, you always need more starting pitching talent. (1) There is no guarantee any of the prospects pan out; (2) if they do pan out, they may not pan out in the way you hope; (3) injury risks are huge, as even your best pitchers can get injury in an instant (see Rodon); (4) if they do pan out, you may not be able to afford them beyond their first six years.

 

So while the Sox have a rich system in terms of pitching prospects, especially running the gamut from top-of-the-rotation talent to middle-of-the-rotation-talent to back-of-the-rotation talent, you really can never have enough.

Holmberg has actually held his own pretty well....despite the defense. Realize one of the errors was his own doing last night.

At the end of the day, if we want a high quality rotation we'll need to develop two TOR guys to pair with Rodon. I have full confidence Kopech will be one of those guys in due time. His results have been ridiculous once you account for his age and how little development time he really has. I think he's the guy who ultimately sits atop our rotation. If that happens, you only need of Giolito, Lopez, & Hansen working out as #2 type starter. We should have plenty of guys to fill the #4 & #5 spots. Outside of the names already mentioned, Adams & Geurrero have really taken steps forward this year and should arrive sometime in 2018. Dunning shouldn't be far behind them the way he's going and Stephens could be right there too if he can manage to stay healthy.

 

While there is plenty of talent already in the system, we'll no doubt continue to add more at the trade deadline. Despite a greater organizational need, we won't be adding just positional prospects at the deadline.

Keep an eye on Bernardo Flores. As excited as everyone is about Alec Hanson, Flores is having nearly as

I like what Flores has done so far, especially keeping the walks down. I'm curious to see how he performs against significantly better high A ball competition though?

You only need look at Mets to see how quickly loads of arms falls apart. I think starting end of this year to next we'll feel the lack of HS arms as Kanny/WS may hit a weird spot with pitching. Feels like we have a lot because there are the pitchers condensed at the top.

 

Really not that concerned with how our AAA pitchers are faring. THis is the hardest part of development, when they need to reign in control and learn how to keep swings and misses. Some are going to fail but not giving up on any of them. THat said, somebody is going to be terrible and we'll wonder how we ever thought they were good. Need to get a surprise or two out of the lower level prospects.

You can never have too many SP prospects, but the sox need to diversify. Bats need to be the focus for the foreseeable future.
