October 3, 200322 yr Hmm I think he's just makin up excuses. NEW YORK -- Minnesota manager Ron Gardenhire wasn't a fan of "God Bless America" on Thursday night. With the score 1-all, Irish tenor Ronan Tynan sang a long, slow version of the song during the seventh-inning stretch in Game 2 of the AL playoff series between New York and Minnesota. The Yankees then scored three runs in the bottom half, going on to a 4-1 win. Gardenhire thought the long break in the middle of the inning may have affected his pitcher Brad Radke, who hit Nick Johnson with a pitch leading off the bottom half. "I thought sitting there in that long inning, 'God Bless America,' I never like those situations because it takes a long time, and the pitcher has got to sit there for an extra amount of time," Gardenhire said. "Then he goes out there and he ends up hitting the first hitter right in the butt. We have seen that happen to our pitchers before when you have long innings like that. It does seem to happen that way. That's just part of the game." "God Bless America" has been played during the seventh-inning stretch of Yankees' home games -- and at many other parks around the major leagues -- since the September 2001 terrorist attacks. Radke said that he did extra stretching during the long break, and he didn't think he was bothered by the lengthy pause.
October 3, 200322 yr What a cry baby. Wah it took too long Did I miss the part where the Yankees didn't have to sit through the same song STFU Gardenhire :fyou
October 3, 200322 yr Is there anything a Twink won't whine, b****, moan and cry about? My little violin is playin' for ya Gardenhire!
October 3, 200322 yr Is there anything a Twink won't whine, b****, moan and cry about? My little violin is playin' for ya Gardenhire! Yeah, I thought we had a bunch of crybabies. Damn the Twins kick our asses again
October 3, 200322 yr Be a man, and don't make excuses. Geez, what a f***. "God Bless America" really effected everyone so much. Asshole.
October 3, 200322 yr Wow, that is pathetic. I mean, isn't part of Baseball that there is no time clock? So, does he have the same complaint if his team happened to be out there for an extra long inning hitting everything the Yanks put up there? If his team actually had HIT, then his pitcher would have to sit for an extra long time also. Good thing they didn't hit I guess. :fthecubs
October 3, 200322 yr My question is, why do we still have to hear God Bless America at the park during the game anymore? Isn't it enough to honor the flag before the game? Just my take.
October 3, 200322 yr See, i would have said something similar to that, but in this day and age you might find yourself being run out of the country by the modern day McCarthy's.
October 3, 200322 yr Damn I wish we were b****ing about it. You don't think that Georgie suggsted an extra long version to ice the other pitcher do you? That wouldn't be nice.
October 3, 200322 yr I understand his point because a delay like that takes a pitcher out of his routine. But then again, so would have an inning where the Twins scored 5-6 runs and batted around. I doubt he would have been complaining then.
October 3, 200322 yr as if they havent been sitting through that song all season long anyhow...it should already be part of the routine........shouldnt it????
October 3, 200322 yr Ever see Mystery, Alaska? That was great in there when Little Richard took forever to sing the National Anthem.

I doubt he would have been complaining then. Thats how I saw it. Pitcher has to deal with it if his team scores runs or has a long inning and they'll have to deal with that too. Gardenhire was stupid for taking Radke out. I thought he hooked him too early right when he pulled him. He hits one guy...other then that he was on cruise control.
October 4, 200322 yr Nice one Ron. Next thing you know they'll be b****ing that the flag distracts their hitters.
October 4, 200322 yr Damn. The Twins sound like Cub fans. Excuses, always excuses. Never "We suck." or "We got beat".
October 4, 200322 yr I understand that if the Twins are losing after the top of the seventh tonight, they're gonna play "Hey Jude."
October 4, 200322 yr What a b****, that Gardenhire. Radke himself said it didnt bother him. Gardenhire belongs in Minnesota, hes such a little crybaby...
