Is it time to get excited about Laz Rivera yet?

Featured Replies

Posting an .880 OPS in A+. He is 23, so possibly a little older than the competition. Do we get excited yet? Will Anderson's days at SS be numbered?

I am intrigued but there is a long way to go from high A to MLB.  I certainly would rather guys perform well than not!

I’d like to see him go to AFL.

Worth keeping an eye on but won't get excited just yet. He'll be 24 in September so I'd prefer to wait and see what he can do in Birmingham when he gets there next season.

I worry about his BB rate a bit.  The age thing would be less of a concern if he wasn’t walking only 2% of the time.

I was at the game last night and he hit a HR that just cleared the fence in left center. He has a long way to go but definitely should get to AA the end of the year or beginning of next. He has mendick above him in AA who is having an OK year. Jose Rondon in AAA

I wonder if next year, with the prep time, if we will see Madrigal at short somewhere.  Doubt they abandon it after just a couple games.

I don't really know what to make of Rivera yet. It's likely a utility profile, and he is old for his level turning 24 in September. Hard to argue with his performance so far though.

He should likely find himself in AA early 2019, and be on the mlb horizon by end of 2019/early 2020.

Sox had "Jungle" Jim Rivera on the 1959 pennant winning team . Maybe Laz needs a cool nickname. like Lucky Laz Rivera or Jazzy Laz Rivera . Submit yours :P
