If a guy likes a city and a team and wants to play for them, what the f*** difference does an extra 2-3 million a year make when you are already talking $10 million? Is that going to help his credit score all that much? Being extremely rich is the same as being dirt poor. In both situations, money has no real value. When dirt poor and you don't have any money, it has no real value. You never worry about money because you don't have any. Survival is more important. When extrememly rich the situation is the same, except that there is no value becuase you have so much you don't know what to do with it all. You never have any money worries, because you always have an endless supply. Make sense? No. 13 million is better than 10 million, even when you are rich. Why is it better? Think he'll actually spend the first $10 mil and need the extra $3 mil to get by?? The same reason 130 dollars is better than 100......

October 3, 200322 yr I guess being a musician who stands by his principals distorts my views. I just want to play, and if I get paid for playing, cool. I will never in a million years play something I don't want to play just for money. For me, being happy with where I am and what I am doing is more valuable than anything else. I am not a full time musician, nor will I ever be. But even in my work, I could make more money someplace else I know for a fact, but I make a good living where I am, I love the people I am around everyday, and I really love the company, and that is the most important thing to me. I like seeing who I see when I get to work, and I like being here.

October 3, 200322 yr I understand the importance of money, but that is not the driving factor here. Once you have all the money you can spend, having more doesn't make a difference. The driving factor is getting what you "deserve" or are "worth". That is the agent's job to deal with the numbers. The difference between $10 mil and $13 mil is not the same as if someone makes $50,000 and gets a job offer for $70,000. Some guys have been smart enough to know that extra $$ (when you already have all you need) don't matter. There are other things such as family, general happiness, etc. that are important as well. Tony Gwynn is a perfect example. It is refreshing when a player shows some good judgement and tells his agent what he wants. If he wants just a lot more money, I guess that is his prerogative, but it is the part of the game I hate.

October 3, 200322 yr Mark, please get off the Weaver kick. Weaver is the most overrated pitcher in the game. And he is not even rated that highly..... You know I'd take Weaver as long as the Yanks take on Koch or Konerko and still pay at least 60% of his salary. I'd use him as the 5th and then look for someone else in the middle and I love the Pettite idea. Damn he looked awesome yesterday. All I know is this...Kenny don't you ever think about giving 12-15 mill a year over 3 years to Bartolo a guy whose won 20 games once in his career.
October 3, 200322 yr Might not be a dream.... I know you mentioned in the past he would be intersted in coming here and its no secret Kenny has been interested in him in the past. I believe the Sox would be much better off going long term with Ponson (6 mill per with incentive sthat could push it to 7.5 or so per) and keeping the extra 5 mill and investing it elsewhere.

October 4, 200322 yr The only way Jeff Weaver finds his way in a White Sox uniform next year is if the Yanks pick up bout half of his salary. But I wouldn't write him off just yet either. Once he gets out of New York he'll be fine cos he won't be under any pressure anymores and I think Don Cooper could do wonders with him like he did with Loaiza this year. Remember he was a pretty good pitcher in Detroit for a while.
