September 5, 20178 yr I'll give Holland credit for taking the ball and not making excuses. Wish him well.
September 5, 20178 yr Author He served his purpose: ate innings until our prospects were ready to take over. Would have been better if he pitched well and was traded for something but oh well.
September 5, 20178 yr Baseball-wise, it made no sense to keep throwing him out there except to help the team lose, and I don't think they consciously want to do that, even though at this point, it probably is the better option. Although Covey is the same thing, with Beck. Fry probaby will be a gas can. Holberg will start, go 3 or 4 innings .... Give Holland a extra month off, and maybe someone gives him a chance next year.
September 5, 20178 yr Finally over. The tank season couldn't have happened without his contributions but maaaaaaaan was it hard to watch
September 5, 20178 yr QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 01:05 PM) Finally over. The tank season couldn't have happened without his contributions but maaaaaaaan was it hard to watch The incredible thing was he was really good for a little while, then was about as bad as can be for about as long as you will ever see on a major league team before he got the boot. Even tanking teams pull the plug a little faster. Edited September 5, 20178 yr by Dick Allen
September 5, 20178 yr Holland was a good clubhouse presence and didn't blame anyone but himself. He wasn't going to be here next year so his release makes baseball sense. I have concerns about Beck and Pelfrey also Edited September 5, 20178 yr by elrockinMT
September 5, 20178 yr Gotta feel for Holland a bit. An A+ dude that took his struggles in stride. I followed him on snapchat all season and it was super cool to get an inside look inside the sox clubhouse, team plane, pregame activities, etc. Wish him the best.

September 5, 20178 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 01:14 PM) Merkin thinks that's it for additional call ups A little surprised no Goldberg. Other than that, not too surprising. I thought it was possible Danish would get a look out of the pen, but with his car accident, less surprising (even if injuries are indeed minor).
September 5, 20178 yr If you want to know what the Sox are getting in Jace Fry, here's an in-person report with video from a couple months ago in BHAM. He's changed a bit since his pre-2nd-TJS days.
September 5, 20178 yr I still think Pelfrey is an alright bullpen piece since we dont' have anyone interesting he's blocking.
September 5, 20178 yr QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 01:26 PM) Doesn't seem like the org is even concerned with 2018 draft position much. Because they released Holland? The Sox bullpen is still horrific. They're going to lose plenty of games. Top 4 pick is a lock, but Tigers coming on fast. Still think they'll finish with #3 pick.
September 5, 20178 yr QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 01:26 PM) Doesn't seem like the org is even concerned with 2018 draft position much. As keeper of the reverse standings, don't be worried. The Sox won't fall below 3.
September 5, 20178 yr Author QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 01:29 PM) As keeper of the reverse standings, don't be worried. The Sox won't fall below 3. Keeper? There's a link you can click on on the very first post in that topic that shows the reverse standings haha Edited September 5, 20178 yr by soxfan2014
September 5, 20178 yr QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 01:22 PM) Was that the worst pitching season by a White Sox starter ever? Plus he was an absolute asshole on top of being f***ing awful. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/navarja01.shtml
September 5, 20178 yr QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 01:34 PM) Plus he was an absolute asshole on top of being f***ing awful. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/n/navarja01.shtml Kinda surprised Holland's was "only" 6.2 ERA
September 5, 20178 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 01:41 PM) Holland's ERA on June 1 was 2.37. 9.32 after. Yes. It probably was the worst 3 month stretch a starting pitcher ever had without being yanked from the rotation for the White Sox. Jaime Navarro might have been worse overall. I do recall a game when he gave up 8 or 9 runs that he actually complained about run support. But I doubt he had a stretch that bad that long. Edited September 5, 20178 yr by Dick Allen
September 5, 20178 yr QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 01:41 PM) Holland's ERA on June 1 was 2.37. 9.32 after. Do we know how that happened? Was he extremely lucky to start the year or was there an injury or velocity drop?
September 5, 20178 yr QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 01:57 PM) Do we know how that happened? Was he extremely lucky to start the year or was there an injury or velocity drop? It was mainly luck. His peripherals were always garbage.
